Im not a head doctor but i know, in the same position as you, that a sheer drop covered in scree that would carry you down and off the edge is far scarier than a sheer drop covered in grass and greenery that you could potentially spreadeagle and stop falling. Either way your mind must eventually say "you've been fine up until now so maybe there's no danger".

Paul this has been a wonderful series. Your epiphany about facing fears is something I have experienced and witnessed many times in my military career - somehow the act of "doing it" and coming out the other side gives a sense of "change" - usually for the better.

It’s been such a joy watching your trip. I got emotional with you!
I’m not a head doctor, but something similar happened to me. I got over my fear of flying by doing 8 flights within 3 weeks (in order to visit international family). Before the trip I would be hyperventilating with fear days leading up to any flight. I’d get sick with worry. But by the end of these 8 flights I didn’t even think about it. It felt very sudden. Somewhere during the need to just get through the flights my mind realized the fear and physical reaction was pointless and gave up fighting. (Probably helped that there was sleep deprivation at play and my brain could only focus on what actually mattered in the moment) 😅 I can’t believe it, but there it is! ‘Just like that’ I don’t worry about flying.

Just class as usual 👏🏻👏🏻. It’s great because you can put into words exactly how I feel/get around hights big drops 👊🏻. I managed to do swirral edge and the feelings and the rush it gave me was the best. I wouldn’t say I’m cured but I definitely feel more confident and comfortable but still a little wary 👍🏻. Keep up the good work looking forward to the next chapter 🍻
I teared up with you, mate. I can say I've gone through a form of exposure therapy too unexpectedly.
I had a pint glass through me bonce in a fight once in me 20s I'd never been scared of broken glass until that point in my life.
Then years later learning my Flintknapping I started knapping glass and it really helped actually breaking the glass. Cured instantly mate. You're not wrong so maybe same for the height thing.

Fab series of videos.....com'on wet weather so I can sit and watch again back to back. I've done many a hill, Munro, and used to love a ridge walk....now I have the fear... even on some of these videos. If there's exposure, I have to look away.....can't even stand and look over Castle battlements. Still enjoy a hike, Glen, valley walk and a wild camp.....
