I’ve lived in Japan for 17 years…..because of your videos I have decided to climb Fuji, I know it’s small but it will be my first. Thanks for the motivation to get in shape and climb a mountain.
Me too 20 years ago, bullet climbed it in a day up and down. I wish you a great tour! I wouldn't do it in a day again, not enough time to soak up the landscape and the experience.
Dude, idk how it happened but I just started watching your videos now I'm about to start getting in shape for my first summit Mount Hood. Always wanted to get into mountaineering and watching videos like these have reignited that dream. Thanks 🙏🏾
Living in the PNW and hiking the Enchantments I've learned two things. 1. Switchbacks suck 2. Alpine lakes visually take your breath away and physically take your breath away lol. Live in Kansas now very void of mountains and very homesick. Enjoyed your video a lot. Be safe
Keep Putting this stuff out man. Love it. kinda have been in a rough spot for 3 years now and watching the full 5 hours of the everest expedition and now this has helped me somewhat feel like I'm back to my old self again working towards a goal not spending my life on a computer even though I am. Keep putting this stuff out helps me see the light at the end of the tunnel man. Maybe one day I can get into Mountaineering.👍
find the nearest hill to where you live and walk up it, everytime you see that hill in the future you will get a boost, doesnt need to be a big hill at all
I have camped at Lake Ann many times but never had a desire to climb Mount Shuksan. The low end of the trail is where it connects with the Pacific Northwest Trail and Swift Creek Trail that goes down to Baker Lake. The people that said you were almost there meant you were almost to Lake Ann. The stars and moon are beautiful to watch at Lake Ann. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed the hike from my bedroom. I have seen Mount Shuksan 100s of times hiking the trails below. Its magnificent. I have been a trail correspondent for Washington Trail Association in Washington State and l live not too far from Mount Baker. Love this place. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
this has become one of my all time favorite channels on youtube, and ive been on here since charlie the unicorn, shoes, salad fingers, and llamas with hats, makemebad..... love it consider yourself legitimately fn awesome.
Congrats! Summited Shuksan via Fischer’s Chimneys last year. Awesome climb with mixed technicals. Day one to high camp above Winney’s Slide. Day 2 summit. Day three high camp all the way out. That last 1000 feet back to the cars is brutal!
I think he has inspired many people all over the world. I've planned my first ever expedition to Nepal in Oct 2025 . Mera peak, island peak, loubche east peak 30 day trek it's going to be incredible.
As of now, i won't be able to afford to fulfill my dreams of adventures like you but I'm happy that i can literally be with you experiencing watching every steps of yours. Thanks for taking with you to adventures. Love from Nagaland, India.
been absolutely loving your content! im starting my seven summits journey in January with Kilimanjaro and your videos have been very fun and inspirational to watch. keep up the awesome content, your future is so bright!
glad i decided to check if there was anyone who vlogged an everest climb. watched all the videos and wondered if there would be more. definitely subscribing!
Congrats on the climb! This one is on my list. I noticed that your lifter straps on your pack are not adjusted properly, since there is an air gap above the top of your shoulder. If you loosen all your straps, tighten the waist first, then the shoulder straps, then the chest, and finally the lifters at the top just until it brings the pack closer to your center of weight, the distribution of the weight will make everything feel lighter.
its so nice to see the true beauty of my state, I really appreciate these videos along with the craziness you possess to climb the mountains I call home
You have such a cool, relaxed and natural, yet informative way of narrating and filming that you got me completely immersed in your climb (been a climber for almost 50 years now). In this one even more than in the Everest videos. And then, this episode on the Shuksan very summit completely eludes my understanding. You have spent more attention to a goat, and even to a fly on your pants, than to humans, that extraordinary meeting of another climbing party at the top on a such a desolate place. I don't know, I just don't get it.
Ryan, you are good at climbing. you do difficult things and stay relaxed, I love it! thank you for this very beautiful video, I discovered the American mountains, it’s very beautiful! see you soon !
So glad I'm one of your early fans and subscribers, to witness these amazing adventures! I really enjoyed your mount everest series, and your end message really inspired me! Safe travels, always!😁😃👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💖
I live in Washington state too. Great mixed climbing video. Some of those chimneys might have been a nightmare earlier in the climbing season when there could be verglas (ice coated rock). I've seen my share of crappy climbing and skiing videos, but this video was very very good. See Cody Townsend video (The Fifty) about skiing Mt. Shuksan if you are into ski mountaineering.
In 70's Climbed peak near Devil's Postpile, Sierras; could see back side of Half Dome, Yosemite 100+ miles north, & lots more! 1984 Free handed a 13er west of Independence Pass; saw all the 14ers!
They picture on your TH-cam page with that comment saying you fake everything is HILARIOUS 😂 These videos are amazing! Makes me want to learn to hike/climb
Dude this documentation job was impeccable. I just did my first off trail class 2/3 summit of a peak in Montana after only doing trails, and this is just the best way to learn what actual mountaineering takes. Keep it up man!
I love feeling like I'm on these climbs with you! I have to believe that the guides you go with love working with you. You are not only very capable, but you're so positive about things too. One thing that makes me laugh is how you notice the little things... plants, flowers, the bees, the goat, and catching a whiff of people smoking weed on the summit. 🤣 I just subscribed... and I will look forward to seeing the next mountain on your list. Climb safe! 😁👍
RYAN: Your videos are so well done. Mt Rainier was epic. When I worked at R.E..I in Tacoma each early morning while stocking we could see the Rainier shadow too.
Thank you for making my life much better. Ever since I discovered your second chanale my life enproved tenfold. I have also started climbing, didn't climb that much in the 4 months I started, I am also 15 so I don't really have that many options for climbing but my record is a mountain at 2500 meters (idk what that is in feet) but someday I hope I will have the opportunity to climb everest or k2. Awesome video.
It maybe too much but I wouldn’t mind seeing more of your camp sight routine at the end of the day. Love the fact you were brave enough to take on such projects, followed your dreams and took us with you. Stay safe!
Thank you Ryan & Justin - what a beautiful climb! Except for the altitude difference - the Fischer Chimney and the final rock ascent are perhaps good preparation for the House's Chimney on K2 (or up the Matterhorn).
Glad you’re enjoying the North Cascades, Ryan. Fisher Chimneys is the second easiest route on Shuksan - a good place to hone your newfound alpine skills.
Love your videos and thanks for sharing. Be safe! Don't rush your climbing to post videos. Prefer you climb safely so we can see many more of your great videos!
I was getting ready to solo shuksans north face later this august wouldn’t say it’s the hardest climb in the north cascades… especially during the winter… also Washington and weed go together baby we thoroughly enjoy our alpine splifage
lol Im a fellow masshole who moved out to Washington state recently and I love it so much. the white mountains don't have anything on the cascades, and seeing a stratovolcano on the way to work everyday is also kind of nice
Climbed Shuksan back in 2012. Never did any rock climbing before. My guide thought I had some experience but nope. He climbed up, set the rope and told me exactly where to put my hands and feet. Made it to the top without a slip. We rappelled down by rope a different way. It was a very rewarding climb.
Impressive hike! You do a great job with the narration and video. Makes me feel like im right there with you. Almost feel like ive climbed the mountain myself. Keep up the great work as you now have a new subscriber and follower 😊
During the video I was thinking you should do Rainier while out here (I live in Seattle) & low & behold, looks like you are going to do it. Great video, that ended up way more technical that it looked from a distance. Good luck!

I was at shuksan near the end of july this year. Was my first time in Washington as well. We did the Sulphide Glacier route but had to turn around due to inclimate weather. Such a beautiful area, ill be back to tag the summit one day!
I live in Washington this is very cool. I watched you full adventure climbing the summit of Mt. Everest. Now you a climbing mountains in Washington is very awesome to see. Wish you best of luck!
Hey Ryan loved your mt Everest series incredible I was just thinking if you would consider climbing Choy oyu the 6th tallest mountain in the world and one of the easiest out of the 8000 meter peaks just a thought
I think Ryan Jenks oh HowNot2 did a video on the type of climbing you guys were doing in the final section to the summit. The sketch factor in all of this is incredible - bravo
There are many climbs in the North cascades way harder than the fisher chimneys on Mt Shuksan. Mt challenger. Mt Forbidden, Mt Spikard, Mt Johannesberg, Mt redoubt, The Pickets, etc. That being said, Fisher Chimneys is a nice climb for sure, just not in any way the hardest in the North cascades.
I'm not sure if thats the hardest climb there are some much bigger rockfaces in the North Cascades like Mt Terror. Not many cascade peaks have both a glacier and rock climb. I climbed Mt Baker a few years ago and while it wasn't super steep there was alot of zigzagging around crevasses. One of the rope team members got altitude sick so we were pretty slow getting down Mt Baker and the snow bridges were getting dangerously soft. We came accross a suspect snow bridge and dug a bunch of our axes into the snow before we crossed. The snow bridge broke under the lead climber but she only fell a couple feet because of our axes.
Ryan, nice job with the camera and editing. As a “developing” climber, you did a fine job on this route. My burning question - why did it take two days to descent from high camp?!?
I havent been able to watch this Video due to time restraints, so you may have talked about it. However, Im curious as to what other Mountains you're planning to summit? Also, your Everest Vlogs were unbelievably interesting, thanks for doing them so thoroughly
Beautiful climb! It's making me want to do mountaineering, not to go to Everest but just a cool mountain somewhere. Unfortunately I don't have the money for anything more than the lake district for now!
You should go climb Whitney by either the mountaineering route or the Muir Trail! It's one of the most pretty hikes I've ever been on, and I think either route would be worth it! Either that or climb K2 lmao.
Try adjusting your load lifters on your pack a bit it looks like the straps are not distributing the weight evenly across your shoulders and its lifted off your shoulders like the torso section is ajusted too long. Maybe the torso needs adjustment Should be 60-70% on hips and 30-40% on the shoulders! Give it a shot!
It’s easy to under appreciated how much the wind can take it out of you and how much harder climbing cold rock in gloves is than nice sun warmed rock with bare hands.
Crazy to see this video from your channel, Im local to the norcascades so ive done this peak various times up multiple routes, cool seei`g it on your channel after the everest series. I will say though, you don't need to lie and claim this is the hardest peak in the north cascades, no need to boast a false truth, we already are impressed enough you can climb everest. There are many peaks that are more technical and much harder treks to reach in the north cascades, i would say middle index being the hardest, if you want to really climb the hardest peak in the north cascades you gotta climb middle index next time youre out here to redeem yourself 😉.
I did middle peak of Index in 1998 free solo, and it is fairly involved. Technically speaking, the hardest summit is Grizzly Needle in The Needles. 6 pitches up to 10a followed by three overhanging rappels. Even on my best day I wouldnt solo it without extraordinary need . Mt Baring has a couple of hard big wall routes up to 5.13, as do Early Winters Spires, Liberty Bell and Norwegian Buttress on Index.
Glad i could bring you all along for this climb!
Climbing Rainier in about a week with Justin, so stay tuned for that video
