think part of the issue is many don't know what their issue is, spasticity, tone, weakness and paralysis can be hard to differentiate. In my case, I can bring my knee to my chest fast while laying down but can;t do it at all standing up. My therapist was baffled by this and said that it's because I have no foot and ankle movement and the ankle controls the muscles that helps lift the knee. He gave me BOTOX in the ankle and told me to stretch the calf muscle, by letting the foot hang off a step, because the tightness in the calf is hindering the ankle movement, he also told me to do marches standing up. I haven't swung my leg to the side in a year, that was more due to weakness in my case. My gait looks normal now after after squats and knee standing on the floor for over a year.. I'm almost 2 years post, coming up in September. I had a hemorrhagic stroke on my right side due to an AVM rupture. I can walk with no crutch but I wear a brace for safety due to my foot issue. My advice would be have your doctor and therapist tailor a program for your specific needs, not all rehab programs fits everyone's needs and could be a waste of time. I'm also looking to get a personal trainer.

I have been working with a incredible neuro therapist for the past 2 years trying to get back to normal gait and ultimately running again, I always drop Tara tidbits during my therapy and I began to think you were talking to her because your videos always seem to be about the things I work on at therapy, I learned how to walk down stairs from you and your videos, I thank you for this channel

With the exercise after the earlier videos where you talked about it, I mastered the control of the ankle and the rotation stopped. Now I still need to strengthen the hip flexors to increase the regularity of walking. Have a nice week.

I am 13 years post stroke and still making some progress. I will try these exercises. I have mild foot drop and spasticity.
I have an afo but don’t wear it much as it limits my ability to to do Zumba classes and yoga and Pilates.
I find my gate is worst when I am tired.
I think I danse better than I walk.
Thank you for all these videos

I have the exact same problem c5-7 surgery 9 months ago. Left leg is stiff and can’t bend back to kick my butt. The pool therapy helps a bit but it’s still a major struggle. Ankle still doesn’t work either. How long has it been for you ?

Nice video. The rationales are very helpful. Can the external rotation also be due to hip/glut med weakness? Thanks! 😊
