  • Rearch leaf springs how to do it, cheap and easy. Does you truck sag? Is the back of your truck considerably lower than the front? Does your truck look like a dog about to take a doo doo? It seems like now's a great time to consider re-arch leaf springs on your truck before people start laughing at you non stop. rearching your own leaf springs is super easy and I had no idea until I watched a video by zip ties and byass pliers. Without that video I would not have the courage to fix rear squat on my truck. There's also a truck squat song and I'm impressed but that's not what this video is about! truck squat when towing trailer can be easily repaired like this if you got the cheap simple tools to get it done. There's other videos by squat truck samroc and others but nothing like this! Leaf spring re-arching leaf springs is too simple not to do. Budget lift kit all up in here as well as an all spring lift. I probably lifted my truck 4 inches just saying. leaf spring sag is one of the biggest culprits of squating trucks and we gotta start fixing that! Leaf spring rearching is much easier than you may think! probably the best diy lift kit or diy anything youll ever do to your truck!

    Now that you have lift springs you can improve ride by moving shackle position to a straight up and down angle this will allow your effective spring rate to soften as it goes over bumps, not good for stock springs but great for arched springs 👍

    Hey man great video & thanks for putting this up.. do you think a 10 ton press will still do the job? I got a '63 Galaxie with flat springs & it'll cost $400 to get the re-arched by a local firm, but I can pick up a 10 shop press for $100 & that'll come in handy for other stuff around the garage

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I'm pretty sure you should be ok as long as you dont try to press the whole pack together at once. You can try it all at once but if it cant do it then one by one should be ok

    • @batch_life

      @@NightWrencher Cool, yea was gonna split the pack & start with the top leaf first & work my way down.. I may end up adding a leaf as well just to stiffen it up. I'd imagine it'll be trial & error a little bit to get it close to factory spec as that's what I'm aiming for to give me more clearance on those 295's I'm trying to fit under the guards. Thanks again from down here in NZ

    How did bake your so the spring steel will hold arch.

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its pressed cold so youre basically just indroducing a bunch of little bends into the steel to form the arch instead of heating it and giving it a new shape. It been several months and a few thousand miles and my springs havnt sagged at all so it may not be very scientific or proper, but it works 👍

  • @HealthSupercharger
    @HealthSupercharger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have almost 10 year old leaf springs which flattened out almost level with my overload springs because i carry a heavy canopy, plus ladders on top and lots of gear in my truck. Do flattened springs loose strength and become weak and useless or are they worth re bending????

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spring steel can be bent several times before they get damaged. I recommend rearching your current springs and adding another 2 to each side to help with the initial load as well as the overload springs.

    • @HealthSupercharger
      @HealthSupercharger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NightWrencher Ok great, I just bought a used set of leaf springs with low miles and I will go to a spring shot so they can add a leaf or two as you say to each side. Is 2 more leafs not going to be way too stiff suspension? Going from 3+1 overload to 5+1 overload is that going to make it 66% more stiff? My mid size pickup has a 300lb commercial canopy plus 500lb of gear in the back, so easily 800lbs without even passengers and driver another 500 lbs. So total 1300 lbs, manufacturer load limit is 950. 1 leaf extra is not enough??

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do 1 leaf first and see how it goes. Depending on the type of leaf, 1 might be enough. It will be a little stiffer

    Only problem with this is arches won't last I'd suggest welding a T shaped adapter with a pipe that will slip over the press head make sure it's strong and just use the gap in the stock I beam brace on the press and arch each side of the leafs from the quarter Mark in to the middle and out to the outside then do the other side of the leaf in the same pattern that way the arches are stiffer and starting in the middle of the arch and not the middle of the leaf will let you see where you need to bend to keep them in spec

      @@NightWrencher im wondering If I do that the, the height of the rear portion will give too much height.Whaf do you think if I put some longer shocks, the ride will not become stiffer?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gain is usually the thickness of the axle tube so if its a 3 inch axle tube, you'll gain 3 inches. Longer shocks wont make your ride stiffer if you stick to the same model you have now. You can undo your spring pack and just rearch the top spring so see how much height you need then rearch the following ones depending on how stiff you want the ride

    Why not put them side by side and choose a measurement of the gap you want to use and make lines on each leaf across them all where you will bend and write down the number of pumps if you want so you don’t forget and then do the bends on those lines, w the same number of pumps ..if that makes sense that way they all turnout the same w the flat spots and just all turnout even..
