    Nice work Fray! Loved the naturally Mother Nature tunes of spring too👏 what do you surmise is the reason for spawned out drop backs already?? In Grand Rapids but still kinda scares me a little... not gonna lie

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have reports of several Steelhead seen spawning in the creeks off the grand already... Water is still cold though I'm sure we have several weeks of great fishing ahead. Ohio streams warm up really easily so a warm rain will allow the fish to spawn for a few days just from that warm runoff.

    TOP 10! Just another great video as usual! Noticing the bead/roe bag you used are some bright colours, is it because of the water's been a bit muddy?

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The creek was pretty muddy that day, about 8 inches of visibility, so yea that explains the bright bead colors I chose

    That is cool, I once broke off about 10 seconds after hooking a steely. Tied up again, different colour roe bag, throw it in the same drift... ended up hooking the same fish by the roe bag from the previous hookup.

      @FishFray  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that's crazy! I catch quite a few fish with broken off hooks and jigs in their mouth from who knows when, even a crankbait in a fishes mouth last Thanksgiving! They are just plain hungry some days

      Fray, can I ask for any recomendations on what kind of flies to use in the spring season? I have had luck in the rabbit tail in the fall, just wondering if you would recomend anything for the spring season. Thanks!

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like size 10 egg patterns like glo bugs, sucker spawns, crystal meth etc. Or size 8 or 10 wooly buggers work great. Small nymphs too when the water is clear

  • @doctoredable
    @doctoredable 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video Fray. It does not surprise me that you may have caught the same fish twice within a few minutes. Downstream fish are hungry after their upstream run and spawn. They are basically much easier to hook than when they were running upstream on their spawning mission. I personally have not found fluorocarbon leader material to be helpful except in gin clear water. When I use it I expect to have lines breaking at the knot at the hook much more often that when I use similarly rated regular mono filament. What knot have you found the best to use with fluorocarbon? Personally I almost never use it after having several leaders break under minimal tension.

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had a lot of issues learning to fish flourocarbon leader due to abraision problems and knot strength as you mentioned. I've found the best knot for fluoro is a Snell knot with at least 5 or 6 wraps around the shank, I have never had a knot fail on a fish that way and the hook stands out nicely. Also important to wet your knot before tightening. I have used seaguar invisx with constant problems and many fish lost for awhile, after switching to blood run fluoro leader I do not have the same issues. It is a "harder" fluoro which makes it much more abraision resistant and I've never had issues with knot strength. I hope this helps, having fluorocarbon is definitely a confidence booster knowing that fish can't see your line.

    Huge fan of the channel Fray, sweet video. Also had a quick question on your float setup. What size and how many split shots do you use for an 8G Float? I usually use a 1/4 oz In-line weights or egg weight to bring down my presentation for an 8G float quickly, but for a more natural presentation, I really wanna try split shot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

      These fish run from Lake Erie which is known for having one of the smallest average sizes in the Great Lakes, our other lakes such as michigan produce some bigger fish in the 12-20 pound range.

    This so call fisherman leaves fish on the bank to remove protective film, hits spawning fish and Lol's it as he hits bed along with excess handling on spent weakened fish. If this review pisses you off I live in Strongsville and we can discuss this further.
