      Ohhh, this looked like so much fun! I loved your heavier weight fabric, but her flows better and I love that color! But those are see through...
      Your Collab was 😊 fun, and I've discovered a new sewy video creator to watch ✅
      Oh, and paper smells, plus harder ash- most likely viscose/linen. Wool smells like hair!

    "I could walk away and my pants would stay where I was!" It's 9pm, I'm out in my garden watching this, laughing my head off and neighbours & other half think I'm nuts. I'm so with you on the whole belt loops thing. The trousers (sorry, can't bring myself to call them .....pants.......= knickers if you're a Brit) look amazing. Good trick with the fake fly opening. I've been sewing for over 5 decades now and I can still learn something new. I have to wear a badge when I sew, saying "I sew therefore I swear". If my other half hears a few choice words, he knows to either offer me tea or wine. Can't wait for your next project.

    "I hope Michelle is struggling with this as well" oh THANKS! 😂
    Your whole project was so much more calm than mine, the absolute difference it makes when you're not using slippy fabric and you own a rotary cutter and your iron works...these are my new sewing goals. EXCELLENT PANTS! I also am just swooshing around the place now, not sure I can ever go back to wearing jeans tbh.
    I had a feeling you might go with heavier fabric than the recommended, I was too much of a chicken but it's good to see that actually it works totally fine. Linen version here I come!

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What does it say about me that I didn't read any of the fabric recommendations and just did what I wanted? 🤫
      But these MUST be made in linen!

    awesome pants! Well done! Yeah the whole sewing thing is 5% at the machine is so right. But doing the other 95% of the things means the project comes out better! I was so much happier with the outcome of things when I started pressing all my seams and doing the other prep stuff!

    Well, I watched both videos and I'm torn. I like your pleats much more and I really like the belt loops a lot. I like Michelle's slash pockets and her attempt at French seams. I really like a finished seam, especially on loosely woven fabric. I think I ultimately liked yours a little bit better, but it was a close call.

    I’ve somehow landed here because I think my phone heard me cursing at the pants I’ve been attempting to draft and sew for holiday gifts this year, and also I follow Rachael Maksy and Bernadette Banner. I’m new to your channel and I’m already a subscriber. I came for the secret pants and I stayed for your sense of humor.

    Love this. You did very well! Grown up clothes are so hard. (I stopped making my kids things when they started having darts in the patterns. Lol)
    Quick question for anyone: when did pattern weights become a thing? I was taught to pin the pattern to the fabric way in Home Ec back in 1981 so weights confuse me.

    • @rosemariepagano5340
      @rosemariepagano5340 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Weights? Say what?!

    • @craftymystic4868
      @craftymystic4868 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve had the same pattern weights since the late 70’s. Don’t know the answer to the question tho. I imagine as long as sewist have been making clothes even with their own created patterns before the paper patterns came out

    • @madammoehre
      @madammoehre 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it just won’t destroy your printed paper patterns as much. but there probably no official rules to what to hold your pattern in place with. :)

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I get SO LAZY about pinning so I just use weights. It's definitely less accurate but nothing I'm doing requires such exact measurements that a little cutting slip will be noticable. Maybe when I start making more tailored stuff...??

    • @Lela-plants
      @Lela-plants 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rosemariepagano5340 Everyone I watch make something these days uses weights, stones, etc to hold down the pattern onto the fabric. I was taught to pin it.

    I just made these pants, and they're so great! I'm very much a beginner, so I'm so happy that they've turned out looking as good as they do. I just need to fix the zipper because it was my first one, and it wasn't too great.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pattern is such a good base for high-waisted pants, too! By taking in the sides and adjusting the pleats, I can get different styles and silhouettes pretty easily. And they make great elastic-waist pants, too

  • @amakerwitch

    “This fabric unravels faster than the end of a Stephen King novel” made me laugh all the way out loud.
    Duuuuude those are so cool!!! I keep hearing people talk about this pattern. I just downloaded another Helen’s Closet pattern (Cameron - the button up shirt because I like punishing myself). Also, that is a legitimately good tip for waist measuring, and something I will start doing. Most of the pants and skirts I’ve done have been elastic waist all the way around, but I really wanna try my hand at a fixed waistband.
    Anyway these look so good and cool! Way to go!! ULTIMATE PANTS REDEMPTION.

    COOL Lahts! Wow they look fantastic Katie! Good for you. I really love the pattern and would consider making them knee length as a skirt for myself. I also grew up in the olden times when pinning meant using real pins. I do like the new fangled weights and the creative things sewists use like rocks and metal washers. Nice job! You are inspiring Katie and funny too.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My lazy genes kick in when it comes to pinning so weighing it down just feels so much faster. More accurate...no. but definitely faster. 🤣

    Came over from Michelle's video, and there is definitely a similar vibe, which is fun. Both of your pants are freaking fabulous, so the winner is clearly Helen from Helen's Closet. I have made a couple of pairs of Winslow Culottes myself, but you can never have enough. Congratulations on 1,000 subs! That's a huge milestone. I'll add myself to that count now! 😁
