Strange your vid popping up on feed. I walk the dog on the hills by my village every evening. In the winter, when it's dark, I take a torch. The other night she stopped, alerted me to something off to my left, and started growling. I turned the torch to where she was looking and the torch went out. Wouldn't turn back on. So I turned round and headed back to the car! The torch came on again about 10 yards from the car. Still walk her there, but that was odd. 😅
Came for the spooky figure, stayed for the lovely narration and that's what she said jokes 😂 so glad you were on my recommended tab! These hills remind me of the rolling hills here in southern Idaho, though we are at a different altitude. The views feel familiar, though! Thanks for the adventure! ❤
Just found your channel today and want to say that I really enjoyed how you shot your video because you did not constantly put down a camera walk away and then walk towards the camera that is very over done in these types of videos the way you shot yours is a breath of fresh air so thanks you got a fan for life
It's videos like yours that make TH-cam worth watching. I always thoroughly enjoy going on these walks "with" you. I went through a phase of watching a lot of ghost-hunting documentaries, and I must say, most of them would kill to get footage like that of the figure next to your tent! You ought to send it to one of those people that analyses paranormal videos to get their opinion. To me, it looks like what ghost hunters call a "shadow person". As for feeling pressured to go out when you aren't feeling well, I'm sure people would be just as happy to watch a video of you at home telling stories about hiking or pretty much anything. You don't need to drag yourself out when you feel poorly or your foot's playing up. Hope you feel better soon!
After reading some of the comments about taking a rest, i no longer feel guilty about being tired all day. I feel lazy if i rest. Watching this video and knowing that others are doing the same, has made me feel more content.
What a lovely video! The scenery was stunning. It's always nice to finish off at a welcoming pub for a pint. There was definitely, a figure standing by your tent. The fact that the area was dark at the time means it couldn't be something at a distance which you mistook for a figure. It actually looked as if it moved slightly too. Thank you so much for taking us with you!
Fantastic vid thank you! I went on a few walks around here with a friend whose now sadly passed away some years ago. He loved the fells and was ticking off all the wainrights, especially the more obscure ones! We spent some time looking for old mines around here. RIP Chris. Gone to soon. We didn't see a soul and certainly soaked up the old wintry atmosphere.
At risk of sounding like a hovering mother-figure, and not knowing how much experience you've had with bronchitis - please, if you're developing congestion, a "wet" cough, tightness in your chest, and feel a bit fatigued - that's your body telling you that you absolutely should slow down. You need to force yourself to curl up under a blanket, drink plenty of water, hot tea and broth and sleep whenever you can while your body fights. I used to ignore that advice and ended up with pneumonia three times. Ok, lecture over. I love your channel!
Amazing video, your best one in a while - loved the return of the drone footage with the background music. The videos are always great, but this one felt really natural and was a joy to watch 👍
I don't know if you live within the Lakes but I do, I see the Waters and fells everyday and I know I take it all for granted. I don't get out and about in it as much as I should really. Its only watching something like this that makes me realise what's just outside my front door and how I should put time aside for getting out in the middle of it all.
Not being physically able to go hiking myself, I have to have two more spinal surgeries which will make 7 total, I’m living vicariously through you and your videos. The trails, views, and the lands are so gorgeous! Keep on keeping on and stay safe out there. ❤❤
Me and my wife went for a couple of nights bed and breakfast at the Mill Inn in December 2021. After we unpacked we turned on the tv and couldn't get a picture, so we rang down for the managers help. He couldn't fix the tv so suggested going to a room across the corridor to watch as nobody was staying in that room. I did just that while my wife had a bath. While I was there I heard the sound of loud voices and tv from the next door room , but thought nothing of it, and eventually crossed the corridor back to our room before we went down for our evening meal. The manager said he was the only person on duty that evening and he also cooked us our meal. While we were eating we got talking to him and I asked about the people in room 5 were they not coming down for their evening meal? He said we were the only customers that night, and that I must have heard a ghost! He went on to say that the cook refused to sleep in the inn and stayed in a caravan on the car park because of the ghosts!
That spooky camp was actually the first video I watched of yours! I fell in love with little Finn and enjoyed how you spoke about the Wainwrights. Done a few of the routes you have posted since then as it's always nice to feel like you know a route well when you're out there alone. Brilliant stuff as always
I have Mondays off & my boyfriend works super early, so I wake up with him & when he's gone to work I sit with a brew & watch new Crag while the rest of the world is still in bed. I love your videos & my little routine! 🫖
My family and I so look forward to your Sundays, myself especially… a black coffee with Black Crag. We cozy up with a big warm blanket and my son loves to announce it’s a “Black Crag Spooky Scary Sunday!” We live in San Francisco, California and have not visited the UK, just yet. Thank you for all you do, your work is spectacular. Stay warm and spooky out there! 🖤
If you visit stop by the yorkshire dales too, next to the lake district. Quieter area, smaller hills, but amazing limestone scenery, cave systems and rolling green hills.
@@gkirkbride5565 I'll second that comment. I live in Fleetwood, and one of my favourite days out, is to drive over to Ingleton to do the waterfalls walk in the morning, then drive to the White Scar Caves. Then continue East to a turn-off left, under a tall viaduct, and on to Dent village, where there's a nice little pub. Later we returned West-wards, via Devils Bridge. I well recommend this, for anyone, who like me, can no longer do the higher fells or mountains.
Love the cold bleak hiking videos mate. For someone who lives in the driest state on the driest continent seeing water, snow and green hills is beautiful.
My favourite camping meal is what I call sausage strogonoff ! Twisty pasta (Fusilli). tin of Campbell's condensed soup, onions, sausages. Cut sausages up into small pieces, fry them along with sliced onions. Empty tin of soup into that and add some water, simma for however long it takes. Boil pasta and put sausage mixture on top .... mmmmm ... I love it.
Sometimes you do see things when you are out and about. I was out cross country skiing down a track in a forest a few years ago, about 9pm and wanted to get a shot of my tracks behind me, I stopped, turned around and put the torch on the phone on, and opened the camera app. On the screen I could see something moving across the pathway. Nothing at all in front of my eyes however. Looked back at the screen, it was there, I could tell it had saw me and it went across the track and into the woods on the other side. Only way to describe it was like electric smoke. Unclipped the skis and ran out of the woods, then once out skis on and skied as fast as I could. As soon as I got in the house my wife looked at me and said "you've seen something, haven't you". Couldn't see it with the naked eye, could on the phone. I did record it but didn't feel good about keeping the recording. Still run and ski there now and not seem similar.
Getting old sucks. I've been dealing with peroneal tenosynovitis off and on for over a year. Finally getting physio. Nice to see you back out and hope all your health woes clear up.
Have you ever tried using collagen? I've had chronic knee pain ever since 2011, nothing really helped (physio, acupuncture, prescription drugs).........got a tub of collagen from Boots and the knee pain cleared up after a matter of weeks, no joke!
Omg the shadow standing by your tent is so so tall!! And totally black too.. it literally looks like a hooded person. something was definitely there. So cool. I’d love to see you camp there again! Imagine if you caught the figure again😮
@@lakota_stu he shows the clip at around 48:24 but the original video is called "Moment of TERROR waiting to see legendary GHOST ARMY" and it shows the whole journey and encounter, it's such an awesome video.
Oh dear...I feel like I need to tell you off! A old chap told me once....'you need to have a rest, you are no use in a coffin'. I should have listened him as when I 'couldn't have time off' I ended up with heart attack. The rest after that took me few years to get back to almost normal. So do look after yourself.....and it was nice to have you back and on the hills again...
Thanks for another enjoyable video. Happy New Year to you and all here. BTW- In case I haven't mentioned before, there's supposed to be another Ghost army, which marches along the fells; along 'Dunmail Raise' [Between Grasmere and Keswick.
Medic!!...Man down! Get well soon Glenn. I do share your frutration with the foot injury. I'm currently battling Plantar Fasciitis in my left foot. Hiking, for now, is impossible for me. It's painful walking to my local shop atm. Your videos are helping my spirits stay high, though! The weather for you in this one was absolutely beautiful. This walk is one I have planned and plotted, although the other way round. I think I prefer the direction you chose. Like others, my thoughts go out to the family and friends of the climber who fell and perished on Sharp Edge. 😔
Beautiful winter scenery. I love a peanut butter wholemeal wrap when hiking. I live in Brighton and swim regularly in the sea from April to October. I have swum in tarns in the Lake District, but only in summer.
Thanks Glenn, beautiful scenery, love the winter landscape, it added so much to the vlog. Hope the cold improves soon, a whisky before bed will help. As regards food on a hike, crumbly Lancashire cheese and Bartons piccallili hits the spot and if not, a pork pie will do, but it must be a good one, not a crappy supermarket effort. Take care & thanks again. Wishing you a fantastic 2025 & looking forward to being along for the hikes.
Fantastic video! As always filmed beautifully..... and to think as you looked across to Great Mel Fell, we were climbing that on the same day. What stunning views from that small fell. We decided to take a look following your video on how fabulous the views were and you weren't wrong. Looking forward to your next instalment. Keep doing what you're doing, its amazing!
Glad you had some lovely weather. I enjoy the variations of gray and blustery days, atmospheric and moody. Makes the great days even grander! Best wishes to you and Finn for the New Year!
Just to net u know me n my pal have just started to watch ur vids. Top class. Very well presented, edited and performed. Keep up the good work we enjoy thoroughly 👍👍👍
oh my goodness that is definitely something next to your tent. I believe in things like that. Great video - followed your route on OS maps for future reference
Hi I hope my suggestions helped to start healing your foot. Utube didn't like my wording lol. It took 4 trys to get my comment to send. I'm a CNA, I have a heel spur & a bunion. The Epsom salts & ointments should give U major healing. I wish U all the best. Please keep us informed of your progress. Sincerely from Great Falls Montana USA
Love the wintery scenery, a tad cold for a swim, all for a summer one.🤩 Take care of yourself, a hot whisky, lemon and honey last thing at night and then bed, it works wonders... Alien eggs and ghosts, scary! Honest, I believe you! Thanks Glenn, have enjoyed.
Newbie here, loved watching and listening while you explore! I’m from Georgia and I’m hoping one day I can see New England. I follow a few others from that side of the country and it is fascinating to watch! Stay safe 😍
When you point to a spot on the horizon and say, "I should be there in 15 minutes," my wife and I just look at each other and say, "For us, that's more like an hour!" Great video as always-you had us in stitches with the Alien eggs! Take care and stay safe.
Brilliant once again, Glenn. Beautiful with the white on the fells. Yes, I've been wild swimming in Tewit Tarn. With the views of Blencathra. It's got to be homemade sandwiches with roast chicken and avocado and a bar of something. I loved the black labs. Also, i have 2 myself. Thanks for your hard work for us, ethan though you were not feeling a 100% really appreciate it.
The people who don't, or can't believe what you saw... have not spent enough time alone, in the old places, the quiet places.. I have, and I do. What you saw was not from another planet, it was from here. It, they, have been here all along. The cairn is there at that spot, for a reason.
Another great video, whilst not everyones cup of tea the Northern fells are some of my favourite places to walk. I love the solitude of most of the area.
Could it be the Big Grey Man of Macdhui on his jollies down in Cumbria, or the local Sasquatch : ) Looks like a cracking day be up in the hills there, you'll have to try and do another camp out there sometime to see if you can get some more spooky footage
I came to the Lakes for the first time in November last year and stayed in Keswick. I absolutely fell in love with it. I’m not a fell walker by any means but I’ve booked to go back in June and I am really looking forward to your Skiddaw video as that would be an ambition to walk it. I will have my 16 month old Cavapoo with me so I’m hoping it would not be too much for her (although she might do better than me lol). Thank you for such great videos.
Just found your channel last night. I'm loving seeing the fells again. I live in Newcastle and haven't been over that way for a few years now since my husband passed. Thank you for the fabulous views, humour and the feeling of 'being there'.
Hi Glen, lovely to see this wonderful scenery. I'm still recovering from a bad chest infection and laryngitis so I have cabin fever but am a bit stuck! Your achilles problem may be due to a slight change in how you are walking. Have you got Morton's neuroma? A common problem with keen walkers and runners. It is fixable! As for wild swimming, cold water is good for injuries (not in winter but certainly great in summer, of which I have done). Hope you feel better soon ❤
The great views made up for the last few videos which had all the clag. Hopefully you went to the glorious sections of the northern fells during this week's sunny and frozen days. You should go back to some of the Wainwrights that were clagged in- Great Calva is definitely worth a return trip on a sunny day.
Hope you don't get too ill,the Lake District always looks magical in the snow, sadly in the South its mostly rain!Ghostly experiences are quite common in the area it seems and the Glen Rothay is supposed to be haunted and had personal experiences of it so don't think what happened to you is false.
Great video as always, been waiting for this one to come out since I was fortune to bump into you before the start of the walk. It was amazing conditions that day and we had some cracking views from the top of Blencathra. Hopefully next time I bump into you it'll be in the pub.
What we're seeing at 44:10 is typical of what you see when the weather and light are just right to show the outlines of ancient earthworks. Add to that the farms around it being Far, Near and Under Howe, and the hill between them being being How Top, and I'd lay money down that's an ancient howe, or burial mound, that just got forgotten. I guess the ghost army has to come from somewhere, right 😅
Thank you for the videos. I only get to go up into the lake district 2-3 times a year and your vids are a welcome escape from the mundane week to week. Keep doing them please mate :)
Love a winter picnic , either sandwiches or some sort of pot noodle type thing with plenty of coffee or hot chocolate. Never take a flask though. Always brew fresh on my little stove kit. Amazing views with that icy weather , well worth the effort in wintertime !
My Dad used to love hiking in the Lake District , i went a couple of times when i was younger, we'd always take some butties, pork pies, scotch eggs with us. His fav place was Tarn Hows, the Old Man of Conniston he hiked a lot. I've not been back to the Lake District in 21 years since he passed away, i would love to go back, such a beautiful place.
I’ve just had to pause the video and comment straight away because the drone footage on arrival at Bowscale Tarn and the music is simply breathtaking……my god I could be watching a Movie!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Incredible 😊
Loving your videos! I can no longer walk in the Lake District as I have multiple sclerosis, but watching you is a real trip down memory lane. Spent many happy years hiking all over the fells. Always reminds me of my late father who introduced me to the Lakes and was with me on most of my hikes. Will be visiting Langdale next month and can't wait! Will probably spend most of the time in the Old Dungeon Ghyl, remenising with a drink or three! Ann H
You do right ! Keep going ! The fresh air will do you good, your body's natural defence system will kick in. Nobody regrets cracking on 👍 i live in Cumbria, so i love my homeland ❤
Happy new year Glenn! Another great video but you forgot to mention the two immortal fish that are supposed to live in Bowscale tarn 🙂. Loved the winter wonderland scenery and being reminded about your previous Souther fell video. Very sad to hear about the accident on Sharp edge which made the North east news 😞 I hope you take care on the treacherous cliffs and crags of Mungrisedale Common when you summon up the courage to climb that infamous fell!
That is the CUTEST photo of a herdie ever!! I love it.❤ 🐑 they are so so cute! Everytime I see them on your adventures it makes me so happy. Beautiful photography!
Superb video, great to see some winter sunshine in the fells. Hard boiled eggs or scotch eggs are a must for me on any type of walk. Sainsbury's pork pies are another favourite hillwalking snack. Mini cheddars, snickers and nutrageous bars are normally in the pack as well. I've seen that video with the 'being' in it. At the time, I assumed you'd edited it into the video either for a laugh or for added effect, sounds like it was genuine though. There's definitely some kind of figure visible in the video. You seemed genuinely freaked out by it as well, I would've been!
I absolutely love your sharing of your world, your thoughts the stillness’s, the sights sounds and awesomeness of nature that I can never get to experience again now, walking was my life, my walk was my spirit flying, thank you so much, you lovely person for taking me on this adventure with you, and I’m only up to where “ The Robin is leading the way” old Owl 🦉 Alaya. We love this video, Glenn. Just around the corner from where we stay. A lovely walk on a cracking day of weather, finished off by that well- earned pint in The Mill. We always talk about The Spectral Army when on Souther Fell but we've never seen anything spooky. Never say never 😂😂 You filmed this a few days before we got up there for two weeks ( we got home yesterday) so we had a week of those winter conditions- did you manage to get out to enjoy them? Hope you felt well enough to do so. ATB Brian and Jill 😊😊
Welcome to 2025 Glen. Keep the beautiful videos coming, I’ve planned my first couple of adventures with loads based on your shared walks. It’s so good to have your expertise to use.

Don't you just love it when videos have a clear structure, calming commentary, picturesque interludes and overall high production value?

Medic!!...Man down! Get well soon Glenn. I do share your frutration with the foot injury. I'm currently battling Plantar Fasciitis in my left foot. Hiking, for now, is impossible for me. It's painful walking to my local shop atm. Your videos are helping my spirits stay high, though! The weather for you in this one was absolutely beautiful.
This walk is one I have planned and plotted, although the other way round. I think I prefer the direction you chose.
Like others, my thoughts go out to the family and friends of the climber who fell and perished on Sharp Edge. 😔
Thanks so much for revisiting this Glenn. It’s fascinated me since the first video.
Beautiful winter scenery. I love a peanut butter wholemeal wrap when hiking. I live in Brighton and swim regularly in the sea from April to October. I have swum in tarns in the Lake District, but only in summer.
Happy New year Glenn, nice to see you out and about again, hope your feeling much better now. Take care.......
House that camper going .😂
Thanks Glenn, beautiful scenery, love the winter landscape, it added so much to the vlog. Hope the cold improves soon, a whisky before bed will help. As regards food on a hike, crumbly Lancashire cheese and Bartons piccallili hits the spot and if not, a pork pie will do, but it must be a good one, not a crappy supermarket effort. Take care & thanks again. Wishing you a fantastic 2025 & looking forward to being along for the hikes.
Thank you for taking us on such wonderful walks xxx❤
You're quite right, that is a beautiful view 21:45 in. Take care matey.
Gorgeous scenery beautifully filmed and no constant outpouring of drivel, oh, and spooks too, what could be better. Loved it.
Just to net u know me n my pal have just started to watch ur vids. Top class. Very well presented, edited and performed. Keep up the good work we enjoy thoroughly 👍👍👍
Was the original "ghost episode" Finn's ears were up! Dogs sense when things are not right! that got me hooked on your channel, been here since 👌👍
You can do videos from home while you’re recovering, talking about all kinds of things: gear, geological history of these areas, etc.
oh my goodness that is definitely something next to your tent.
Great video as ever…. Fave food on a hike and only when on a hike is crab paste and salt and vinegar crisp butties!! Weird but I love em!! 😂
I'm new to your channel but I do enjoy the outdoors and hiking and seeing where all your adventures lead.
Thank you for sharing your journey
Absolutely stunning views.THANK YOU. I'm from Australia.
Just found your channel. Fabulous in every way that matters. Thank you, subscribed. Be safe hiking. Kiwi Linda, New Zealand. 🕊️🌝
Wow that drone footage at Bowscale tarn is incredible! You take care- a hot toddy and a good rest!
I recognise that face 😀 x
@@Ruthybette It must have been the Alien eggs and ghosts that brought you here 😆We know the truth don't we. XX
Newbie here, loved watching and listening while you explore! I’m from Georgia and I’m hoping one day I can see New England. I follow a few others from that side of the country and it is fascinating to watch! Stay safe 😍
Enjoying the Northern fell series. Counting down to Mungrisdale 😊
Could it be the Big Grey Man of Macdhui on his jollies down in Cumbria, or the local Sasquatch : )
Looks like a cracking day be up in the hills there, you'll have to try and do another camp out there sometime to see if you can get some more spooky footage
Great video as usual. Bowscale and Bannerdale are still ones I need to tick off and definitely going to follow your route.
Great story, creepy image. I'm amazed you stayed all night after that, even with your fierce guard dog!
Hi Glenn, another great vid.
In terms of fell food it's a meal deal typically but my mate, Kie, often treats us to about a kilo of homemade biltong!
Nice to see you back. Happy New year!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING ME WHERE I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO WALK (FRACTURED LITTLE TOE).
HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER AND GET WELL SOON 😊
Thoroughly enjoyed that, finishing with a good old giggle at you slipping 🤭 … it always pays to watch till the end 😂
I guess the ghost army has to come from somewhere, right 😅
Hi there. First time watcher here.Throughly enjoyed your hike, specially the spooky story. Thankyou. Look forward to watching another. 👋
Love your videos mate. You keep cracking on, cracking on!
Thank you for the videos. I only get to go up into the lake district 2-3 times a year and your vids are a welcome escape from the mundane week to week. Keep doing them please mate :)
Winter snack of choice is a piece of strong Cheddar followed by a large chunk of stollen. A mix of fats, plus simple and complex carbohydrates.
Great walk, looked quite precarious on the edge in some places, so glad you got your pint at the end 😊..hope your cold clears up soon.
That episode with the ghost is one of my faves! I’ve both seen and captured evidence using paranormal investigation, equipment, myself!
Totally enjoyed that, awesome icy adventure ❄️❄️❄️😎👍
Thanks for taking us with you!
UK
Such a great video. Excellent production, knowledge and shared info and really good photography. Came for the paranormal but stayed for the views.
I loved every moment. Thank you.
