I live in Keswick and have been up Blencathra numerous times; but never via Sharp Edge. Thanks for showing this, it confirms that I’ve always made the right decision by going up another route….
Although I’ve been watching your videos for a while, I’ve been bingeing them for the past week following the sudden and painful loss of a beloved pet on Christmas Eve. I love how you’ve remained true to the spirit of hiking videos, focusing on the beauty and spectacle of nature, and the love of simply being outdoors. It’s wonderfully gentle viewing and has really been helping me cope. Thank you.
My wife and I might be getting on a bit now, but we're still out there enjoying the fells and have done many of your routes. While watching this video, my wife turned to me and said, 'There’s no way we’re doing that-I’m sweating just watching it!' And what you said about the Lakes-we couldn’t agree more. We’ve been lucky enough to travel abroad, but there’s nothing like the Lakes. It truly gets to you, and in our opinion, it's the best place on the planet! Brilliant video as always; keep up the fantastic work! 👍
Did Sharp Edge for the first (and last) time about 10 years ago, when I was 55! Watching your video I don't know how the hell I did it! Glad I've got photos to prove it. Great video and good to have you back over our side again 🙂
Been following your channel for ages but this video shows exactly why. Thank you for not being like all of the other creators on TH-cam who say that sharp, striding and swirral edges are “easy” if you’re careful but instead, showing people what it is actually like! Not that I’ve ever done Sharp edge as I’m not ready yet but this was so helpful. Great video as always at one of my favourite places in the Lakes ❤
Wow wow that was one of the best visual videos of sharp edge One of my favourite mountains in the lake but in 30 plus years of going to the lakes I’ve never done sharp edge yet and that was just a fantastic walk with u make me want to get up there and do it Thanks for another brilliant film and journey
Amazing video and you were so brave to walk along that ridge! It’s not something I would ever be able to do so thank you for taking us all along for the experience and to see those wonderful views x
I live in the Lakes and walk the fells quite often. I've now started walking the hills in Scotland. Last week we did Cairngorm via the corries. I wish I could film and talk like you can. Don't be put off by age, I'm 66 and fitter now than I have been for a while, just with walking. The POV vids are great, keep it up as it's an inspiration to get out on the hills. I wear Altra's Olympus 5's and the low and mid Gore-Tex boots. Excellent grip and the zero drop really did stop my knee and hip pain.
Wow, that makes Striding Edge look like a walk in the park. Well done for overcoming your false starts and conquering the challenge. It would be only a lapse in concentration or loss of grip and no happy ending.
First time up there we found a bloke cragfast about halfway up. Managed to talk him down to a safe spot before we carried on. Awesome ridge, quite exposed but short enough to power on through.
It’s a while since I did Sharp Edge, probably over 25 years now, but when I did I didn’t give it a second thought and just got on with it without too much alarm. Watching the video really did bring it home how potentially dangerous it can be and seemingly more exposed and vulnerable than I can recall. That said I wondered if the camera lens and closeness to the rock had the effect of intensifying the steepness and terror of the edge? Only way to find out would be to revisit which now 25 years older and wiser I’m not going to do.
I absolutely loved every minute of that, there was so much of it...the views when they appeared past the rocks and the rocks themselves when they appeared out of the mist....wonderful
Have done 'Saddleback' and Sharp Edge a few times many years ago....last time did the bad step on my stomach clinging on..... In the past 8 years or so can nolonger take any exposure.....even on this video had to look away....😮 Fab hill, great scenery. You did a grand job.....thanks for sharing.....go careful.
Edge of seat, gnawing down to my knuckles. 😲 So beautiful. (the views not my gnawed knuckles) ! Shame there's no pub on the summit 😂 30:42 the small disc of the sun just peeping through the mist , I love that plus the sound of wind. So atmospheric, I am there. You Glenn have succeeded to your challenge.
My school had a climbing club, and together we did that route in the '70's. 12 teenagers and 4 or 5 teachers. Can't imagine that would be allowed nowadays. Stunning shots, and vertigo and a brew,.........nice.
Nice, just went up Hall's Fell ridge with Allen and Blue to come back down with you. ✨ No way anyone would get me across any one of those ridges. I did Striding Edge and Swirrel Edge in 1968 and 1973. I guess that was enough for a lifetime. Thanks for taking us along.
Your videos transport me to another world. I'm captivated by the beauty of your adventures. Your courage & enthusiasm are incredible. Take great care. 👍
You are often disparaging of the format and content in your earlier videos but I feel that those that started with epic drone footage and exquisitely chosen music are amongst the very best on TH-cam. For a personal reason I think your cinematography on “Kentmere Horseshoe” (the Aurora Night one) is exceptional. Thank you.
I remember sitting on Foule Crag above Sharp edge sometime around 2007 when my daughters were at primary school. I live in Co Durham & it was around 10am & my phone rang & it was my youngest's teacher asking if I could bring down her PE kit which she'd forgotten. I said 'that might be a problem'. Great detail on that sharp edge footage.
OMG!!! What a wild ride in terms of weather, terrain and altitude! Good idea to use the head camera! You love the mountains for the ultimate energy they produce, varied landscapes and journeys and the challenges!! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time... I needed a beer by the end LOL Thanks for sharing! Love from the USA! GET BETTER SHOES!!!!!
Remember being at the summit trig on Blencathra in the clagg and a guy and his son (about 12/13) popped up out of the mist off that ridge telling me it's a nice way up,made me really feel I'd missed out, been up a few times since on a clear day, and although it looks stunning, think I'd rather take one of the many normal persons routes up, go on the fells to unwind not scare the shit out of myself...
Loved that one mate, well done that looked scary , best shots iv seen of sharp edge. Good camera work, look forward to these lakeland walks, rave on my freind,
I really appreciate your enthusiasm for the Lakeland fells, you say exactly how I feel about about them. Love them, love them, love them, my obsession and I'm proud to admit it.
Great! I did sharp edge/Blencathra about 12 years ago, same route - but being idiots, we went up Halls Fell and down Sharp Edge. I'll never forget it - sounds like it was just as windy as I remember. Thanks 🙂
Wow!! That was a bit of a white knuckle ride, I was tightly gripping my coffee cup while you were going up Sharp Edge 😂. It was fascinating to see how spectacular this route is & definitely not for the faint hearted. On reflection tho I think Striding Edge is my limit. Thank you for another amazing video 😊
Oh that made my legs go strange watching you doing the edge, not for me personally but still great to watch, well to watch you make it safe. We love the North lakes but I like the safer fells for sure, always great videos
No apologies necessary. You have nerves of steel! Great from my armchair, but I was holding my breath all the way along that edge! Thank you! Very happy that you had no mishaps! Fantastic views! - Gaylin, Ontario Canada
I appreciate that your shoes were not maybe giving that much confidence, but after the 'bad step' on Sharp Edge, it really is easier attacking the last part of the ridge direct. Maybe a little iffy at the start but using the old three points of contact, it gives a fairy easy route to the top of the edge. Other than that a great video and despite what you thought about lots of rocks, it was a very refreshing approach to your video, may be the only way to film it. Well done!!
A mixture of elation and fear. Sharp Edge is awesome, especially with the camera being on your cap., it gives you stunning views all around especially those of Scales Tarn. I had to gulp a few times at the shear drops. You've excelled yourself Glenn, we know this area brings out the best in you. Loved every second of this Vlog. There's no time to Die, just time to Live to the full. 😍👌
Loved that one! Done the exact same route a few times. The climb up from the end of Sharp edge is harder than the ridge itself. The descent down "knee wrecker ridge" aka Halls fell is great for the views but my poor knees tend to suffer. Yes that last bad step on the final path is wayyyy more difficult than it should be. Finally, when you went through St Johns in the vale I guessed "The Travellers"! Just a great way to spend a Sunday evening, many thanks!
Great video, did sharp edge a few weeks back , loved it , got emotional afterwards as I did it in memory of my dad, was gutted before I started as I was meant to film the whole ridge and scramble but left gopro on bus , luckily it was handed in and I got it back a week later haha, filmed as much as I could with phone
Nope 😂 honestly this made me so anxious 😂 I had to take my asthma inhaler!! I'm glad you enjoyed it, I was terrified the whole way through. I will absolutely never ever do that kind of hike. ❤
I did this route 25 years ago aged 40 , damn near killed me 😂 must say I was glad to be down and won’t be doing it again . I had Zamberlin boots then loved them can’t get them now or haven’t seen them , thanks for reminding me how well I did 😀👍
Fair play in that weather mate, I personally like going up halls fell over saddleback down the path to the tarn back up sharp edge back along saddleback back down halls fell. Great little route.
Yeah we had the same conditions coming down off of Blencathra, although I didn't see the views you did at points there, so so stunning. I feel the same with Lake District. It really makes you excited and warm - anytime of the year. Fantastic video, as always :)
I did wonder on the older videos why you were making so much more work for yourself. The drone shots and everything looked great cos you've a really good eye, but I think you did right to change style. The pov vlogs allow much more for your personality to come across. Don't know about anyone else, but that's a large part of what I find so engaging in what you're doing. You're reet, big fella 👍 Also slightly tapped 😂
Ahh bless you, had the same in Glencoe once where the great shoes I had on weren’t right for the conditions… if only the forecasters were right occasionally! Great video. Cheers, Neil
Looks a great day out walking and scrambling that, must get up there next year. For scrambling I love the INOV-8 Roclites 345 & 400, very light and greally grippy soles on dry rock in particular.
Outstanding! Loved the POV footage on the edges. I would never have the confidence to try anything as exposed as those so really appreciated the opportunity to experience them via your camera. One of your best videos. Thank you 😊
Great video Glenn 👍 did it at Easter last year. I'm definitely a hiking boots type of bloke , ankle support is a must for me. And definitely soft compound vibram soles ! Brasher supalight all the way. Keep enjoying life sir , your videos are amazing... so is quiet fin 😊
Blimey! You had me on the edge of my seat on that edge, I had to pull out the chips to have something to bite on. So dam glad you got to the pub at the end. . . Love the pub music btw.
Can catch anyone out anytime. Was there in Summer running....been up many times but for whatever reason had a mare. Slipin and slidin...Always needs respect just like you Glenn. Top work. Glad to see you back in Cumbria.
Hiya. This Video was Visually Incredible. It was an Experience Watching it in 4K HIDEF Climbing That Edge, Felt like I was there, and the Views plus Sound Quality award winning Footage . Brilliant
Dear lord 😯 , seriously, that's the worst vertigo I've ever had from my sofa. I'll do a left at ScalesTarn 👍 Thank you for another awesome journey. Can't wait for the Northern fells next year.
You're videos are brilliant black crag I always look forward to your new videos. Looks like you had a brilliant day on Sharp edge and blencathra, I've just come back from the lakes earlier in October and it's out of this world ⛰️❤️ In terms of boots I wear i have a pair of Scarpa delta gtx which are 3 years old and I've recently got myself a pair of miendl tonale. Anyway keep the videos coming 👍🙂
Hi, Sharp Edge and the final climb up to Ackinson Pike is great fun. I've been hiking the fells for about 50 years and only got round to doing Blencathra this summer (2024) no idea why it took so long, maybe as you said its not really a day out, and when I did it, I lost my action camera so could not upload any footage except for my drone footage. Anyway great video and reminded me of a great fun climb 😁
Previously known as Razor Edge, for good reason. On one occasion as I sat with my coffee and a Fruit and Nut bar I watched a large husky dog bound up it. When I queried it with it’s owner I was told “Oh he does it twice a week, we live at the base of Blencathra. He has also done the Arctic Traverse. He is in a hurry today he wants a drink at the tarn.”
I wear la sportiva tx 4 for that kind of walk. The vibram soles with the donut shaped lugs are very sticky imo and have not let me down. I have not tried the tx5 that you are wearing but I am surprised that you suffered from a lack of grip using them as I would have expected the soles to be similar to my tx4’s. There’s plenty of people who scramble on TH-cam extolling the virtues of the tx4 who use them for much more extreme scrambling than sharp edge.
Wow, Glen, i know I couldn't do sharp edge. We walked Blencathra a couple of years ago, but from Blease fell. Anyone doing this must have nerves of steel. The Lake district just does it for me, too. I don't know why it just feels like home every time we visit there. Gorgeous place. Just hope tourists look after it. 😊
Not the lakes worst grade 1 scramble by any stretch. But as you said, I too found the climb up away from the ridge more scary than the ridge itself; especially in the wet! Cracking Video.
I watch your videos as I find them relaxing and cosy. I get to see some of the most beautiful parts of the country while I lie in bed and relax to your soothing voice wittering on. The worst thing about any of your videos is the thought I have work on Monday morning. However, I wasn’t prepared for this video which for someone who is terrified of heights was akin to watching Vin Diesel in Skyscraper. Wow! That was some scramble. Watching you I. Knew you would be OK (otherwise how was the video published) but I was very worried we might all end up in over the edge and in the water. “Just a straightforward path now”! Hah! Can we go back to the cosy soothing Black Crag please. ❤❤❤😂
Interesting stuff. Never got to see most of that. Only been up Blencathra once. It was a morning outing before a mountaineer's funeral. Up the West end, Blease Fell, in fog so thick I couldn't see my feet. I kept my left foot feeling the grass and my right foot feeling the stones and by that method I managed to follow the left (North) edge of the path all the way to the top. I was tempted by Hall's Fell but in those conditions I opted for going round the back instead. Do the ridges another time hopefully.
I literally live in my Hoka Stinsons outside whether hiking or trail running...and thanks for showing us Striding Edge because I ain't ever doing that! 🙈🤣
Did this in late July with my 10yr old granddaughter, we made the ascent by Halls Fell ridge then because the weather was so perfect we (she) decided to go down by Sharp Edge, have to say she was fine with it, I wasn't as I was worried about her the whole way down. I was just wearing some Merrell moab boots and she was wearing some Berghaus kids boots but it was bone dry and we wouldn't have done it if it wasn't. Stopped and dipped our feet in the tarn on the way back while eating lunch before making our way back to Threlkeld. Great walk and a great video. Thanks.
I have 3 pairs of mountain boots/shoes and still can't find best pair. For winter and wet weather I can use Scarpa Ranger. They are great but a little bit too heavy. For trails like Sharp Edge or something similar in good weather I prefer Salewa mountain trainer 2 gtx. Great grip but they are too hard. For summer and low level walks I have bought Adidas Terrex free hiker 2 gtx. Tested few times since last summer and for now I can't say something more. It's hard to find perfect footwear but I love buying and try another shoes or boots. As a Poles who love Lake District I can only say THANK YOU for your videos. You are our inspiration.
Just watched as far as the start of the ridge and what a beautiful place, will be back later with the ‘what were you thinking, sheer madness, omg comments 🙈🤣🤣
There is no better filmmaker of the Lake District than the Black Crag. This is arguably your piece de resistance. Bravo Sir 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I live in Keswick and have been up Blencathra numerous times; but never via Sharp Edge. Thanks for showing this, it confirms that I’ve always made the right decision by going up another route….
Ahhh it's good fun. Just don't choose a wet day 😅
That was a hard watch for me, even from behind my cushion 😂
Well done!!!
Thank you.
Aaw, so sorry for your loss 😔
My wife and I might be getting on a bit now, but we're still out there enjoying the fells and have done many of your routes. You've convinced me,come spring I'm going to the lakes. Anything I need to know?
@@VincentVincent-s9t MWIS(mountain weather information service), OS maps(and knowledge of how to use them), then go and enjoy the fells!
@@VincentVincent-s9t anything written by Alfred Wainwright especially the Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.

One of the best yet. It feels like I’m sharing something, not being taught or told. 👍
Been following your channel for ages but this video shows exactly why. Thank you for not being like all of the other creators on TH-cam who say that sharp, striding and swirral edges are “easy” if you’re careful but instead, showing people what it is actually like!

16:42 “It’s not nice”
British understatement”
Wow, well done video
🇨🇦
I did sharp edge around 1976/7 fortunately it was a nice day with good visibility off memory. Another top video. Thanks.
Amazing video and you were so brave to walk along that ridge! It’s not something I would ever be able to do so thank you for taking us all along for the experience and to see those wonderful views x
Nah! There isn’t enough money in the world to get me on that ridge! I suffer from acrophobia & it was a struggle to even watch this 🥺😄 20:24
£100k and you'd be up there in no time!!

In the past 8 years or so can nolonger take any exposure.....even on this video had to look away....😮

first time having vertigo on a sofa 😦 glad you've done it now so that I don't have to!
This is the best video of this hike I have ever seen. Great job, stunning footage.

Sharp Edge? No kidding. It's like the back of a dragon. Great POV and I'm glad you survived!
Nice, just went up Hall's Fell ridge with Allen and Blue to come back down with you. ✨
No way anyone would get me across any one of those ridges.

You were totally calm, fearless and very impressive 👏👏.
The Razor edge trail on Mt. Katahdin in Maine, very similar. 🇬🇧🇺🇲🍻
That was an EPIC video. Terrifying, held my breath for a good 20 minutes, but beautiful.

Lovely to see you back in the lakes Glenn. Wonderful video
Merrell Men's MOAB III Mid GORE-TEX® Walking Boots are the ones I use, ultra grippy, comfy and most importantly no blisters
Ditto 👍 And they last ages.
Love the POV approach you do, makes it feel like we are hiking with you :)
Fair play in that weather mate, I personally like going up halls fell over saddleback down the path to the tarn back up sharp edge back along saddleback back down halls fell. Great little route.

Nice one Glenn. I was at Scales tarn on Sept 4th, I didn't go the Sharp Edge route to the summit. Great view from the top. Thanks John
Blimey! You had me on the edge of my seat on that edge, I had to pull out the chips to have something to bite on. So dam glad you got to the pub at the end. . . Love the pub music btw.
Excellent mate, what a tremendous mountain, especially liked the views back down the ridge 👍👍👍
I don’t know how you did that ! just watching it gave me tingling in my feet 😂
What do you mean 'Get A Brew'? - I needed both hands for that white knuckle experience
Great job, That was a tough climb! Thanks.
Great you are back in the Lake District. Missing the opening music, they went together so well. Hopefully it will return 🤞🤞
Looks like you had a brilliant day on Sharp edge and blencathra, I've just come back from the lakes earlier in October and it's out of this world ⛰️❤️
In terms of boots I wear i have a pair of Scarpa delta gtx which are 3 years old and I've recently got myself a pair of miendl tonale.
Anyway keep the videos coming 👍🙂
Watched it all, dear lord, had to take it off the big telly and watch on the little iPad 🙈 crazy stuff in slippy shoes
Love it! Thanks sir.
Scary watching it 😮 well done !
Beautiful scenery, well done, I enjoyed the walk with you 👍🏻
I wear la sportiva tx 4 for that kind of walk.
Yee Gods, Glen! That did my vertigo no good at all!
22:00 this must have looked incredible in person
One of my favourite post hike pubs too
Interesting stuff.
WOW!! Pretty sketchy hike. The ridge looked dangerous. I'm glad you made okay. Some great video in hike. Well done!
Thanks.
I have been wearing Moabs for a few years. They're very good and seem to have plenty of miles left in them.
Excellent stuff, thank you.👍
