Is it just me, or is it not possible to add materials/textures to these new objects? Because I can't. At least, not via the New Material > Base Color > Image Texture > Open File route. I'm trying to make a gear with a brushed metal finish, to no avail whatsoever.

Well...it looks like I am going to have to buckle down, and learn how to use blender. I have a dream of creating a comic book, and I'm not much of an artist. I've spent a ton of money on Daz3d items, and I need to stop buying and just learn to create what I need. Love the channel. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Thanks very much for this - lots to explore here. There is also a built in addon called Mesh: Snap_Utilities_Line which allows you to draw lines in Edit mode to create shapes and also to divide faces etc - I think it is easier than using the Single Vert option. I would be interested to know what you think.
Somehow, shape presets missing for Extra Objects addon in Blender 4.2. There are no presets showing for these math function generators as well as for Round Cube object provided by this addon. In earlier versions the presets were available by default. Don't know what's wrong with Blender 4.2.
Thanks so much for all your helpful tutorials. I have one question. After creating a SuperToroid When I try to edit it later in edit mode I doesn't show up at all
I use sketchup but would like to move to blender but for the ancient building I am modeling , I need realistic solar shadows by date and time. This is used to display shadows from and sunbeams inside the building. Is there a plug-in for this? Really like your very clear tutorials. Thanks
This I don't know - historically this doesn't really seem to be an application that Blender is built for, but I also haven't looked into this particular application
is there a way to generate a proper triangle mesh for 2d animation? the alt+f function for enclosed vertexes/vertices generates a pretty horrible mesh so that even if you subdivide the generated mesh, it's still really bad and makes the images deform really horribly even with a painstakingly edited weight painting. i've tried the coa tools add-on but it hasn't been updated as of now and it's quite buggy with blender 2.83. or would you rather suggest lattice rigging for 2d animation?
@@TheCGEssentials it doesn't produce the desired results since all it does is project 2d patterns onto a 3D surface, and creates a lot of distortion. It's possible in Rhinoceros with the Grasshopper plugin, but its terrible at exporting curved meshes

I personally think yes, it's good. There's value in learning the basics as well, but I don't think using add-on's that make life easier is a bad thing for beginners. However, don't use them as a shortcut to avoid learning how Blender works
Probably because there would be a ton of tabs and other "stuff" running if they did that, which would make everything really complicated. That said, there is a lot of stuff sitting in a default Blender installation that a lot of people don't know about - thanks!
Help! Whenever I add a mesh in object mode, blender automatically switches into edit mode. This causes errors when editing the newly created meshes in the panel. Switching back into object mode makes the panel disappear though, of course. Can I somehow turn off the auto-switch after creating a mesh? Thank you! (I am on blender 2.83)
@@TheCGEssentials It might have very well been an unintentional shortcut, but I wasn´t able to turn it off again no matter what. Simply restarting blender didn´t do the trick either. I since updated blender to the latest version, and alas, the problem was gone. Still, weird. But thank you for the reply anyhow!
