- The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey Racing has a long name. But the story is quite short and simple: it’s a tuned GT2 RS by Manthey Racing, and it’s the fastest road-legal car to lap the Nürburgring. Now, it’s Chris’s turn. Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: bit.ly/Subscrib...

Can't watch enough of Chris Harris , he is the premier car journo imho. Neil's filming is first class as always.
I agree but for daily drives! for professional racing and driving he is the best! each journalist is different
@@Namabasho What are you saying?
He's the best for daily drives or for professional racing and driving?
The problem it's that is filmed in a different frame rate than it's exported at in post, so every single Chris Harris video has a horrible stutter on it. I don't know how no one else mentions this, let alone anyone fix it. Can't wait for them to make the change.
Watching Chris over the years is like watching the development of performance cars, they just get better and better. He’s making petrol heads go back to top gear, you can trust his journalism and only admire with envy his ability in driving. It excites me to watch him and a pleasure to listen. Real cars by a real person. Thanks.
Well said feel the same
He’s the only guy I could stand after Jeremy’s incident
Correct! Top Gear should've been Chris from the start.
Porsche is, in my mind, the best sports car manufacturer period. Everything they make is super reliable, practical and capable.
Not just your mind. In the mind of every driving enthusiast.
I've always heard that Porsches were reliable. My question is up to how many miles? I'm asking because I never see any used GT variance with more than 20 to 30 thousand miles.
@Jason Mullings I've been a trucker for 11 years this month. I've never seen one either but I would like to see some 911 GT variants with miles similar to Corvettes in general. Not sure why not.
@Jason Mullings thats because their owners can always afford the tow.
@@2ndAveScents So how can we say that they're reliable beyond 30k miles when there's not much proof (unlike Vettes)?!
I’m 71 years old, and the pinnacle of my “car life” was when I had a 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet and a 2004 Porsche Carrera 4S in my garage at the same time - 40 years apart, both works of art. I’d like to drive what I think is the most beautiful Porsche - the 904 GTS (a model of which sits on my desk), but the price is beyond my reach. I had a lot of fun with these beautiful machines!
William you lucky bastard!!
William, what do you currently drive?
@@theprepperrevelator Audi A3 E-tron. Fun drive, but not a Porsche.
@@WilliamValenti still a neat car. Enjoy.
Dude theres a 1960 356b in my garage that my great grandparents would rally
Watching Chris Harris is seeing a driving legend develop in real time. Under different circumstances, the man could’ve been a factory driver; kind of glad he has gone the route he has, because his videos are the BEST driving enthusiast films on the internet.
You can see the pure love of cars and driving.there's no faking enthusiasm like that
Well said. Chris Harris is a rare treat ‐ especially in a world so completely and sickly dominated by obnoxious hubris conflated with plain ole simple ignorance. Thus humility, humor, and honesty win the day again.
Chris' lap time was only about a second off of the pros. Good on ya mate. You're a fantastic pilot!
In a car he hasn't really driven before. Guy who broke the record knows the car inside out.
@@VirusTornado that alone can be factored to half a second.
Well I mean he is a GT3 driver and races in the Blancpain GT Series.
@@madhunittor also factor in the squirrelly bit @ 6:30 and that's probably another half second at least
Chris is a pro racing driver
Chris Harris is the last great automotive journalist of the old guard. A great intersection of where articulation meets skill, the world needs more of him
Nothing worse than a good racer who can't talk on camera and is cringy, or bad driver talking about how a car handles.
Can't forget Henry. He's a fantastic journalist and a dab hand behind a steering wheel!
Henry Catchpole, Jethro Bovingdon, Steve Sutcliffe, Harry Metcalfe...Chris is very good, but so are these guys. Stop branding people.
My personal favorite is Jason Cammisa. He’s got a really good knowledge of automotive engineering, and he articulates his opinions so well. He’s the best at what he does.
I like James May
If I’m being honest, Top Gear only needs Chris Harris. Go ahead and keep Matt LeBlanc, he’s cool too.
Matt LeBlanc already left, he confirmed that the upcoming season will be the last one with him in it.
But is it still top gear if chriss Harris makes 80% of good things there? Ot could be just Chris Harris drives :/
Add a driver like Tanner Foust and have some heated battles. None of the stupid stuff.
Chris had his own show before and he knows what works.
I was number 100
I’m the orignal owner of a 993 C2S, 997.2 GT3 and 991.1 GT3 RS. I take the GT3 and RS to the track - drive in the morning, track it all day, then drive home. They are remarkable cars on the track and even more remarkable afterward when you drive home comfortable with the A/C and radio on. Porsche owners take great pride in being able to do that and in putting miles on the car. What I’ve found in going to cars & coffee events is that Porsche owners always lament how few miles they get to drive due to family and work obligations while other high end car owners (Ferrari) brag about how few miles they have on their cars. There really is no comparison, for performance, longevity and quality, Porsche is the best.
I come back to this video once in a while, to appreciate how well Chris describes the driving experience of this particular car. The video editing is also mind blowingly exquisite
Chris Harris has saved Top Gear by making it his own and just being authentic. His passion is real, he's great at presenting and he's a proper driver.
😂😂10:52 Talk us through this amazing tire...!
Guy, basically : Screw the tire! It was my mods that worked all the magic! Lol 🔥🔥
loooool not even a milisecond spent on talking about it I love it
But he’s right. The cup R is more aggressive than the cup 2 but Pirelli has been making the trofeo R for years now and now they are just pretty much level. The normal Porsche cup 2 version is just a more conservative version with more wet handling capabilities and less wear
He’s the driver not a Manthey engineer.
@@Paganizondaf650 He's right regardless of what the tyre's performance is in relation to another tyre because the tyre doesn't change with the MR package. The regular GT2 RS record was set with the same tyre.
Tires made a huge difference!
The fact the Chris can go head to head with Porsche's test driver is beyond insane. A car journalist that can talk the talk and walk the walk. Put him in charge of Top Gear as a presenter and you have yourselves a winning formula.
yes top gear is fukin crazy to not havew Chris, i know they didnt treat him quite good with other presenters but he is the star. he can make top gear on is own without anyone not even bbc, its a shame he doesnt have the production behind him
Harris has had an extensive racing career, so he's not "just a car journalist".
So he's within a second of the track record set by the guy the car was tuned for, and who's spent countless hours going over telemetry with engineers? 🔥🔥🔥
A second is an enormous gap
@@mlgpsypher3264 At that level, I'd take it. Even your best sim racer would be a few seconds off Chris so let's not take credit away from him.
Haha a second is Huuuuge. Chris Harris is very good though.
@@hungrymynd5673 Speaking about second difference in a race, sure. Speaking about a guy that sits for 1st time in a car that's set up for someone else and does a run just a second shy of the record? That's definitely saying a lot about the skills of CH.
@@hungrymynd5673 1 second of 1:49 in a race is alot, but on a lap just jumping in, it's very impresive. Saying 1 sec is huge between a reporting journalist and a factory test driver, is idiotic.
Just awesome no drama no non-sense journalism. It was all about pushing a car that was built to be pushed around a track. Last thing we need is a super car drifting in corners but apparently most other journalists don't understand.
The Porsche GT2 RS is much like Chris Harris. The Porsche GT2 RS MR is much like Chris Harris with a beard.

So that's the secret.
Faster than a P1, and it uses MacPherson struts like any normal car. It’s not even an extremely sophisticated car, which says a lot about what Porsche’s capable of.
It's a Porsche GT2 RS with more fine tuning. If i could spent millions of euros in cars then this would be 1 of the cars and the normal GT2 RS.

Just when you think a car can’t get better. It does. That Porsche looked so smooth on the track.
This is what top gear should always be, new car reviews and exploration of the pinnacle of motorsport, technology, design and culture. Just a shame that it'll never be on the tv's program.

I agree. Instead of trying to replicate the magic of the original trio - with all the jokes and ridiculous bets - they should just change the show and make it about cars once again. Chris Harris is a great host and driver. He's not afraid to push the cars hard and actually give an honest opinion.
@@TheBobes finally someone have with me the same opinion

@Ayoub Trabelsi
I’m with y’all too. 👍
You know it's a proper machine when even Chris Harris can't speak while driving it hard.
The car probably could be even lighter & faster if they will replace the heavy stock textile fabric+leather passenger seat with much lighter carbon bucket just like the driver one .. ;0)
Pop Laurentiu the full bucket seat is probably heavier than the stock one. Its already fully carbon except for the leather and way smaller

Top Gear died with the trio leaving for me, but Chris Harris resurrected it, and it's all about the cars which I love more than The Grand Tour

I’ve watched Chris on TH-cam since he took a mk1 focus rs down a B class road in wales and demonstrated left foot braking. He has always been a true driver and top lad that just has enthusiasm and honesty for driving and the vehicles including bikes.
love the fact there is a proper onboard hot lap in this vid. thanks!
This guy is the best journalist for Top Gear hands down not mention he can drive
Chris, helper springs are effectively zero spring rate once the car is on the ground. They're used to keep the short main springs from misaligning at full suspension droop, where they would otherwise be uncompressed and free to move laterally. You must be thinking of tender springs, which are given a bit more rate.
What an absolutely beast of a Porsche. Love everything about it. Bravo Chris as well for such a good video as well. Fantastic editing. 10/10 video
yeah Porsche never get´s old...:-)
Just watch the lap on the "Ring" it's breathtaking just by watching it. Can't even imagine how it is inside the car. Great interview and show. One of my favs.
I honestly and quite simply just loved this video. You do not wish to skip a single second of it. Credit must also be given to Neil Carey who has been instrumental in making Chris achieve this extremely lovely level of visual journalism. The perfect team, these two make! Well well done, I'll never stop watching you wherever you go.
This is the best of Top Gear, and it's not even shown on Top Gear.
This is how you should review a car like this, awesome job Chris, no crap just going fullout. I like the rear of the 918 but the front should be like this 911 GT2 RS MR, that would make that car the best looking Porsche ever.
That thing is mental! Mind blowing it lapped quicker than a 918 Spyder, LaFerrari, and P1. Just staggering!
About 8 years in difference
Honestly, for my money, Chris Harris is the best in the biz. I am a hard core old school Top Gear guy and still love those guys, so this means a lot from me. Chris is just soo good and no one is close. Bravo.
After watching Harris, I feel like I know the car. I’ve been lucky to drive a few of the cars he’s reviewed (not on the track except once) and he’s spot on, although he can extract far more from the car than I’ll ever dream. A true auto journalist for true car people.
OK so here goes my personal Dream Team for Top Gear:

Another amazing review from Chris Harris....Really enjoyed that
The level of technical knowledge that C. Harris has is absolutely mind-blowing. I think he's by far the best car reviewer on the planet right know. He has a professional driver's level of knowledge and also drives like a pro. I believe no other car reviewer in the world can set a lap time faster than Chris Harris and produce such an outstanding material for a car review like this. Not even Clarkson.
Everything so good from the videography, Manthey upgrades to two driver breaking the track lap like that.
Never thought I fall in love again until I saw this car.
I like the fact that they've started to return to a more factual, subject-driven programm like it was with Tiff Niedell and younger Jeremy in the '70s & '80s.
If they were to keep trying to do ludicrous challenges and extraordinary things they would just end up being compared to the Hammond, May, Clarkson era, and they couldn't possibly hold a candle to that.
This way they're more authentic, fill their own niche and stay dignified by doing something original and not copying something that worked in past.
The original trio caught lightning in a bottle, and their chemistry still works wonderfully on the Grand Tour, so it's nice that the Top Gear programm starts to recognize this, doesn't try so hard anymore and knows what it is: a car programm.
This way they might be able to step out of the shadow of the original trio and become their own. Authenticity, especially in these times of comeback tours, reboots and sequels is warmly welcome and appreciated. Let's hope they realize this and keep going in a more thoughtful manner.
Why isnt Top Gear unscripted, this is so much more fun and interesting to watch then any other TV episode.
Tv Shows are like Dinosaurs. They dont realize the Asteroid is coming.

This is so good, I just watched it for the third time. I love Chris Harris.
Pretty amazing these road cars are getting close to GT3 lap times. The Huracan GT3 I believe has that series' lap record with a 1:46.2.
And was that on a Slick?
Alex hogg yeah. Not sure if that is a race record or from qualifying, but either way this time is impressive.
@@ALMX5DP a Slick must be 2+ sec quicker than an R rated tyre
Alex hogg agreed.
It's a tradeoff. The street cars the GT3 cars are based on are usually a lot faster and more powerful (GT3R has circa 550 hp I think). The street cars make better use of the long straights such as the one Portimao has, the trap speed at the end is some 30+ km/h faster than on GT3 cars which are restricted by BOP. Either way you're right. Aero packages on these cars are so extreme they're racing slicks and some extra weight away from racecar status.
1:35 into that hot lap. Around 6:30 in to the video. That catch, mid corner! Exemplary sir! Epic driving!!!
That looked like quite a pucker moment!

Better than leather
@@muumuumu I disagree. I'll take a leather steering wheel any day over alcantara.
@@black350Z it's preference, alcantara however doesn't get slippery with hands sweating, just harder to keep clean, also it doesn't get that hot in summer sun nor cold in the winter. Most of the time it's simply better.
I like how much actual knowledge and experience Harris has - and he is a fun dude, well done!
The best thing that came out of the end of the original top gear FOR ME, was the discovery of Chris Harris. I know he's here probably for quite some time, but as I'm from Czech Republic (non English speaking country) I had no idea he exists. And thankfuly, NOW I KNOW! And I'm glad...
1.49.53 was the laptime, incredible stuff! If you watched the Grand Tour you will remember they took the 918, P1, and LaFerrari around this same track with a former Formula 1 driver, and those 3 didn't go under 1.55.00 (fastest was the 918 with 1.55.20). The GT2 RS MR smoked them by a good 5 seconds. Just goes to show how far we've come since 2013
And P1 got commented, handles like greasy pig lol
Those were standing starts, Chris did flying laps with the same cars and it beat the p1 by 2.5 seconds which is the old record now
5 seconds isn’t smoking it it’s 5 seconds mate

3 years on, this car is, in my mind the single best accomplishment, by a manufacturer and after market creator.
This car, for me, is still that which wet dreams are made off.
And, great interview with Lars too! He is so down to earth.
I was incredibly fortunate to sit in the passenger seat whilst Lars drove my 2019 GT3rs on Michelin Cup R’s for a full session at Phillip Island GP circuit in Australia last weekend. Apart from being an epic driver and showing me what my car can really do, he is an absolute gentleman and an unbelievable instructor. Porsche is insane, they really want kill mclaren lambos an ferrari, porsche is the goat right now, porsche and mclaren
Ferrari/McLaren aren't trying to beat it, especially on tracks like the Nurburgring. Ferrari could crush them if they really gave a damn, but they know that production car records are pretty much meaningless
Porsche practically owns Lamborghini and since 2019 now they actually help Lambo make better handling cars so they wouldn’t actually kill Lambo but yeah..its true there the best in business obviously..
I was about to write the same. Porsche and Mclaren. They are ahead of it'st time. Ferrari is history even in f1. Lambo is all about "exclusive editions". I have seen many of them on fire. Mercedes have a diferent focus in street cars.
