What I find funny is that a lot of places in the US would be better suited to having no speed limit than the autobahn, considering how many roads we have that are dead straight and completely empty.
Montana used to have a "reasonable and prudent" limit on some of it's Interstate freeways. In other words, you drive pretty much as fast as you wanted. But that got dropped quite a number of years ago. One problem is, what "you" thought was reasonable and prudent might not be inline with what the local "cop" thought was reasonable and prudent for the prevailing conditions and guess who's going to get preferential treatment in a court of law! I did read one article where a guy driving a Porsche well into triple digits was cited by the local police. Prevailing conditions were sunny, dry, and calm wind. The guy showed up in court with documentation showing multiple performance driving certificates and proving he was not your average driver. He won the appeal but I'd bet that didn't happen very often!
Knock 'em dead, Tom! You will be missed. Both of my favorite pieces from you have included hooning a Porsche on the Nurburgring, which has made me want to immediately get in my car and drive hard even though it lacks that badge. Paul and Todd, I love how professional, objective and informative you guys are, but I'd love to see you get as excited behind the wheel as Tom does.
Ach ja..und wie hier schon einen schrieb: Schau, dass du der Video Abteilung dort hin und wieder unter die Arme greifen darfst. Die haben es definitiv nötig;-)..
Did my first autobahn run in 2014 in the exact same car as in the video , on the A1 managed to get it up to 276kmph . Biggest thrill of my life getting to live out my childhood dream and in my dream car . Love Germany , respect.
Congrats on the new job, but sorry to see you go! You're definitely in my top 5 youtube reviewers... now just get that magazine to let you make youtube videos for them in english...
Huge congrats, and well deserved! Gonna the Soprano sounding reviews. The Pug GTI review was chock full of hot hatch enthusiasm, would like try that car if I get the chance.
people don't gonna assume that you gonna do 230...? Once I was on the Autobahn doing 170-180 on the right lane (3lanes) and I was by far the slowest person, because everybody was overtaking me even on the right lane :D But you are completely right: If you don't know how the Autobahn works, be more careful !
@5:05, Auto-Bug-Bahn! Looks like you are limited on the autobahn not by the speed limit, but by the buildup of bugs on the windshield :-) Congratulations on your new gig, the production quality of your videos is second to none! P.S. I love your brooklyn english accent!
There are some local & state speedways that are connected to the Autobahn with varying speed limits, but there is no general speed limit for the Autobahn. Unless you drive a truck, haul a trailer, pass a construction site or crash site you may drive as fast as you like.
Well, Tom, I'm bummed! I'm a relatively new subscriber to your video feed. I've really enjoyed your presentations and the enthusiasm you show. Being the owner of a 2016 Mustang GT convertible, I particularly enjoyed your video on the Mustang GT fastback and the autobahn runs you showed in that vid. I would "love" to be able to do a top speed run in my car (probably just once!) so that I can see what it'll really do but there's no place here in the States I can do that that I know of. Anyway, it sounds like you've got a wonderful opportunity with your new job. I wish you all the best in that endeavor! Drive safe!
Can’t Thomas have the English translation, Love his commentary and will be missed. I Love this show it’s like the Pink Floyd of Car People. David Gilmour is my favorite. Thank You All!!
Here in the US.. It's ignorant to poke in the left lane, but so many people are inconsiderate and do it anyways. On the unrestricted part of the Autobahn?, it goes beyond ignorance and people should be hauled in for doing it. I dont squat in the left lane period. If I'm the left lane, I'm either keeping flow or or going faster than the flow. If you're faster than me? I'll get out of your way.
Congrats Thomas!!! It was a great pleasure to watch your videos, believe me that you were one of my favorite cars guy on the internet. Hope to see your new videos soon, in here or anywhere else. Take care and wish you the best!!!
Very good! I have a run of the mill 2.7 Cayman (08) 6 speed. It has sports chrono and PASM etc - and to be honest it is at its best in soft damper mode without the sports chrono - throttle/damper/steering/exhaust sound relationship best then. Good luck Tom!
I read auto Motor und Sport all the time it helps with my German and damn they seem to just have so much more insider content than the American magazine/websites
Always great to see a new video from Thomas; shame he's going to be leaving. All I could see though throughout the whole video was that windshield though - holy cow is that dirty! 😛
I’d love to compare Germany’s crash statistics to those of the average US highway. I almost guarantee the number of incidents isn’t higher. Just another excuse to take out money in addition to taxes as Americans.
winglessang31 you can’t just look at things in isolation. You should include obviously related things such as drivers’ education and licensing requirements. They are a joke in the US. As a European now living in the States, I can honestly tell you most people here can’t drive and yet they are properly licensed and in good standing.
You guys know how rare this car is in Germany , Point: Porsche sells over 80% of their cars in the States. I live in Germany and Austria , A big motor in most cars is 150 PS most are less . You can look at German sales sights VW ,Seat ,Volvo , Ford , so and you will see what I am talking about .
Speed limit on country roads 100 kph. no signs but that is the limit. ? Bugs, beautiful area of the World, lots of rain and green grass = lots of bugs. Porsche in USA: 0 to 35 , terrible life. No reason to get a super car in USA. European Delivery seems best option: June 15, 2017 , 718 Boxster S, pdk: 242 laps on Ring no Crash.
EverydayDriver cheers, I asked mid-video.. just as an aside I'm fairly sure the reason you get so many podcast hits from Dublin is that the Irish mobile data network is fairly 'insular', my GPS location on apps is usually Dublin despite living at the other end of the country.
Your obvious road rage toward the Mercedes, means you shouldn't be giving your opinion out upon the internet. As much as I like appreciate the EverydayDriver's opinion of my car (FR-S), I'm ashamed that you are employed.

It is not only about roads. It is about people.
voice of reason Germany is great to modify cars. Even NOS is somehow streetlegal.
TheJacobShapiro considering how many of you overtake on the right or drink coffee while driving, no speedlimit in the US would be quite deadly.
Christoph S. You are forced to pass on the right with all the idiots that camp in the left and middle lanes.
Holy crap, I've never seen a windshield that badly bombarded by bug guts.
This high speeds cause all the bugs to smash into the window, instead of flying over it because of the aerodynamics.
You must have not ever lived in the south during LOVEBUG season
😂
Congratulations to Thomas. He's a great correspondent: very, very entertaining, and a great driver to boot. I'll miss his videos here.

"Anyone can [drive fast] in a straight line", unless you're Richard Hammond.
Another great review, thanks for your content over the last couple of years Tom!
Tom- Congrats on your new opportunity! Your perspective (and accent) will be missed.
I wonder if Germans think he has an odd accent when speaking German.
we don't
Just go to Jersey if you miss his accent
Will miss him. Loved his videos.
What happened to him...🤔🤔🤔
“Old people in Benzos blocking you.”
This line relates to every enthusiast...in every country...in every city...on every road! I feel you pain!
Gives me much satisfaction hearing that motor under load.

We love you Tom. Congratulations. We will definitely miss your Sopranos accent.
Gonna miss German Seinfeld. Wish him the best of luck.
Congrats on the new job, but sorry to see you go! You're definitely in my top 5 youtube reviewers... now just get that magazine to let you make youtube videos for them in english...
Congratulations Tom!
This was the first I heard Tom is departing Everyday Driver...OMG am I bummed! The piece he did on the Audi RS6... A masterpiece!!
Huge congrats, and well deserved! Gonna the Soprano sounding reviews. The Pug GTI review was chock full of hot hatch enthusiasm, would like try that car if I get the chance.

I love how it looks like the video is in fast forward...but its real time because your doing 158 MPH.

Congrats Tom - will definitely miss your videos. Good luck with your next chapter.
Damn it. So sad for the departure. But happy for you! Love this channel.
I loved the autobahn pieces with realistic 0-200 and top speed runs. You can do that still
Please say this is an early April fool's joke??? Thomas is leaving 😲. I'm happy for him totally 👍 I'm kinda bummed right now... Need a moment 😥
I recommend you use DeepL for translation instead of Google Translate, it works really well for German English.

Hey, it's the guy with 50 merged accents!
I read auto Motor und Sport all the time it helps with my German and damn they seem to just have so much more insider content than the American magazine/websites
230 km/h in the first minute. OK.
Very bittersweet to see you go Tom, but like everyone said, congratulations on the amazing opportunity!
All the best Tom! Hope you would start a vlog about your work.
Always great to see a new video from Thomas; shame he's going to be leaving.

Deine Meinung zum Sound ?
Do we know where Tom is going yet?
It's discussed in detail at the end of the video. Thanks for watching!
EverydayDriver cheers, I asked mid-video.. just as an aside I'm fairly sure the reason you get so many podcast hits from Dublin is that the Irish mobile data network is fairly 'insular', my GPS location on apps is usually Dublin despite living at the other end of the country.
Good to know... thanks for listening to the Podcast!
Good luck tom :-)
US you will be happy 100mph
Autobahn is freedom
Part of the fun is not getting caught in the usa ;)
It's called Google Chrome browser for real translations but ya still not better than the Mozilla Firefox better have em
If u really wanna go 200 for hours go on the autobahn after 8pm dude
Big loss for the channel. Hope you find someone else to do the European test drives. Best of luck to Tom on his new endeavour. :)
just a heads up, it is KM/H, not KPH
Clean your windscreen dude.
Congratulations btw
Italy has unlimited sections on the autostrade dude
Your obvious road rage toward the Mercedes, means you shouldn't be giving your opinion out upon the internet. As much as I like appreciate the EverydayDriver's opinion of my car (FR-S), I'm ashamed that you are employed.
Get out of the fast lane if you're not quick enough
bill burr cousin
这老哥的口音简直了。
I'll take my second amendment rights over an Autobahn everyday.
I always found him kind of annoying, not sure what it is. Probably his accent.
