"The healthcare providers don´t usually know how to use an interpreter and they don´t know the cross cultural differences". Working with service providers who are not aware of the interpreter´s role, it is by far one my biggest challenges. Thanks for sharing this video!
If you're certified is better.. It all depends if they want to pay your rate or not. Or if you work for a specific clinic or doctor. All depends. Sorry
@@rociogonzalez7381 depends on the company you work for, but the job itself is very easy once you learn the medical terminology and manage the 1st person consecutive interpretation. Good luck!!!!

Hello! I have just started a Portuguese/English Interpretation Training. Do you know any on line course I could take to do better on this job interview I will soon have (I really want to be hired)?
@@sanzashop Hi!, first of all I wish you all the best to you and I hope you to get hired ASAP. Unfortunately most of the courses I'm taking right now are from English/Spanish Interpretation but there are a few Facebook pages that may help us to do it better. Those are only English speaking pages, I've never paid any online course in my life and also I've never been living in USA or a English speaking country, because this skills/abilities are from experience and practice the best advice I would say is just to consume content in English. May be tough but watching or listening to English series/movies/songs is a great idea. Also changing your devices or videogames language to English may help A LOT. It may sound insignificant but it REALLY helped me to expand my vocabulary and grammar also the slangs and idioms I know. I can affirm that the most effective way to improve in this field is practicing. If you know a native English speaker or If you are maybe In a Discord server or you know "Omegle" there should be always somebody to help for free. And you can make friends too! Wishing you all the best, feel free to ask something else. By the way, I haven't started my training yet because I'm in a process of moving so hopefully in a week or two I will begin my training courses, meanwhile I'm practicing.
Usaría “secreción” para interpretar “discharge” en vez de “supuración”. Superación significa que la secreción lleva pus. “Discharge” no necesariamente significa que esté infectado. Puede ser líquido claro saliendo de una herida o fluido vaginal o secreción nasal por ejemplo.
I love these lectures and want to take the online line course sooo bad, but can’t get passed how expensive it is with no option for partial refund in the first few days at least. I look a 60hr online training that cost $500 dollars and had SUCH a terrible experience.
1:00:31 So, never in my 18 years of certified medical interpreting and translation services, including psych ward and psych evaluation, have I ever considered using or heard anyone else say “trauma psíquico”… this could be very misconstrued by both patient and provider.
Doctors use a lot kidney fuction but they also use renal disease. Should we always interpret as RENAL because i understand that for some reason they prefer to use the term kidney and not renal. Otherwise, they will just say renal function. I believe we are changing the register if they use kidney and we translate it for renal.
1:12:54 “Luxación” For an interpreting EXAM - yes. But for a large part of the LEP patient population for Spanish, specifically more from certain areas between South and North America, where there’s a tendency to identify parts of the human body with terms used for a cow and meat cuts… 🤦🏻{sighs} yeah, not so understood. And they won’t ask what it means either if you use a term correctly so you may end up having to go back cuz at the end of the doc’s spiel they weren’t getting what the diagnosis or question meant… or maybe just negotiate using cow parts like “chamorro” or “quadril” … and btw “brazo” is used to mean ANY part of the arm, like the hand, and the same goes for “pie”, which could for them mean the whole leg, or a knee, but less often foot, ironically … So, get ready to clarify A LOT.
I have my thoughts on some things here. “Office” as “consultorio” will NOT transfer well in the Caribbean. “Oficina” is a much accurate interpretation.
For this sentence: Esta al tanto de una efermedad hereditaria en su familia?Wouldn't the register be more accurate as: Are you aware of a hereditary disease in your family?
Dr's never say that a medical condition starts with a particular symptom its an incorrect rendition and translation of the phrase used inicial is not under any circumstances in the phrase
If I understand you, I agree. Saying that a patient presented certain symptoms doesn't mean those are their first symptoms. That's actually changing the meaning of the phrase to add "inicial"
Mmm,most doctors in Latin America will not use most of these terms when talking to a patient (unless the patient has a great medical knowledge). Not saying this is wrong, but these forms are the fanciest available, not really the most fit for their purpose.
Angel Teran yes he is really good for the most part. but some of the words seem to be not the best fit for their purpose. but again it must the regions of where we come from.
Token Teran ,there will be a difference between a Doctor in Chile and a Doctor in Haiti! Is very likely that in Santiago the doctor is using this terms!
Even if we don’t think the patient knows words in the higher register as profesional interpreters we still have to translate the words in the register the doctor used, which is frustrating because the ultimate goal is communicating the message so the patient/client will understand. If we don’t interpret the register we aren’t interpreting the message accurately.
Perdón por haber deletreado la palabra mal pero Secreción y Supurar no tienen el mismo significado. Supurar: 1. intr. Formar o echar pus. (La real academia española) Secretar: 1. tr. Biol. segregar (‖ expulsar una sustancia) (La real academia española) Cómo puedes observar Supuración es más específico en relación a pus. Saludos
