What You Should Know before Buying 2015 Ford Fusion "Common Problems"

  • In this video I just wanted to go over a few things you should consider before buying a Ford Fusion. This vehicle has the 1.5 L turbo engine in it and the customer was complaining of a check engine light and poor performance.
    We found the high pressure fuel pump and cam follower had worn into the camshaft causing this car to need the engine replaced due to metal inside the motor along with other issues that direct-injected vehicles have.

    VW/Audi had this issue on their older FSI engines. They fixed it on the TSI engines by putting a roller on the end of the cam follower and made the cam itself have 4 lobs instead of 2.

    Haven’t really messed with too many of these so maybe you’ve seen this before, right now I’m dealing with a 2015 2.0 turbo came in with a dead mis cylinder one and a P0299 turbo boost undercharge, went through the typical diag and came to discover cylinder one had zero compression and the leak down test showed 100 percent blow by coming out of the intake, going to pull the valve cover tomorrow to see what’s going on with the intake valves but maybe you’ve seen this issue before? Also would the P0299 be on because of the no compression or is it possible something happened with the turbo first that then caused the cylinder one problem?

Replaced with a new one from rock Auto... Very impressed with performance now as well fuel pump definitely making a little more pressure... You just saved my engine and ass! I have the 2016 Fusion with this 1.5 Ecoboost. I had engine light with decreased performance yesterday. Checked the vvt intake solenoid and the screen on the end had bits of junk all over it. Cleaned it off and it's running better. But what likely caused it? Metal from a fuel pump issue that you talked about here? Or powder from the recent induction service? Also I just now noticed oil in the intake tube. It looks to be entering from a small tube that connects to it. This car was running great and had no blow-by before I took it to the dealer. Could they have botched the induction service?

    My 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium had a recall on the safety door latches and they were replaced in 2018 by a local dealer. Its been 18 months since the latches were replaced and while driving to work my door flew open while driving..I pulled over & walked to the passenger side front door and tried to close it..The door bounced back open..The safety latch (which was recalled and fixed) the recalled part broke..
    I took it to the dealer Coccia Ford in Plains Twp. PA. Frank Dominick the service manager states Ford only gives you a 12 month warranty on a recalled part..This seems ridiculous and it also cost me $279.00 to be exact..I called Ford Service and they don't care!
    I've owned cars for over 35 years and not one of them I had to worry about the door opening while driving..I'm done with Ford

    So I rebuild these almost every single week I am a Master Tech for a Ford dealer I've never seen one of these buckets for the high pressure fuel pump wear out when customers do general maintenance and they keep up with it
    Now what makes me say that is the amount of tarnishing in the color of that oil and on the parts
    When I have customers that show up at the dealer for their schedule oil changes and they keep up on their service never does this happen but the engines that I do see that come in with this tap it issue here are the ones that don't keep up on their maintenance

  • @JasPlun
    @JasPlun 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What you need to know is every vehicle brand has its common issues. Number 1 culprit for failures such as this is bad maintenance and how the car was driven. That being said I own a 2015 Fusion with the 2.5l engine and I would not recommend one from my own experience with ours. Ours at 22k miles had a cracked head in 3 places that flooded the engine and left us stranded. They repaired it under warranty and we had good luck for 2 years. Now at 50k miles the damn thing has a misfire on cylinder 3 and so far I changed plugs, put new ignition coils on and still misfiring so I am down to it is a bad injector or something going on with the PCM. Still have not resolved this issue as of yet. If you have come across this issue with the 2.5l engine let me know what your findings were thanks:P

      I've owned both, the 2.0 EB is an excellent motor. Yes there are a few videos and negative comments but when you consider how many are on the road, issues are not as common as often promoted. That said, I've had both and Escape and 2018 Fusion with the 2.5, Ford/Mazda designed) which is a good motor too, but slow in a Fusion. They designed the first Gen 2.0 Ecoboost together too (when Ford split off from Mazda, they redesigned the 2.0 EB to be their own, which I 'think' was 2015). I'm just about ready to buy another 2.0 EB (or else a Lexus IS350) and I'd be very confident buying one again, whether 1st or 2nd Gen,
      ALL motors can and will have some issues, over time, but the total cost of ownership on a 2.0 Fusion is excellent. Like anything, maintain it properly, use only quality fluids and filters and they usually last a long time.

Replaced all 4 coils, all 4 injectors, and all 4 plugs and still had the misfire. It has since stopped so I am thinking it was a fuel issue. There should not be that many problems with a car with 50k miles on it.The car we traded in for the Ford was a 2002 Buick Century we put 185k miles on it and all we ever had to do to it was replace an intake manifold gasket which I heard was a common issue. The high pressure fuel pump is certainly not a "common problem" on these engines. I have replaced many of these engines and have never seen wear on the fuel pump tapet. The problem with this engine is the block design that allows coolant intrusion into the cylinders, usually #2 or #3. If you sourced an early build 1.5L you will be replacing the short block again very soon. Btw, pulling engine from the top is a time wasting pain in the ass. Next time drop the entire powertrain and subframe as an assembly and save about 10 hours and your back. I do agree with you on the oil consumption and carbon build up, these cars require regular induction services to keep that carbon from building up like that.

      @@socialjusticewarrior9601 ya i suppose good oil won't solve those specific problems. It may solve the high pressure fuel pump lobe from wearing the cam, but its direct injected so its going to have carbon. The oil blow by isn't helping the carbon issue either, all the oil is just sticking to the valves with no fuel to wash it off. How bad was the carbon?

      I am definitely replacing my cam follower ...they say when the black coating is starting to wear off to replace cam follower ... Bout to do mine for 1st time at 60k... And if you use the crc intake cleaner once every 15 to 20k and spray into throttle body it will help the carbon build up... Use crc intake cleaner exactly as directed it works great... It is Ecoboost rated and won't mess up the turbo by overheating and carbon on turbo bearings...use crc 2 days before oil change and only use full synthetic oil... Quit splitting hairs use synthetic Walmart 5 gallons for 28 bucks change every 5k... All this is preventative maintenance... Learn about what you have... And thanks to this video I now know about a cam follower.. prolly save me tons of money but will never know cuz a failed cam follower won't eat up my cam and fuel pump awww the savings on a 15 dollar part and my time... That's how we get ahead.... Thanks for this video!
