    Awesome video as always! I'm deciding between ETS & Cobb FMIC, and my question relates to the side metal beams you need to remove for the ETS FMIC install. What is their purpose? Will it affect structural integrity? Also, I'd appreciate your thoughts on ETS vs Cobb FMIC since you've had both. Thanks!

      I am a technician for an aftermarket shop and I can confirm that the side metal beam that is removed will have no effect on the structural integrity of the vehicle. The from crash bar would be my deciding factor. If you get into a head on collision your fmic, ac consider, radiator, and possibly engine will be destroyed.

    Did you see higher coolant temps after the FMIC install? I'm about to either pull the trigger on the ETS TMIC or FMIC. I track the car and a FMIC would sandwich my oil cooler creating essentially a 3 stack; rad, oil cooler, fmic. I'm guessing you also lost that OEM foam ducting once installed yea? Anything you'd suggest doing, prior to installing the FMIC (Fitment wise or whatever)? Seems like adding the FMIC would def make it harder to duct the rad/oil cooler to the bumper

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is much more difficult to add an oil cooler, ducting should not be an issue and no trimming needed to fit it. As for coolant temps I saw no change with the larger Mishimoto rad

    • @Smeedia

    Maybe i am asking the obvious here but this seems to be a hot topic with the FMICs,. Why not go ETS cold air intake, vs chopping op the box on the cobb. Trying to find the right combo on my 13 STI, and folks are all over the place. If you have any insight on why hang on to box SF intake and carving it up, vs just using the Cold air that would have been less of an issue i would greatly appreciate that point of view!!

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In washington state it rains ALOT and sometimes puddles can get deep. To minimize the chance the hydro locking my engine I avoid cold air intakes as they sit pretty low in the fender well. Plus with the car being on bags my fender liners are a little torn. So I prefer the short ram intake to keep it away from water. But I have a heat soaking issue, so the Cobb airbox wouldent fit with the FMIC piping so I figured I would give it a try to make it fit. Overall I saw a 10 degree drop in IAT temps using the cut up box over not using one at all 😁
