You are right. John Lennon was human and made mistakes. He did not deserve to be shot and killed by a maniac. He will always be a big music influencer. Both as a Beatle and solo artist.
What a Nice surprise. I'm Brazilian as well and I really like your reactions. Keep doing The Beatles. It's a great journey. Songs very different from one another. They changed music and society as well. Greetings from Rio!.
John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980, just three days after he told Rolling Stone magazine, "Give peace a chance, don't shoot people for peace. All we need is love. I believe it" RIP John, the greatest Liverpudlian of all time.
In the hit TV mystery series LOST, there was introduced a new character in the 6th season. He had no name apparently, but most fans simply called him "Lennon" since he closely resembled the famous Beatle with his long hair and round glasses. His official title was "The Translator" since he had to translate the Japanese language of the leader whenever he spoke. The actor playing Lennon has a first name and its "John" as in John Hawkes.
Living with and knowing people, sharing bedrooms 24/7 for weeks, months and years will more often than not cause at times friction, resentment and anger towards each other and trouble for the band . Magnify this many times with the Beatles being the biggest thing on the planet with media scrutiny everywhere, would for many be to much at times. I like George Harrison's line when asked about the hysteria and the dynamics of the band. "It was not the band that went mad but the world"
Yoko was just one factor in the breakup of the Beatles. It was inevitable, but John's insistence of having here present for most of the recording sessions, and often trying to participate, added more tension. It may have drove the band apart quicker, but in the end it would have happened. Ultimiately, by the mid to late seventies, until his murder in 1980, Yoko was a positive influence on John's life. His first marriage was a disaster to try to keep together in the middle of the Beatle's popularity, he hardly knew his first son Julien, and once he split with her his life was spinning out of control. The late 60's drug scene didn't help him, and he was a wreck when he met and eventually married Yoko. All was not right with him right away, however, even after the Beatles broke up. In the early 70's they separated for more than a year (the infamous "Lost Weekend"). When they got back together, their relationship and his stability improved greatly. He had a son with Yoko (Sean) and even started to re-establish a relationship with his first son. During this time in the late 70's John dropped out of public life. He wasn't recording or performing, he tried to devote himself to his family. By 1979-1980 he started writing again and recorded what would become the Double Fantasy album, released right before his death. This story makes the tragic events in December 1980 all the more said, happening just as he seemed to be getting his life together.
"The Ballad of John and Yoko" is a great song by The Beatles (obviously written and sung by John Lennon) which doesn't tell the story of their romantic relationship, but sheds light on how crazy it can be/was for them to be in the spotlight all the time as a celebrity couple at the time. Random Beatles videos suggestions that are SUPER FUN to watch: "Hello Goodbye," "I Feel Fine," and "Let it Be" (With a great guitar solo from George!). Also, ANY "Ed Sullivan" performance, to see how crazy the female fans went for them, lol!
Yoko didn't break the Beatles up. The others found her annoying but they had all been drifting apart for some time. Sad a man who sang of peace and love died so violently.
The Canadian band, The Bare Naked Ladies did a humorous song called "Be My Yoko Ono". They're not fans of the theory that Yoko broke up the Beatles. They did however get Yoko's approval to do a music video for the song at the urging of Sean Lennon.
Steph Few years before his sad and violent in 1980, John Lennon was playing and recording few demos for a possible song on that piano. Then it happened in Dec of 1980, Mark David Chapman shot Lennon front of his home in New York. Many years later in the 90's, John's widow, Yoko handed a cassette of those demos to Paul McCartney during an event see if he can do something with them. All surviving members of Beatles: Paul, Ringo, and George before his death in 2001 were doing a compilation albums called Beatles Anthology. I believe that they were able to clean and edit few of the song of Lennon, but one. I think that technology in the 90's was not advance enough for this particular song. Many more years, Peter Jackson of Lord of Rings fame was doing new documentary on the Beatles. Now this particular song was the focus for this project. In 2022 or 2023, technology for audio is advanced for this process. Paul & Ringo worked with Peter and son of their manager, George Martin to finish this song. Without boring technical stuff, song is called "Now and Then" making as final Beatles' song. I am going to spoil for you. Watch the video.
The Beatles were breaking up with or without Yoko. She (her presence) just facilitated it. Imagine is my favorite work by John. Iconic. Thanks for reacting to it.
Nice to see your channel ... great song to do ! I'm in California, but my mom was born in Curitiba ! I lived in Rio, a long time ago. Subscribed ! Boa Sorte !
Yoko is a multimedia artist. She spends most of the video opening the shutters to let in the light. A symbolic accompaniment to the message of the song.
This is one if not my favorite songs, because yes I’m a dreamer, who really wishes life could be like this. I do think a world without religion would be more peaceful, so many people have died because of religion over centuries. Many cases it has brought greed & hate. I’d love to see a world without wars & hate, & filled with love & peace. No everything wouldn’t have to be perfect, just so much better for everyone, no matter who they are.
John had some incredible solo music and this might be his best and most famous solo tune. For another that is totally different but another classic, try Cold Turkey, a raging rocker about addiction that blew a lot of minds back in the day. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎤🎹🎶🔥
You are right people are people it is not what you are it does not matter what race, religion, gender or politics you subscribe to it is who you are and in general most are compassionate loving human beings it is only those that cause greed, division and hate that bring out the worst in humanity.
I couldn't agree more. They were long on there way to breaking up. They didn't like Yoko but she had nothing to do with them breaking up. You should check out The White Album for your self. A true masterpiece.
A song filled with laughably naive aspirations that you still can't really argue with in the end. As Humanity flirts with nuclear death in Ukraine and the Mideast, we must, as the poet W.H. Auden said in "September 1st, 1939," "love one another or die."
The idea that yoko broke the Beatles up was mainly formed by the idea that women ruin great men’s career. Believe it or not yoko helped john right this song and many others, they were a great duo regardless of their individual actions
Boa tarde. I'd suggest Lara Fabian a belgian-canadian singer and composer. She has two native languages: french from her belgian father, italian from her sicilian mother. She's also fluent in english from her grand father on mother's side and finally spanish that she studied in Spain. She's well known in Brazil. The song that I would suggest is ADAGIO. She wrote it first in italian and later made an english version. She sings in twelve languages in all. She is a master class, a power house. Meus melhores cumprimentos from la ville de Québec, Canada. 😀😃🙂😊😉
Essa musica é lendaria ! John tem muitas musicas excelentes, principalmente quando fazia parte dos beatles que valem a pena voce conferir. Algumas sugestões : In my life, Iam the walrus e Across the Universe. Abração de um BR para outro.
Yoko has had to put up with a lot of shiz man. Only the Beatles could kill the Beatles. Actually, Yoko is kind of an inspirational figure in terms of grace and strength in the face of hatred.
Haha No, Yoko did NOT break the Beatles up...technically it was Paul (he made the first legal move)..but really they're ALL (J P G and Ringo) responsible.
если бы американское правительство больше слушали Леннона может быть и не было войн и хаоса во всём мире , всем адекватным людям привет из России с наилучшими пожеланиями .✌
Part of the public blame of Yoko for the Beatles' breakup falls at the feet of how the band was presented to the public since Brian Epstein became their manager. They were portrayed as good and respectable young men who didn't try to rock the social or political boat. When Yoko entered John's life, it looked to most as if she was being a bad influence on him, causing him to rebel - to say and do things he never would have done before. Before Epstein, they were edgier and harder, ready for a fist fight if they needed to. John was always the rebel and living within the confines of the rules of being a Beatle was difficult for him. The truth is that The Beatles were street kids who grew up in the roughest parts of Liverpool. Epstein simply polished their image to make them more acceptable to the general public. It worked incredibly well, coupled with the fact that they were also amazingly talented. John's behaviour with Yoko was more of him now having permission to be himself instead of pretending to be the 'lovable mop top' he had to be while in the band. What the fans saw as suddenly becoming weird was actually John feeling free to be who he always was. That said, it's also true that the other Beatles felt Yoko was an intruder. Before her, no one was allowed into recording sessions except the band and the studio staff. Suddenly, here's this woman who acts oddly and seems to be constantly glued to John's side. He becomes addicted to heroin, begins behaving erratically, and says things that are even more nasty than usual. It wasn't hard for the other members to see a connection between Yoko and John's new attitude. At the same time, since Brian Epstein's death in 1966, Paul had taken it upon himself to become the group's leader. Unfortunately, his perfectionism and personal vision for the band often caused friction between him and the other members. Paul was often far too critical of George and Ringo's playing, even down to telling them exactly what they should be playing. George was also rapidly becoming a gifted songwriter, rivalling the status quo of Paul and/or John. He found it frustratingly difficult to get his songs heard, let alone accepted. Yet George also wrote some of the greatest songs of the late Beatles period. Yoko wasn't responsible for the breakup of The Beatles. It was just that time for them and each needed to break free of their cocoon and show the world they could make it on their own merits. Steph, for a couple of beautiful George Harrison Beatle songs, please check out Something or While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Masterful songwriting!
Hi Steph. Please take a look at "Silly Love Songs" by the group "Wings". It's the group of Paul Mc. Cartney, the lead singer of "Hey Jude", after the Beatles split up. By the way: I really like your videos because they are honest!❤❤
John wanted Yoko in the studio with him near the end of their time as "Beatles" and so now, the Beatles were no longer just the four of them in the studio working on songs. They were the Beatles ...plus Yoko which upset the vibe. There were other problems as well, so one cannot put the blame completely on her.
"Imagine" is iconic but I like more "Woman", George Harrison have a lot of great songs but I recommend you "My sweet lord" and "What is life" and about Ringo I recommend you "Photograph" and "Liverpool 8".
A really great song by a really great man. You have heard the original .....how about reacting to a cover of this great song performed by 4th Impact . I am sure you have reacted to 4th Impact before. They are 4 sisters from the Philippines with amazing harmonies. They sing this song mainly accapella, with just a guitar in the second part of the song. A really great cover of an iconic song.
The Beatles split mainly because of 3 of the Beatles wanting Alan Klien to manage the group, and Paul did not. Alan Klien had just ripped off the Rolling Stones out of millions, and he didn't want that for the band. Through the legal proceedings of Paul suing the other 3 Beatles, and the fact that they were together since 1957/58 they were tired of playing with the same people all the time.
The way the people have been treating Yoko since over fifty years to the point of even brainwashing newcomers to the Beatles and Lennon's music is really the dark side of the fandom. Of course she wasnt perfect, had her issues, but everyone does. Some fans don't realize she was a muse to him and we wouldn't have had a lot of his greatest songs without her. This very song, Imagine, probably his most iconic, was largely inspired by one of her poems !
As an older guy I find the message of this song not convincing anymore. I loved it when I was younger... but getting older... I notice how complex reality is. Huge anonymous civilizations have a huge problem to deal with power. Power emerges automatically - and we dont quite know how to handle it. Democracy is a good starting point although the most important about democracy is not voting but balance of power by different power instances that control each other. In the end... power has to be controlled. And this will only work if we want more control amongst each other. But also as indivual beings we have so many issues. Almost every person needs sometimes psychological help in their lives in some period. Many reject it. Lennon himself could have used some good therapy. We still have to learn a lot to create a peaceful world. Learn about ourselves. About our psychology, about sociology and especially about economics. The economy is running on ideological assumptions that are 100 years and older - and we really need to change our economical behaviour a lot. When I watch many young people, like you, I am rather optimistic that it will be possible. You are smart, empathic and interested in the world. You try to connect with other people in a positive way and try to spread positive messages. This is an important element. You are part of the new generation of digital natives. I am part of the generation who failed to start huge changes in the 1990s and 2000s. The last 3 decades we could have done so much more. I really hope that your generation will be much smarter than mine and somehow... I really do think so. You have the chance to be part of the generation who create a better world. I wish you so much that this is gonna happen 🙂
A beautiful hedonist - marxist song .... Not heaven, not religion,o not possessions.....by the way He used to beated her up many times.... and cheat....
It's a beautiful vision of the world, but unfortunately it's not very realistic. John Lennon also has a credibility problem when he sings about "no possessions" and is a multimillionaire at the same time. The band "Steely Dan" responded to this song with their sarcastic song "Only A Fool Would Say That".
@@GeorgeSams-p9c They did not like her in studio , by breakup was happening if she was there or not . She may of just accelerated timeline of it happening but no way was the cause !
@@GeorgeSams-p9c watch TH-cam video Who does Paul McCartney blame for Beatles breakup . Like I said , was starting long before she was in scene if you know Beatles history .
Yoko haters simply cant get over the Beatle breakup. 1st off, they are ignorantly wrong. 2nd, they cannot name a single thing she has done since the breakup. She has a beautiful soul, has done nothing but good, in and for, our general society, and the world we live in. She , flat out, was the best thing that ever happened to John, period. And still the haters cant, or wont, forgive her for something she never did. I'm 76, so I was 20 when the group broke up. I also was under the delusion that it was Yoko. But over time I was fair enough with myself to the truth.
Hi Steph, I enjoy your videos, but reacting to a song you remember is not a good idea. There must be thousands of great songs you have never heard that you could react to. Im sure your popularity is because of your genuine, spontaneous reactions.

The airport in Liverpool is named after John Lennon, and on some of the the signs it says “above us only sky”.

most john lennon song I have heard is 'Watching the Wheels' its his best imo
Ironically months before he was shot in the back five times he bought the entire New York city police department bullet proof vests.😮
Yes this song was written with the plastic ONO Band which he formed after the Beatles broke up

この女性、大変きれいな方だか、特に目とか目と眉の感じから、東洋の血が入っているように見えるが、どうだろう?
I love the song but there is an irony of someone singing about no possessions in his multi million dollar house.
yoko was his girlefriend, all rock stars decided they want to be with a partner an dnpot be in band for their whole life
This song hides a message between the lines than only clever people can read
A beautiful hedonist - marxist song .... Not heaven, not religion,o not possessions.....by the way He used to beated her up many times.... and cheat....
This song is played at 528 hz , healing frequency. It was banned on most radio stations.
other good songs are God , watching the wheels, Xmas war is over, mind games, come togheter (beatles song)
It's probably a toss up between religion and tribalism and/or some combination of that has caused the most wars and murdering of millions of people.
Still better than the one world tyranny that's coming.
Yoko actually wrote this
😄
It's a beautiful vision of the world, but unfortunately it's not very realistic. John Lennon also has a credibility problem when he sings about "no possessions" and is a multimillionaire at the same time. The band "Steely Dan" responded to this song with their sarcastic song "Only A Fool Would Say That".
Lennon himself described “” imagine” as comunist candy
And then he gets shot to death 😢
His idea of utopia. Needless to say, it didn't catch on.
Paul said on an interview that Yoko was the reason for the break up of the band.
Not true . The breakup had started long before she appeared and they all started doing their own thing .
@@hillardschlachman6610 so macca doesn't know ? But you do! OK then.
@@GeorgeSams-p9c They did not like her in studio , by breakup was happening if she was there or not . She may of just accelerated timeline of it happening but no way was the cause !
@@hillardschlachman6610 you know more than Paul? You're good! He was there!!!!!!
Imaginar não ter posses, não ter religião e viver em paz nos anos 70?! Muita gente não gostou. Muito "subversivo". Ainda mais no EUA.
This song should be the worlds anthem. If everyone would adopt the lyrics of this masterpiece maybe this world wouldn't be in such a bad place.
One would have hoped that as you are reacting to this wonderful song by John Lennon you might be able to spell his name correctly?
Ease up, That's not what John Lennon would want you to say.
I just wish people would lay off Yoko. You can’t help who you fall in love with.
no sound?
Hi Steph, I enjoy your videos, but reacting to a song you remember is not a good idea. There must be thousands of great songs you have never heard that you could react to. Im sure your popularity is because of your genuine, spontaneous reactions.
This is not here!
