@Casper Gomez You have to clean and dry the windshield before using rainx. I had to use rainx spray and paper towels to clean mine and then apply the rainx spray. My wiper motor burned out while driving smoke everywhere. Carefully got to Walmart and applied as I stated above and went home no problems didn't need my wipers. If I had used wipers you have to clean the windshield.
I just did this process today on my car, and oh my. I also did your interior super clean as well. Those 2 processes as well as restoring my headlights, I can actually see at night. I ended up doing all the windows and can honestly say I have never seen glass any cleaner. I don’t hand out compliments very often but they are well deserved here.
Love your channel, thanks. 1. Initial glass cleaner clean 2. Clay bar with warm water 3. Secondary glass clean 4. Thorough dry with lint free towel 5. Carnauba wax, wait til dry, buff off.
The tips are great, and I really love the sound and clarity of your voice and the awesome job you do explaining. Your voice is clear and very easy to understand. Great video...
I thought I was the only one who used car wax on my windows. I also use it on the headlights to prevent bugs from sticking. I bought my first clay bars today and did a small section of my hood before it got dark... amazing results!!! I will be using it on my windshield tomorrow. Thanks Chrisfix!
Another outstanding video by ChrisFix. I'm watching the entire "clean the car" series, taking notes, and implementing the directions before winter sets in here. Smart, practical, simple, effective techniques. One of the highest quality channels on TH-cam. Keep up the good work, sir!
Fat thumbs up. I just finished cleaning out my entire interior. I striped it completely and cleaned everything including the carpets, the floor boards, fixed up the plastics and leathers, etc. Now I need to clean the outside and the windshield is next on the list. Thanks Chrisfix!!
I am going to rewind video and take notes, do it, then see if my brother comments. Ten bucks he says exactly, "Good for you. You got the windshield clean but you forgot the rest of your car!" (That would be a compliment if he noticed and actually said something). He never has dust or smears on his cars. (He also doesn't have kids and french fries).
Good tips... as an alternative, you can clean the glass and then use Meguiars Ultimate Quik spray wax, then lightly buff with a microfiber cloth. Gives the windshield the same slick surface that allows it to bead and roll off water droplets. A bit less labor with almost the same results. And the Ultimate Quik spray wax won't leave white residue on black plastic and trim pieces around the windshield.
SUPER IMPORTANT TIP: If you just bought an older used car DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT use wax on your windshield. It will fill all the tiny dings and crevices, creating a bunch of white spots that (so far) cannot be removed and it will make it look even dirtier. Thought I would share to make some good of my mistake and hopefully prevent others from doing the same. Although, on the upside, the windshield is definitely hydrophobic! :^) If you know any ways on removing wax from dings, please let me know.
Same thing here. Wax did not dry after 20mins and I had to remove it with soapy water i big pressure on windshield. This wax was mistake… I am not sure if I got all of it off because it now raining outside now
a hair dryer will melt the wax, use your microfiber cloth to remove it once melted, you only need a few seconds of heat, do not apply heat for longer than that.
Seen in other videos an actual side-by-side comparison between wax and Rain X and it looks like Rain X seems to be the winner. Regardless of which one's better at repelling water, Rain X might be the way to go if you're worried about potential windshield dings?
I'm about 4 hours deep into your videos. Amazing work. I cannot wait to start caring for my car even half as much as you do. I wish there was a record of how many micro fibre cloths you have used in your time.
My observations after detailing cars for years and trying various waxes... Wax tends to leave bigger water drops that join together and are harder to see through because they are less uniform and larger. They also sit on the window larger because they are bigger and it takes for force for the air to blow them off while driving. Rain-x makes the droplets go into smaller beads that are more consistent in size and spacing and it is easier to see through the droplets, and they blow off easier while driving. This is just my observation on using a few different types of waxes. (Perhaps different types of waxes produce different results.) Based on my observations rain-x provides better visibility.
I"m just in Shock and Awe at the Amount of Attention to Extreme Detail that you have for your windows, Make sure you clean and wipe off the Windshield wipers !!! I would've never thought of doing that !!! and the wax deal at the end... I would've never even think of that nor even heard of that being done for your windows !!!! Yep, I think I may be binge watching all of your videos !!! Thanks Again Chris !!!!
I've been meaning to apply this technique to my reading glasses for a long time. At a bare minimum: clean with a glass cleaner, clay bar and clean with a glass cleaner.
@@chrisfix Chris, is there any way to get out spots where the tree sap or bird poop sat on the glass for a long time ? Even if I wash it, from the inside I can see kind if an etching.
That's where I've been going wrong, I've been using 4lb/ft of pressure! Joking aside, this is really good. I'm a Brit with a crap car, but still gotta take pride in what you've got, right? Another subscriber!
I've been tortured trying to clean the glass on my jeep since I purchased it year ago. No wonder 🤔 I've been cleaning it the wrong way. I can't wait to go downstairs clean my glass now that I've watched your incredible video. Thank you 🤓
I first started detailing cars for my father in law’s car lot in the late 80’s . Over the years I’ve owned my own detail shop and mobile wash service and done well. It wasn’t until I watched your videos that I realized how much new tech and techniques are out there! Thanks for bringing me up to speed and upping my game to a new level. It just goes to show that an old dog can learn new tricks! You have my respect and am now a loyal follower! Keep up the good work and we will all keep learning!
ChrisFix, you literally make cleaning your windshield (inside and out) an art form! And the results are phenomenal! Thank you (And you sound like a Jersey kid!)
Chris, you are the best. No BS'ing around and promoting of products that would take away your credibility. Your upbeat presentation is always an enjoyment to watch. Thanks!
One of the most important lessons you can teach a new driver is how CRITICAL having a clean windshield is (all windows actually). The difference in visibility is unbelievable. It also reduces eye strain during long drives - especially at night and with how much brighter headlights have been getting. And using wax or Rain-X can save lives. One of my friends was driving into NYC across the Pulaski Skyway and a truck kicked up muddy water. Had his windshield not been treated with RainX, he almost certainly would have run into a concrete barrier and gotten killed.
OMG!! Thank you so much! I have been struggling with a windshield that I cannot get clean and was having a hard time seeing out of at night- you have made my day!!
When you mentioned car wax, I knew you were on task. I've been waxing my windshields for decades. learned about clay bar! Thanks ChrisFix! Found you from your Prius battery swap video. No Prius, but I know people who do. SUBSCRIBED
I've heard alot about you should wax your windshield cuz thr sun will reflect on the wax and it would be damn near impossible to see out of it. Is it true tho?
I always like spending a little time listening to ChrisFix and his automotive TLC methods. I have cleaned my windows as thoroughly as I could and then put a layer of NuFinish on them and the surface was super slippery and the wipers were SMOOOOOTH. I never thought to clay bar the glass, but it's clearly a real good idea! Clean 'em, clay 'em, wax 'em! A little extra effort at the beginning pays off in less effort and better results down the road. Listen to ChrisFix kids. He'll never steer you wrong.
Seriously dude.. You're attention to detail makes my supposed "ocd" according to my friends he he, just sing hymns... love it. that finger tip about the timing of the wax buff.. so great.
Just tried this on my incredibly dirty ram 4x4 windows. Hard water spots and road grit all over. Followed the instructions in the video, and got the cleanest windows the truck has ever had! Going to clean the windows on my wife's Hyundai next!
As a Covid-19 shut-in in 2020, this was great! However, I gotta point out one thing. If, like me, you have an older car (mid-2000's), applying the wax will leave little white marks where there are tiny pits in your windscreen. The rest of it will be super-clear, but just be aware this also means you will spot these little marks a lot more easily now. Still better than it was, but when I'm doing it again, I'll skip the wax. :D
So i just did this procedure today...my windshield!!! its super clean and shiny, i messed some spots but my 1st time so i think its acceptable. Thank you for this wonderful trick. Cheers
@@niteblaster1 hi, this is true, it rained today just to test and drove 15min, cant hardly see the road, is there a way i can remove the wax from the windscreen. tnx
@@ronskie269 take a razor blade or some kind of degreaser to strip the wax from the glass. Dishwasher soap will work. For degreasing it. Really shouldn't be an issue though I used my windshield wipers on my car which I waxed but messed up to see if itll remove the wax even though I knew it wouldn't and it didnt stall or have trouble cleaning so chances are you need new windshield wipers which would be a good investment because poor windshield wipers might make your windshield dirty and make it foggier reflect more light and make it harder to really see.
I used to work in a factory that manufactured small glass plates for use in computers or some such things (they never told me). We used to have to clean the glass plates by hand. I can tell you that most of what he said was true. You just don't "spray on and wipe off". There is a polishing component that is involved, and a lot of the final process involves not just wiping, but how hard you are polishing the clean glass. It's really a skill that most people don't realize, but is easy to learn. And if you clean your car glass properly, you won't need Rain-X or other bullshit to keep you going if you have good windshield wipers as well.
Great video, as always. One thing I do when cleaning the wiper blades is to run an old toothbrush with glass cleaner on in the grooves of the wiper blade. Bug splatter and dirt builds up in the grooves.
Thanks for the tips. Just bought a really old suv and didn't realize how bad visibility was til it was raining at night and oncoming headlights completely blinded me😵💫. Gonna try this method!
Thanks Chris for sharing your knowledge. I now have a clean windshield thanks to you. I finally can enjoy a clear view of the sidwalk and the blod splatters don't stick to the windshield any more, too.
I am a huge fan of having a clean windshield ..it bugs me to see sumone with a foggy windshield full of glares..good job Chris it looks super shiny clean windows is the code to a clean looking car.
I was always told that waxing the windshield would make it smear when using the wipers. Glad to see i can actually take care of my windshield by waxing it
Just found your channel, thank you! You might have just saved me from an accident cuz I can never get my windshield clean. Great explanation, clear speaking and nice voice. 😊
Good info.Nice trick with the clay bar.The only thing I do different is I run a razor blade up and down and side to side both ways first and then use laquer thinner. Thanks

it's good to respray old wiper arms and replace the wiper blades while you are in there, wiper blades are usually very cheap and while they are off the car you get access to the lower portion of the wind screen to clean it properly.
Finally got a decent day here to do a wash n wax. Watched both of your vids cleaning glass inside and out and they work just great. Never thought about using micro-fiber towels before. Thanks for the tip!
I have a Toyota Sienna that I love, but after two years the inside of the windshield was filthy and also streaked from my efforts to clean it. Your methods work GREAT but even though I’m tall for a woman I can’t reach the top middle of the inside. For the outside I used a small step stool. I have a small silicone squeegee that reached where the glass meets the dashboard but it doesn’t reach the top. I’ve bought a lot of the products you recommended and would rather not shell out more money. Suggestions appreciated please. And thanks for these fantastic videos!
I've been bingeing your videos for the last few days and have 2 questions 1- do you have a timetable for how often things should be done? Like regular wash, deep wash, wax, polish, etc. I know every vehicle is different but do you have a rough guide? 2- how do you clean and store all the tools you use to they stay clean and dirt free. Loving the content. I know the video is old but hoping you still reply ahha
1. Wash your car with all the steps including adding a ceramic coat of your choice then wash it weekly with just water and once a month with a maintenance wash, windshield and windows clean them every 3 months I reckon 4 times a year. 2. Clean your tools as soon as your done with them then you will have clean tools every time you need them and their longevity last longer than leaving them caked up with crap till the next use. Create a system for example your microfiber towels have some warm water with soap ready in the sink so when u done throw them in there for a bit then rinse and throw in washing machine with appropriate towel soap.
Waxing you do whenever you notice water not heading off the paint. Polishing you only do once or twice a year. Or if you price a lot of flaws and scratches in the paint. Everything else is mostly maintenance. So you can do it whenever.
I think polishing should be done on a as absolutely necessary basis only and should be measured in times per lifetime. It wears down the clear coat, it's abrasive
Thank you Cris for this and other window cleaning videos! As a Mobile News Photographer keeping clean windows has always been hard but with your tips and the tools you suggest I found it easy. You Rock!
I thought I needed to replace my windshield. Come to find out, I just needed to super clean my windows inside and out lol. This changed my life. Driving at night or during the evening when the sun is setting is no longer a sketchy event.
I drive a lot, clean my windshield daily with my own mixture of vinegar and water. I'm gonna try waxing it when I have time, see if it makes my daily cleaning easier. Thanks for the info!

Like getting treats, shampoo and other things for a dog before you bring a new one home. Your car will be happy, and settle in faster, and run better, knowing that it is in a loving home.
I used to detail cars, we always used 0000 steel wool - works great taking bug splatter off fast and easy and doesn't scratch the glass, one step - soaking wet steel wool pad, squeegee it off.

2. Clay bar with warm water
3. Secondary glass clean
4. Thorough dry with lint free towel
5. Carnauba wax, wait til dry, buff off.
The tips are great, and I really love the sound and clarity of your voice and the awesome job you do explaining. Your voice is clear and very easy to understand. Great video...
+Barbara Williams Thanks a lot Barbara!
I thought I was the only one who used car wax on my windows. I also use it on the headlights to prevent bugs from sticking.
I bought my first clay bars today and did a small section of my hood before it got dark... amazing results!!! I will be using it on my windshield tomorrow.
Thanks Chrisfix!
is it pointless though? the washer fluid is pretty harsh stuff that i feel like woul strip thw wax off anyway?

Another outstanding video by ChrisFix. I'm watching the entire "clean the car" series, taking notes, and implementing the directions before winter sets in here. Smart, practical, simple, effective techniques. One of the highest quality channels on TH-cam. Keep up the good work, sir!
Fat thumbs up. I just finished cleaning out my entire interior. I striped it completely and cleaned everything including the carpets, the floor boards, fixed up the plastics and leathers, etc. Now I need to clean the outside and the windshield is next on the list. Thanks Chrisfix!!
Awesome! Thanks a lot!
DID THIS TODAY AND ACTUALLY GOT A COMPLIMENT!!! DUDE GREAT METHOD!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks a lot for the tip!
Bought my first used car the other day for college and im now in the process of tidying up some minor stuff. These videos have been a life saver!
SUPER IMPORTANT TIP:
If you just bought an older used car DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT use wax on your windshield.
If you know any ways on removing wax from dings, please let me know.
Buy a new windscreen!
Maybe use ceramic coating?
Same thing here. Wax did not dry after 20mins and I had to remove it with soapy water i big pressure on windshield. This wax was mistake…
I am not sure if I got all of it off because it now raining outside now
a hair dryer will melt the wax, use your microfiber cloth to remove it once melted, you only need a few seconds of heat, do not apply heat for longer than that.
Great analysis, thanks
Does your vehicle not have windscreen wipers? I recommend their use for the removal of raindrops - large or small.
Just did this on my glasses. I can see into the future now!!!
NICE!
lol
I've been meaning to apply this technique to my reading glasses for a long time. At a bare minimum: clean with a glass cleaner, clay bar and clean with a glass cleaner.
@@chrisfix Chris, is there any way to get out spots where the tree sap or bird poop sat on the glass for a long time ? Even if I wash it, from the inside I can see kind if an etching.
Is the future bright?
I just waxed my car's windshield. IT IS SO AMAZING!!!
Awesome!!!

He is from NJ the inspection sticker says NJ. I recognized it since I’m from Jersey myself.
Especially how he says water
In the south, wax won’t last 6 months on a windshield. Maybe a month or two tops. If you use your wipers and windshield washer fluid then even less
You're attention to detail makes my supposed "ocd" according to my friends he he, just sing hymns... love it. that finger tip about the timing of the wax buff.. so great.

Oh great now pedestrians are hitting my windshield cause they can't see the glass.

Very much appreciated. Almost 6 years later and still looks like great advice!
Just did this on my windshield and it looks amazing! Thanks Chris
How did the wax hold up? Did it cause any problems?
Cheers
Now when it rains you can't use your windscreen wipers you won't be able to see where you going and you'll crash
OMG THIS IS THE WAY YOU ARE DOING THINGS. THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO DO THIS VIDEOS.
I’ve never heard the word “wooder” more in one minute
Kip G. Guessing by the vehicle registration sticker my guess is New Jersey.

Your windsheild cleaning process is amazing.

He's water spray bottle says " soapy wooder" x'D
"worter"
Randomized Lmao. I didn't even notice that he pronounced it that way until I started reading the comments. Then I thought, hold up that's how I say it. I wonder if he is from NJ. Then I read your comment and busted out laughing.
it's good to respray old wiper arms and replace the wiper blades while you are in there, wiper blades are usually very cheap and while they are off the car you get access to the lower portion of the wind screen to clean it properly.
Great tip! Thanks Alex!
I've been bingeing your videos for the last few days and have 2 questions
1- do you have a timetable for how often things should be done?
@@bigguwapbrixks187 Yep. Stay away from the soaps that soften your fabrics and things like that. That just leaves streaks on everything
@@bigguwapbrixks187 Are you recommending to use no soap ("just water") on the weekly car washes? You use soap only on the monthly maintenance washes??
