Do you know how long time they used to make and rehearse this? I do! Read on:
This is from the tribute concert in Oslo Spektrum, 25 april 2017 (Cohen died 07 november 2016).
There was a lot of artist making their tribute. It is not her band. It was "The Salmon Smokers" that was doing the concert, with guest vocalists like Aurora. 23 songs was preformed... The band rehearsed all the songs long time before, and had 30-45 minutes with every artist rehearsing so the artist could "make" the artists version of it... Not possible to go VERY far from the original then....
Why do I know this? Because the drummer Eivind and I come from the same town, and I sent him a message about it because I was curies about how they did it :-) "Aurora gives EVERYTHING both in the rehearsal and at the concert" he also said...
When Cohen died, Aurora was in the USA. When she heard about it she was SO sad, and changed her concert in Chicago to include "So Long Marianne", and I think her face say it all in that performance. It was done 11 november, only 4 days after his death. (Link below).
Marianne actually was Norwegian, so you have a Norwegian lady singing Cohen's song about a Norwegian lady :-)

I had the greate privilege to be at a local concert last year where Eivind (drummer) and Freddy Holm (strings in this video) played in a local band.
Freddy are fantastic on everyting with a string on.... Both he and Eivind has to be on the top in Norway in their "categories".

@@wallbangerreactions It is easy when I have the possibility to directly talk to the drummer. I live in a small town, and he is only 4 years younger than me. He is not a close friend or anything, but I know him enough to reach out and ask how they did it.

And Aurora said in an article in The Daily Telegraph on May 25th 2024 that she knew the real Marianne:
"Aurora tells me with delight that she knew Marianne Ihlen - Cohen's lover and the subject of his classic 1967 song "So Long Marianne" - who died in 2016, aged 81.
'She was from the same village as my grandparents. She was so beautiful' "

I'm not very familiar with the original, but I love this cover. With Cohen being one of her biggest inspirations, you could tell that she was really feeling it in this performance.

I love this cover, she pours so much love into it. She was a huge fan and his song writing style influenced her immensely, another huge influence was David Bowie, she has some great covers of his music too. Thanks.

This was a concert honouring Leonard Cohen soon after his death. She grew up listening to him, and counts him as one of the most important influences on her music. You can hear the profound veneration she felt for the Master, and her real grief at his passing. A once in a lifetime performance.
