That corkie was an awesome tip. So was the double bobber stop tip. Saw a couple others doing same. Had to make my own but... No bobber stop fail. Used video today in Milwaukee River on the steelhead with egg sacks.

I’ve been bobber doggin from the bank now for 4 years now. I’ve caught them mostly on beads so far I’ve given worms a lot of effort also bobber doggin from the bank.

I use rubber bobber stops when float fishing they do not wear out, I also use the string sometimes when I want to be able to see it and adjust it quickly... I got a bag of like 500 rubber bobber stops for 10 bucks n they are 6 on wires coming off a plastic disks, just like the ones in store. I use them all the time. I use them also when setting up a bait loop on hook, once I out bait in loop slide stop down to hook. It will save a lot of bait, especially eggs... Also to hold corkeys when plunking or bottom bouncing eggs with a corkey inside. Anyway hope this helped someone..
I like to use a bit of a mono drop on my weight, the length will vary depending on the water colour. Longer in clear water and shorter in low vise. The mono drop is weaker than my mainline and stronger than my leader so I get most of my stuff back when I hang up. The drop rarely tangles and allows my presentation to get up off the bottom and into the strike zone.

Sweet video man! I would add this technique works great everywhere except when your fishing a river/hole with tons of big boulders/snags.
Unless of course you have endless $$ for gear and enjoy re-tying often.
I enjoy fishing rivers with a lot of structure. Bobber dogging seems like a recipe for frustration with all the potential for snags. I employ a much simpler method of fishing steelhead.

I use dacron backing and tie an Uni Knot. 6 to 8 wraps seems to work well.
What's the shallowest you'd recommend doggin? Assuming it's normal/green water, not muddied or gin clear
Would this technique work for walleye fishing in the river when they spawn in the spring. Here in Ohio we use an inline sinker with swivel at both ends with a leader and floating jig but encounter a lot of snags.

I live 5 miles from Lake Michigan but drive 1 hour north to get into good rivers for chrome.
Nail knot with flyline backing for bobber stops-don't have to retie everything
I use mono, have a bigger belly in the line, it pulls the hook into the corner of their mouth. As I real in the slack the fish tend to push upstream and hook themselves.

Question for the addicted team I see that while using a bobber dogging rig you allways use some form of fixed weight from my understanding in a way that can release so not to lose your setup but. In using that fixed rig you lose the sensitivity of a sliding weight so the question is could a Carolina rig work better for this and if worried about snags adding on a carp sliding tube for the weight so if there is a snag the weight pulls off but you still maintain the sliding action for the sensitivity

Trying to figure out when to bobber dog your float as opposed to just vertically floating bobber ? I’ve been putting pencil weight and my bobber stays vertical like I thought I wanted but.. unsure when and if to switch?

In my river every weight got snagged until I started making slinky weights from black paracord and bb round sinkers.
At The seven minute mark you talk about tying directly to the braid what is the braid?

I bobber dog from the bank and am successful doing it but I always run a mono bumper but would love to not haha ......you say you mainly tie your swivel to braid is there a “low and clear” point that you would use a mono bumper? Or are you always successful just using black sharpie on your braid?

I fish both baitcasters and spinning gear for bass and Im gonna give steelhead a try next season. Whats the benefit/disadvantage of baitcasters vs. spinning gear for steelhead? Im fishing Lake Erie rivers if that matters.
Bait casters work well with set ups that weigh 1/4 ounce or more. I use a spinning rod for my finesse technique: Swinging jigs that weigh 1/8 or 3/16 ounce. Too light for a bait caster.

I've used yarn for years to tie bobber stops.
ive wanted to try this type of fishing on my local river but theres guys that will cut your line if they see you fishing with a bouncing betty because to them thats snagging fishing not actually fishing :/

This is a really awesome intro to Steelhead Bobber Dogging. But, please turn the background music down or off completely. Too many years of playing drums in punk bands have made it difficult to separate the music, river noise and your voice. Accessibility counts!

It's like a dirty ugly version of what centerpin brought for precision. I can have 150 feet of floating on centerpin in the perfect zone. From this video you get very little room for exposing at the right depth. Half of the cast is wasted sadly. No go for me.
@@SleepHarbor this lets you pick apart a run. Rivers on the west coast have a lot of structure and getting a drift in the right trough is the difference between catching or not. You can’t just send a suspended float 150’ down and expect to be very successful here.
Could I use an inline weight instead of a three way swivel?
No. You need either 2 swivels to make a 3 way or an actual 3 way, I use 2 swivels to make a 3 way. You do that because your weight is along the bottom and the 3 way helps your leader and bait flair out downstream in front or your weight. If you used an inline weight your leader will be right in the rocks and would be dragging un naturally
Yes you can and has been done for years now people just aren’t talking about it.
A fixed weight on some instances are far less snaggy then hanging a weight off a three-way that can get wedged in Rocks.
Think of the two designs one had a ball and a stem that the ball will get caught in the rocks
The other
Has a torpedo shape that is tied at both ends it will run easier on sandy and sometimes rocky bottoms it will go up and over debris vs just getting wedged in the debris like ball weights will.
There are many things about bobber doggin that is held under wraps and aren’t being publicly blasted everywhere.
I know a few tricks I’ll take to my grave with me it’s been around for years and I still haven’t seen a single person pick up on it yet.
Anthony Rubeo this is bad info.... there is a difference between you can do it and you can do it (but it’s NOT ideal/smart)
You should NOT bobber dog with a in line weight, you damage your knot right away for 1, secondly your bait is not being presented properly if you use an inline weight

I typically make my own because I can choose the color patters I need! Plus it's fun to sit around and tie gear
@@peelthereel Nick...i don’t understand the presentation...so isn’t the float dragging the weight/bait?...meaning the first thing hitting the fish in the face is the weight/terminal tackle because the bait is UPSTREAM of the float? i’m a centerpin guy and am always making sure my bait is presenting itself first - downstream of the float..cuz the fish face into the current?
@@austinburger8916 the weight has more resistance (gravity at work) than the much lighter bait so the current will push the bait downstream ahead of the weight.

If you ever meet me on the river, you'll notice I go the simple route. Merely a jig for swinging. I need to minimize my frustrations, but still catch fish.
Ok i don’t understand how the presentation works!!!! so the float is dragging the weight and bait....meaning the float is DOWNSTREAM and the bait is dragging behind it...so wouldn’t the weight be the first thing the fish sees? because the fish are facing into the current? I’m a centerpin guy and am always making sure my bait is presenting its self AHEAD of my split shot and float
Your scenario of the bait presented first is still the case here. The bobber and the bait are down stream of the weight, where the bobber is pulling the weight down stream. The bait is down stream of the weight, pulled by the current too.
Correct. The bait is significantly lighter than the weight and moves fast. The weight is like an anchor that slowly drags the bottom.
