not really, in the manga it made Killua way more gruesome and cold. This is due to Togaashi being a artist who specializes in a mix between manga art and realism. When serious moments/topics come up in his manga he mixes his realism style into his manga esq style.
Man I gotta read the maga, Killua's entire characterisation looks so much more menancing here, that murderous vibe was off the charts. The anime was too cutesy.
the hxh manga is for the most part sickeningly cute until something like this pops up which makes the juxtaposition hit hard. however i think the anime refrains from this for the sake of consistency since killua's face looking so drastically different in the anime all of a sudden would just look odd. i still think overall 2011 does a good job with having the cuteness of hxh clash with these shocking moments. it gets the point across in it's own way.

Anime actually fits what Killua mentioned later, that his father does it cleaner. So I can understand Killua ripping the heart together with the cloth enough to hold the heart, so no blood will drop.

Even though first arc, the least fucked one, still has a whole lot for death. Its not as graphic as later arcs, but its still very present. More people die off screen and of poison and such.

The 99 version I think was a bit more faithful to the Manga. And for the better honestly. As much as I love the based move by Killua to give back his heart I love the atmosphere of the 99 version and the whole murderous vibe it brought. It's singlehandedly the scene that made me aware that HxH wasn't all fun and laughs.

This scene was really disturbing man the first time I watched it even now years later it’s still disgusting and scary to look at but it’s still a really good scene
To me it's just surprising rather than creepy. Not saying that the anime is not creepy or scary but if you compare this and what's happened later on in the story I'd say this is pretty tame.
The manga version is absolutely better than the anime version. Crushing it after the guy asking for it back is terrifying because even though he was dead to begin with, just destroying it in front of him would created a horrible sense of dread for the guy in his last moment. Knowing a part of you is gone leaving you incomplete is really scary.
Well, the author at first wanted gon to be someone that everyone would like to have as their own child, but he changed his mind and ended up being quite selfish and other alarming qualities, so this could be the reason why in this remake, killua is no longer a psychopath who kills for pleasure like at the beginning of the manga
LoL, this is one of the rare occasions when both the original and the anime adaptation is good even if they are different. It was funny and savage at the same time the fact that he put it on his hand. But in the manga he just squishes it in front of him. Both were good
I actually like the fact that the 2011 anime shows him using the cloth to hold the heart, only for him to hand it back to him. It's like the level of like professionalism shows more rather than to be simply shown as a sick minded killer, I get more of a cool and clean feel from that Killua in the 2011 anime more so than the orginal manga/anime.
Both are interesting. The manga gives us a straight forward approach as we see him just rip out the heart right away with a much more sinister look in his eyes, however, the 2011 anime gave the scene great pacing by giving the heart reveal anticipation as well as the constant heart beats eventually stopping. I also like how he gave it back to him after he asked him to give it back, only he waited until he died.
