    I watched this for a third time now. Wow. I have not had a stroke or anything like it. But since my husband passed away nearly five years ago, I have had to sit bent forward in order to sort and pack my household to relocate- not once but twice! Due to several early adult orthopedic problems and surgeries kneeling or crouching is out of the question. So I sit on something really low, hunched forward! Now I understand why I walk stooped - apart from intermittent backache. I am trying your exercises and really hope they help me walk upright - I used to have a very purposefully erect posture! I also follow a daily series of chair pilates which is strengthening and stretching various muscles and joints - I am determined to rectify this stooped over posture! Thank you for your vids and tips, really appreciate you! I sing semi professionally, so my core is quite strong - just need to add your recommendations.....

    Thanks for this vid Dr T. I can relate to it exactly. I tend to hunch forward because it intuitively feels safer even though logically that does not make sense.. I
    am constantly reminded to stand up straight but it’s hard to ignore that voice in my head telling me to be safe. I’m glad to know that’s a common situation.

    💫💛💫 Thank you Dr. Tara for bringing this up. It is such an ugly theme as it makes us look much older and sicker than we are. Having been sporty 2.5 years ago, it is really bad to walk bent over. For me it is pure fear of falling as the left knee is so unstable with the nerves not properly working. I practice putting the hips forward but only at home on my furniture walkways. It feels so good to stretch the hip out and walk straight and proud again. But it is dangerous outside so the bent position is a protection and makes the body basis larger. I'm working on it and will try your exercises.
    Many greetings over the Atlantic and stay happy and healthy! 💫💛💫

    I bought one of those life Pro deals you stand on. today was the first day I got on it because I became pissed as I usually am everyday at certain times haha. My wife looked at me like you ain't never going to get up out of that chair on that thing and I got up and she cranked it to 5 and I was able to do like 3 minutes and that really give me a workout. Then she turned it up to 9 and holy crap I couldn't last very long about 1 minute. I said see you old lady you can't kill me 😂 I think I'm going to write a book about getting really pissed because I think it's good for people who are trying to regain what they lost. Really wish I'd had this kind of advice sometime during the 5 years since my stroke. I had physio treatment to get me on my feet and walking, but nothing with this level of insight or expertise. I'm 6'3" and about 150kg so getting back to standing and walking was quite the struggle. Luckily I was provided with a hospital bed, but being so large I find it extremely uncomfortable trying to sleep in a single bed, apparently I need to gain 30kg before I qualify for a bariatric bed, which I don't really want to do just to get a decent night's sleep occasionally. Getting 2-4 hours a night at the moment and constantly exhausted.

    I wonder if any if the Judo techniques for falling safely would be beneficial to stroke survivors. Had a fall myself about a week ago, had plenty of warning that my leg was going to buckle so when I got to the point where my weak leg was about to buckle I was able to fall on my own terms - the very limited Judo training I had in my teens allowed me to fall backwards onto asphalt without any injury. Not pleasant, but not catastrophic

      thanks for watching and for sharing your story! Generally speaking, a stroke in the Cerebellum can make you feel dizzy. type rehab hq and ataxia in the youtube search bar and you will find some videos I have made for this. I hope that helps!

      Hi Dr. Tara. I have sent an email two days before detailing my son's after stroke condition but did not receive any response yet. Could you please look into it. Thank you

    I'm sounding like a broken record, when I fix my posture by being perfectly; it exaggerates my scissoring when I extend my affected leg. Stumped you, eh? Mind you, I have only 2 to 3 degrees of hunches angle.

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not stumped me. I think I have made 3 or 4 videos addressing the issues you bring up in the comments. Just gotta keep performing the movement and pay attention to what you are telling yourself when you are moving about. Ihope that helps!
