The funny thing about Zuko’s character arc is that by its own design, it’s a recovery arc, not a redemption arc. From the moment we met him, Zuko was a decent person trying to be evil to satisfy his father. A man who sent him on an impossible mission as a way of disowning him after refusing to sacrifice other people’s lives for a quick battle advantage. Or in shorter terms, it was never about reclaiming his honor, it’s about realizing he was the only one who had any.
“He’s…really just leaving me here…he gave me his energy and…left me. Maybe this is a sign…maybe I should change…maybe this is, my second…and last…chance. Maybe…I was wrong… *NAAAH!”* -Lord Freezer
One of the biggest blunders in film/tv history is the failed redemption arc of Jaime Lannister in GoT. Bro was on track to make a huge change, but decided last minute to throw it all away. I wanted him to finish his arc so bad!
Was just thinking about this man, that scene in the hot spring or hot tub or whatever had me going where he was like “My names Jaime,” they fumbled absurd
I will never forgive the people who made Miraculous Ladybug Season 4 and Season 5. They gave Chloe, the main "High School Villain," who was not the main villain to Ladybug (rather Marinette's villain), so much development throughout Seasons 2 and 3. Chloe from the start was "the mean rich girl," but in S2 & 3, we saw that she was like that because her father was overcompensating for her mother's huge lack of presence in her life, her literally only having one real friend, Adrien (& Sabrina, but she treats her like dirt), who both end up leaving her in the end BECAUSE of her attitude. When she realizes how she fucked up, and not wanting to lose a childhood best friend (again, Adrien), she shapes up. Doing her best to start being a better person, even apologizing to those she wronged. She actually had a good road being paved for her to become a good person and not an antagonist (especially since thus far, at least in S1 and then on, she was the main reason for many, if not all, akumas), and with Lila making her debut in S1's finale, she would have had a replacement (and arguably better villain), who could take her place. But then Season 4 came out and they ripped all of her character development out from under her, giving all of it to THE WORST, MOST POORLY WRITTEN CHARACTER OF S4, ZOE LEE, HER HALF SISTER WHO DID NOT NEED TO EXIST. In my opinion, Zoe was everything Chloe was leading up to and could have been, if her redemption arc was completed, and all the misdeads she continued to do could have made way for someone else like Lila. While I do enjoy Zoe's small bit of development with the Mayor, they could have done that with Chloe instead and it would have made her so much better and matured her way more. Especially since all of this shows Superheros and characters ARE LITERALLY FRESHMEN IN HIGHSCHOOL/THIRTEEN TO FOURTEEN YEAR OLDS. Chloe could have finished her redemption arc and gotten the chance to show that she deserved to be Queen Bee again, but no, instead, we get off screen (non existent) "Character Development" for Zoe, who eventually gets the Bee Miraculous, becoming Vesperia. WHEN WE COULD HAVE STILL HAD QUEEN BEE AND BETTER REDEMPTION FOR CHLOE INSTEAD OF MAKING HER AN IRREDEEMABLE, WAR CRIME COMMITTING, TREASONOUS PERSON, LIKE GABRIEL!? LIKE WHAT. I have never been more upset about a character who made such progress, literal leaps and bounds, to be interesting, fun (albiet sometimes mean), and an overall better character, who is again, A FRESHMEN(!?) --or the French equivalent to whatever that may be--, who has to work on her relationships and herself to fix all of the problems she's caused before from Bully to Better, just to be tossed aside for her Half-Sister who should have never been made, and losing all that development, reduced to nothing more than plot device. They did my girl Chloe dirty and they did us, the audience, even dirtier. ☹️ I'm done with my rant now, sorry. 😔🙏
Justified feelings here. Should mention all this bs happened because Thomas Astruc (?) wanted Chloe to stay a bitch because of a bad experience with a mean girl.
Murphy from The 100 At the beginning of the series he is the typical scumbag, cruel and violent. Then by the end of the series, he became one of my favorite characters and he is kinda the only one from the main characters who does not commit some kind of genocide or any other atrocities. At times he is the only one who sees the bigger picture and acts a bit like a moral compass.
A character in an unfinished story of mine has a redemption arc but it’s more of a Hajime No Ippo style side character relevance revival since the world is basically a fighting game inspired sports story
been loving the videos bro, congrats on 10k!! Id love to see you make some longer videos diving deeper into each of these characters and similar topics of your other videos (20 min+). Keep up the great work bro
This video kinda makes me sad because if there’s one character I wish had been allowed to be redeemed, it’s Billy Hargrove from Stranger Things. Yes, I’m aware that he was an a-hole beyond reason due to beating up Steve and attacking the gang, but it’s hard not to break down knowing he had potential to become a better person, especially with the whole abusive father thing plaguing his whole life, and just never got the chance, just got schecabobbed by the giant tentacle spider goopy thing that is the Mind Flayer while trying to protect the very girl he had been brainwashed into kidnapping, and in his final moments he apologized to his stepsister whom he basically terrorized. Guy had so much potential to be redeemed yet he was killed before he could even start, unless you’re like me and believe that like Eddie Munson, he can return.
I will forever die on the hill that A-Train didn't deserve a redemption arc. If Kripke wanted to redeem him, he should've started to do it earlier in the series and not at the end of season 3, and expect us (and the characters) to forgive him for the horrific stuff he's done before that. I don't care how well people think his arc was written (which it wasn't), I hate the fact he got a redemption arc in the first place. And more than that, I think he should've been killed at the end of the season.
It took me a bit to remember, but I believe it's the old guy who Jet wanted to kill simply for being fire nation. Then Aang saves him, but the guy ends up kinda "betraying" them and telling the fire nation soldiers where to find them

At least he helped in the TOP. More than other villains can say (Goku Black, Cell).
@@joshuaagee-bass4049 give cell 20 minutes in the time chamber he better than freiza
In my opinion, Zuko’s big turning point was when he said he was angry at himself during the beach episode

All because of Dumb and Dumber *groans*
Jaime genuinely has the potential to have the greatest redemption arc ever written..... if only George actually writes that damn book!
A-Train has definitely improved himself
Can't stop the A-train baby
Bro putting out some of the best video essays on TH-cam rn. Consistency will grant you major success brother
Crossroads of Destiny was the first ATLA episode I ever watched and I was so confused when Zuko turned on Team Avatar😢
