Really good video. It's ideal if all the interactions were as smooth as this. But the reality is that most interactions are not as disciplined as this. But it's a great demonstration.
The video is informative and provides good training, but when taking this part of the exam in the California Interpreter's Exam is a total different story because it starts with short sentences and then it switches to 3 and 4 long sentences which is really hard to take notes or try to memorize every detail. If the consecutive part of the California Interpreter's exam was designed the way this video shows consecutive interpretation then I would have passed it long time ago. I think it is unfair the way this part of the test is structured in the California Oral Interpreter's Exam and sometimes I think that the proctoring agency makes it this way only to make sure that very few candidates pass this exam.
It is recommended to avoid coloquial terms in these scenarios, he said "cachuca" which is not understood by many. The female speaker calls the police officers some term that I've never heard before and I'm sure almost no one has... His spanish is a little awkward but effective though.
Sheep Pink "CACHUCHA" is more common than "Gorra" which is equivalent to "hat" rather than what the English man said "cap" . Also "placa" is slang for police - would be equivalent to 5-0 . I take it you're not a Spanish native , but I hope this info is useful
She used "placa". I am from Tijuana, Mexico. I have heard this term used by gangsters to refer to the police. This is not a term generally used by Mexicans but only those types I mentioned before.

First of all, thanks for the lesson. However, this person to person interpretation and this is what I find awkward in Spanish. For example, “usted condujo, camino o como llegó”? The over use of “usted” sounds awkward in Spanish even in a transliteration form. Instead, “condujo, camino o como llegó”? The way Spanish flows on the latter is more natural and less distractive for the interpreter.
13:31 It's odd because I know the woman meant to say 'biblioteca' not "bookstore". But her Spanish is poor. Very common for immigrants to say 'libreria' for library. Are you supposed to correct what she means and say 'library'?
