It’s truly amazing when you have such a remarkable band like journey that has the most downloaded song on the internet, over 1 billion downloads actually.
They had no in-ear monitoring systems back in '82. That's a product of the late 80's- early 90's. He just had floor monitors. And the early in-ear stuff was just horrible. Took about 15 years to get to the point where it was passable.
You are correct sir. I played in bar bands in the 70s and 80s and when I would go to big arenas to see headliners, I was always amazed that they could hear anything out of the floor monitors, even with PA's that cost 1/2 million bucks! (BTW, the best by far for sound was Frank Zappa and the Mothers)
YES. you know the only rock singer left is COREY GLOVER from Living Colour and his new band "SONIC UNIVERSE"... That band is NUTS. sounds like Killswitch Engage, Slipknot and Gospel Music all at once, just on loads of CRACK hahaha
I’m a chronic depressive, genetic endogenous variety, you’re bang on, this song rocks me right out of my downs,God bless loud rockin tunes, they’re saving my life every day...
This is a simple sounding song however it is quite complex. However the drums are a beast to play. Really difficult to get it right. I'm not a drummer but I have seen drummers trying to play this song and fail a few times.
I saw them play back-to-back nights in Salt Lake City I think it was in 1980. Rush was the warm-up band. I was so high on hashish! Got laid it was great.
80s culture will never die...I'll make sure of that, I mean I was born in the 2000s but still I listen to this on a daily don't get me started with queen, bon jovi, def Leppard. That's the real stuff.... I mean usually my peers say I'm a old man stuck in a young boys body😅😅😅😅
First plan on the new world order Georgia Guidestones is for 93% of all people to be disappeared. John 1:5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Jesus said the second most important commandment is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. The first is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Without Christianity, expect massive failure for your nation.
I had the opportunity to chat with Steve Perry sometime back , never knew he was so down to earth and humble. It was quite an experience chatting with someone like him. Here is a direct link to reach him to send appreciation for his beautiful works 🎶❤ m.me/chatwithsteveperry
Arnel was a perfect replacement. Sounds very much like Steve. Almost. Nobody beats Steve. I came to Journey late in life; but, have big appreciation for talent and truth and passion. And, BTW, who can fill a pair of jeans like Steve? Sorry, it had to go there. I'm old, not dead.
His voice and Neal Schon's guitar work. I always thought Neal added something special to this band. But we all know Steve is the main man. One of the best voice talents of all time. Crazy that he was having a hard time making it until he joined Journey in his late 20s.
This is probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen. They don't just sound as good as the recording, they surpass it! Everyone is at his best!
I've heard George Clinton and Gary Shider and Earth, Wind, and Fire live and they sound as good or better than their recordings. These are artists that can flat out sing and perform!
The Escape record was recorded in 1981, there weren't too many studio gadgets at the time. They had the basics: reverb, flange, chorus and the most complicated piece of equipment at the time was the Eventide 910. You had the and a 24 track tape recorder and that was it. The sound engineer hit the record button and the band played. You got what you got. It wasn't until the mid/late1980's and the semiconductor/chips that things really started to change. More and more gadgets were invented, and you could cover up all the fuck ups shitty musicians made.
He said in an interview once he's unable to sing like this without the big stadium audience Journey had, and they sold out to 90K people almost every night, he was 28 when he started with Journey. He sang like that because of the audience, and most Musicians are channeling through their voice too.
Yes it happen, you just need to look for the great vocalists instead of the popular ones, who are all pretty much weak vocalists except some rare exceptions
As a professional drummer and 40 year old male, this is my favorite F band of all time. And Steve Perry has the greatest voice in music history across ALL genres. I just wish I was alive to see Perry live in his prime.
I’m with you, wishing I was born 20 years earlier just to have been able to see them live. Journey was great back then, and Steve’s voice was so powerful and magical

It’s truly amazing when you have such a remarkable band like journey that has the most downloaded song on the internet, over 1 billion downloads actually.
Nothing better than 80’s rock while being under quarantine

I need a list...A very long list(of 80's songs)
70s ROCK IS JUST AS GOOD .. Just saying ,,
Good lord I don't even think he uses any kind of in ear monitor or anything. He's just totally pitch perfect naturally. What an amazing singer
They had no in-ear monitoring systems back in '82. That's a product of the late 80's- early 90's. He just had floor monitors. And the early in-ear stuff was just horrible. Took about 15 years to get to the point where it was passable.
Jacob Dexter one of the best tenors and best vocalists ever
You are correct sir. I played in bar bands in the 70s and 80s and when I would go to big arenas to see headliners, I was always amazed that they could hear anything out of the floor monitors, even with PA's that cost 1/2 million bucks! (BTW, the best by far for sound was Frank Zappa and the Mothers)
Jacob Dexter he was originally hired by the band to give them voice lessons... The rest is history as they say.
Barney Barnes he does not need anything at all just naturally brilliant
No pyrotechnics, auto tune, just a live band and pure talent 👌
A little pyrotechnics never hurt anyone. 🤔…. Except maybe a couple people

IMO the best ever and I'm not a big Journey fan
It's crazy how good he sounds live.. What a singer.
hes the best singer ive ever heard. Personal opinion
YES. you know the only rock singer left is COREY GLOVER from Living Colour and his new band "SONIC UNIVERSE"... That band is NUTS. sounds like Killswitch Engage, Slipknot and Gospel Music all at once, just on loads of CRACK hahaha

One of the best vocals ever. Lucky to have grown up during the 80’s. But even luckier to still be here and appreciate his talent.
Don't know how I would have survived high school without them. No one sings like Steve.
People could actually sing back then.

I read your 2nd sentence in context to the 1st one and then I laughed my ass off. 😅

Richard Gooddall did a fancy job on this song
Wow it's amazing how much better singers were live back then, then they are now.
Depends who you listen too lol
Josh Palmer no this era has better singers because of how easy it is to learn how to do something on the internet
Right!
Ever seen Travis Scott in concert? Easily more hype than this.
Gavin Harris lmao i hope you are joking he can’t even blabber...i mean “rap” on key

The only problem of this song is that it's impossible to do a cover that outperform the original in any way. Steve Perry's voice is one in a billion.

Keith Carmichael

As good as the original is, I will never listen to it over this cover by Steel Panther

Nah, they're falsetto prophets.

unfucking real how good this is, this is a bear of a song to sing live. people have no idea.
perry is a fuckin beast
Yeah there were good singers then. Now everyone uses autotune
This is a simple sounding song however it is quite complex. However the drums are a beast to play. Really difficult to get it right. I'm not a drummer but I have seen drummers trying to play this song and fail a few times.

How did he literally sound like the album 😭😭😭 this man is perfection m. Seeing the new guy in Feb. He is AMAZING ❤ i cant wait.
"This is probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen"
Especially the singer's shirt....it's just mesmerizing....
Hard to surpass this group of natural talent.. what a performance and it was in the early 1980s .. Pure Rock History
Performing live as your everyday walk. Epic beyond proportions

He said in an interview once he's unable to sing like this without the big stadium audience Journey had, and they sold out to 90K people almost every night, he was 28 when he started with Journey. He sang like that because of the audience, and most Musicians are channeling through their voice too.
