    It’s a long trip from the cam cover to the rod bearings. Those shavings have to go through the pickup, oil pump and filter before they start wiping out bearings. I don’t think I’d sell an engine rebuild until it’s necessary.

  • @dontaylor2099
    @dontaylor2099 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man you are correct about everything you've said EXCEPT anyone has got to at least try to just replace the pump and tappet first before completely giving up on the engine. If it has clearly been neglected it will surely shorten it's life, but it may run for years, or it may tear up on the way home. While these problems are definitely caused by neglectful owners, mechanics that insist on telling customers that assuming the worst possible outcome is the only way to deal with an issue are not being helpful. What well informed person would not try to just fix the problem and change oil and see if not too much other internal damage has been done? If there is already an oil pressure issue then it's too late. If there's already other issues related to neglect like turbo or timing issues, then it might be time to consider giving up on the engine, otherwise it would be reasonable to spend the modest amount to replace the pump and tappet before considering spending thousands on a new engine.

      Thank you for your feedback. I will say, the vehicle has definitely not been neglected because I'm a firm believer in preventative maintenance and not reactive maintenance. That said, I have planned to look at the high pressure fuel pump as well since I would only take a few extra moments to rule out after inspecting.

    I own one of these in a 2017 year model. I do follow a strict maintenance program. I heard someone say they recommend replacing that cam tappet under the fuel pump at around 60K miles. Is that something you recommend, or is frequent oil changes good enough to prevent this issue?

    haha.. I think of you as Mr. 1.5L ecoboost now :) She was lacking common sense.. cars today are pretty idiot-proof with OLMs and tire pressure monitors and super long intervals for coolant and plugs. But you still have to follow some basic rules like checking the oil and coolant levels once a month, and not driving the thing like a fiend when it's 5 degrees out and not warmed up yet. Keep up the great videos!

    I have a 2016 Ford Fusion with a 1.5 l engine. 173,678 miles, with a new timing belt less than a week old. After getting it out of the shop and driving it for about a hundred miles it began to hesitate or misfire going up hills, or any sudden acceleration. It hasn't threw a hard code, but my mode 6 data logged 21 misfires on cylinder 6, and three misfires on cylinder 3. Needless to say I had replaced the coils on the cylinders as well as all the spark plugs. That said, it still misfires under a load. The long-term fuel trim is positive 7 roughly and the short term for you trim fluctuates between 0 and -3, which I believe as well within specs. At one point I received a P025A which I believe is
    Fuel pump module control circuit open. So any guidance you can give me concerning the Diagnostics and troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The info dont match up
      It's a 4 cylinder you gave me a misfire count on cylinder 6 but there is no cylinder 6

      Thank you so much for your quick response. I don't know how I typed 6 when it should have been cylinder number 2. To make matters worse the number two on the keyboard/keypad is nowhere near 6. • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is you can change the camshaft now and pay all the labor to do that but what's going to end up having later is it's going to come back to bite you because you have metal in the oil and even though you think you got it all out you're probably not getting it all out and now that metal is inside that engine unfortunately you're going to have to have a oil cooler flush done the right thing to do would be putting a new long black in that vehicle

    So I have a 2016 Ford Fusion 1.5 Ecoboost that is making a loud knocking/tapping noise coming from the high pressure fuel pump and the acceleration of the car is so slow, not safe to drive.
    I put a new head gasket on the car and put it all back together, the car ran fine with no abnormal noises, but has slow acceleration, I changed the fuel pressure sensor and it ran great and had the original acceleration.

    I bought a 2013 fusion 2.0 ecoboost with 110k miles. I’m not sure it was maintained well enough and I’d like to replace the tappet bucket and o ring on the HPFP haven’t worked on high pressure fuel lines before so I’m procedurally ignorant about de pressuring the system, finding BDC on the crankshaft, what parts to not reuse (bolts, high pressure fittings). Any advice or tutorials you could recommend. I figure I’d try before taking it to the dealer? Thanks!

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've seen people reuse everything and only replace the bucket and be completely fine
      but by the book, you replace the bucket, the high pressure fuel line, the screws that hold down the high pressure fuel pump, the O-ring for the high pressure fuel pump.
      But really I've seen people just pull high pressure fuel pump up take a magnetic pocket screwdriver pick the bucket out, take the new bucket put some oil around it put it back down in the hole, put the high pressure fuel pump back nice and easy making sure the surface is clean, and then replace the fuel line on it and just snuggle up nice and snug a little bit past where it was before but not going crazy and start up and monitor
      To pull it off you don't have to do anything crazy
      You just take each screw and you unscrew it a little bit by little bit on each side and just lift the pump nice and easy pull up and out.
      And then you can take the old bucket out look down inside and you can see where the cam was at and you just have to turn the engine to get it to go back down a little it's not going to be perfect and then you just nice and easy snug your bolts backup
      I've seen guys do it without even running the cam back down to where they had it.. just slowly tightening the bolts up without damaging anything
      It's super easy, just all depends on how you want to do it and I can't really do another tutorial with as many videos as I already have out on this motor unless something comes in so you could be waiting for a long time.

    Used cars are a big risk. It is not like a panther where you could let oil changes slide a bit. Turbos and HPFPs really need to be maintained with top quality oil. I think even the OCIs on the trip computer are too long.

      yeah I agree.. I know you get a lot of value out of buying a used car, and if you know what you are doing you can find a good one, but there is definitely risk there for the average person.

    I have 2015 ford escape it shuts off if I drive 28 miles just dies no codes on dash have had it put on machine no fault code shows up has only 10000. Miles has been oil changes it shuts down 4 times then it clears out can get back home sometimes it doesn't do this.

      You're going to have to check the fuel pump driver module or the fuel pump itself more than likely but with no codes to go off of I can't give you anything more than that

    One of my customers has a 2018 Ford Fusion with the 1.5L ecoboost. It has a loud knocking noise at idle that goes away when you increase the engine speed. It sounds to me like connecting rod knock. Have you ever encountered this noise on a Fusion or Escape with this engine? And if so, what's causing it?

    After the pumps are replaced does the computer need to be reset with a scan tool? And if the bucket is chewed up, how do you get the metal shavings out? Will it need a complete tear down? Thanks in advance.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once you get metal shavings in there you can try to flush it as best as you can but you're not going to probably get all the metal out and your you're on borrowed time
      There's no real good answer for anything other than tear down or replacement

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว

      At the moment I don't it's in one of my videos where I talk about the 1.5 L coolant intrusion build you can look through the part numbers on one of my videos and find it I'm currently busy during the day so whenever people ask me specific questions like this I can't answer them right away and I'm definitely not going to walk all the way across the building to get one single part number and then come back you have to remind me first thing in the morning not in the middle of the afternoon

    Great video. I love professionals like you that ain't scared to speak your mind. On the other hand, I despise these little freaky internet "mechanics" and their quick and dirty solutions.
    Go play a game and leave it to the pro's, internet "mechanics". People with decades on the job will run rings around your monetized tripe.

    I have a 2013 fusion and I found the same problem the bucket has a whole in it and took the cam valve cover off and has black slushy oil only underneath that fuel pressure pump. What should I do next to fix this? Also everything Ike I start the car in the morning blue smoke comes out does this have anything to do with it?

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably have little metal shavings in your oil

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're going to have to flush that engine as best as you can
      You're going to have to get a new bucket, New oil and filter and you're going to need a new valve cover gasket
      Change everything while you're there but to be honest with you anytime you get in metal in the oil you cannot get it out of the engine 100% and you're on borrowed time so who knows how long the cars going to last could be one month could be two years could be 20 years
