Moment of TERROR waiting to see legendary GHOST ARMY

  • I've been wanting to camp on Souther Fell in The Lake District on midsummer's eve for many years. The sole purpose is to see the fabled spectral army that was witnessed by a few dozen people back in the 1700s.
This year was my year. Join me as I spend time with Finn waiting for their arrival and have a good laugh at me in absolute terror just after dark! It was a weird and disturbing moment, that's for sure!
As always, thank you so much for watching; I appreciate all the support you have shown me over the years!

A few weeks ago, I was walking along a small cut through about 7am and saw a young lad go behind a tree, clear as day. I walked past a bit dubiously as it was quite dark still but he wasn’t behind the tree, or up it and there was no gate in the fence that runs alongside the lane that he could have gone into. Very odd!

Excellent vid!! Love it - very relaxing - the sound of skylarks is the background noise to where I live on the West Pennine Moors.
I can empathise with your sense of unease - been there once. I've been out at all times of night, and in many isolated places on my own and I've never really been spooked... except for one night when I was doing some astro stuff at Kichrist on Skye a couple of years back. I was in the old graveyard behind the ruined church and had just set up around 11pm in Autumn - the Milky Way looked magnificent! I'd done a couple of LE's for the foreground of the comp' image, and was just about to rattle off a series of MW images for stacking to do the sky, when a very disturbing grunt-come-howl was emitted from the forest beyond the graveyard wall, and not just the once either, and it seemed to be getting louder (closer). I'm a big bloke, and can handle myself, but this really, really unsettled me and then my mind started playing tricks. I just couldn't focus on the job at hand so I ended up packing up and going back to the car. Difficult to describe the sense of relief when I closed the car door and started the engine - and this is from somebody who lives in a house dating from the mid-1700s that has a ghost in it, and I'm used to things going bump in the night and objects moving inexplicably. Thinking back, and being logical about it, it had to be a stag roaming around the forest, but at the time my mind wasn't convinced.

just a hindsight: you should have planted a cam outside before darkness fell, at a position to see full view of the ridge and see if it could capture something.

My Jack Russell called Major was so like Finn. He was obsessed with a tennis ball. We played this game over and over again. He was the best dog ever ❤

I just love ur dog Finn, she's so happy & so playful! Here in Alaska we really love our dogs too. There a major part of dog mushing in winter. I don't like to see dogs used for sport & money. It disturbs me. Our dog is purely for love & companionship. She's old now, 15, so we basically live to make her days the best ever.
1st time watcher, thanks for a great vid w/ beautiful scenery!!! 😊

Did they ever know what army make have crossed there? Maybe it was Aragorn leading the army of the dead. “Wait wait I know it’s this way. Trust me of course I know where Gondor is. Leggie we are lost as hell!”

I wish I could say Finn is the best dog in the world, but I’d upset little Daisy who’s started wild camping with me in Northumberland. She’s a little Cockerpoo, and like Finn she did settle better when I brought a throwing toy with me. Love your video, thanks 🙏

Awesome outing mate, i suffer badly with midge bites and just back from hiking in Corfu so i tried Odomos cream made in India and i never got bit once, the other half got it off the web, no more choking to death with that spray stuff…. Once again great viewing and thanks for sharing, Robbo 👍👍

Ive got a video on souther fell aswell although short and no talking, the place looks eerie with the grey skies and snowcapped bannerdale. On the video you hear the wind pick up but not the sound of loads of fast paced steps going past the tent as in a load of people running. Strange place but lovely fell.

I'd recommend metal sporks and cups, never break never taste of plastic. Ideally enclosed SIGG type flasks rather than open cups, keep coffee hot for hours and again, never taste of plastic or get scratched etc.
