Right? I still remember when indie games cost 10~15 bucks. When that rose to 20 bucks I thought alright, still half the price of a 1st party AAA 3DS title but if the game is good and isn’t too short, supporting indie devs is worth it in the long run. But then it went up to 25 is the new low and 30~40 as the new high point and that’s simply too expensive. As a potential buyer at that point I’d really like to see some numbers like how much the development cost was. I get that making a game is a lot of work, no matter the genre (mostly) and it can take years and millions of dollars. But if for example only up to 5 people make a game in 2~5 years and we want them to have a balanced work life so they don’t crunch themselves sick as well as being paid well enough, I don’t see a game like this warrant a price tag of 40 USD. Thus I’d really like to see some numbers on these “new” indie games that ask us to buy 1,5~2 indie games instead of 1 AAA game that cost hundreds of millions to make. There needs to be some balance in worth while also considering playtime, quality and unnecessary overspending on the development.
@@Ser-Smiley Very true. I just paid 30$ for the plucky squire and finished it in exactly 10 hours. Usually I’d say that’s a bit short and would’ve wanted more like 15~20 but I thought the vision and makeup of the game was so special in a sea of soulslike and roguelike and metroidvanias that I wanted to support the devs. This game though. I mean, even if it’s the top class of beatemups like turtles or streets of rage, this kind of game can’t cost more than 25$. Even 30$ would be excessive for this particular game imo.
Yea ninja turtles was what 30 bucks and it was worth the money this don’t seem to have nowhere near the feel and experience you get from it I’ll pass unless I can get it on a great deal on sale
@@Lock2002ful from what i can see Plucky Squire at $30 is very appropriate i think. The game does look like a premium indie to me. Im definitely gonna get it someday.
Just found your channel by searching for a review of this game. Great review. This was (WAS) a day one purchase for me because I loved SOR4 and shredders revenge but when I saw the price I decided to wait until it goes on sale…too many other good options out there to play that are cheaper.
I not only preordered this, I paid in full almost as soon as I saw it was coming. I was supposed to pick it up today, but there was a delay in delivery. This looks like TMNT Shredder’s Revenge in a Karate Kid suit. I’m so glad to hear your positive review. It doesn’t have to be perfect, I just want it to be fun. I’m so excited to get this one. I saw The Karate Kid in theatres in 1984. I have always loved these movies and Cobra Kai. I’m not expecting River City Girls 1+2; I just want a fun game that tickles my nostalgia bone. Thank you for another stellar review. You just have a wonderful delivery and you cover all aspects of games that I am curious about. I love watching your reviews. Thank you for all you do for us. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What I appreciate most from looking at this game is having the ability to see multiple enemy health bars. Most BEUPS only let you see one enemy health bar at a time.
I think they plan on releasing dlc for other characters as I can't undetstand why you don't additional characters after you complete it. They should have gone the double dragon route and given tokens to uplock new characters.
For being a game mill game it's definitely better then most of theirs. But honestly I can't wrap my head around it's price and how basic it is. More then anything id rather pick up double dragon gaidan on sale right now for 13$.
Glad to hear this is still a solid beat em up. Was a fan of the first Cobra Kai game and it was a nice little treat for fans of the genre, but since Shredder's Revenge came out, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and the end of the year is gonna be stacked with beat em ups. MMPR, GI Joe, Toxic Crusaders and that's just the ones off the top of my head.
GI Joe, though not really a thing in the UK has me intrigued, MMPR wouldn't have been high on my list but the fighter was so good I'm in, and toxic will be day one!
Good review, but two reasons why I will not be getting. No online co-op in todays day and age is a major let down. Second is the pricing. I could purchase Streets of Rage 4 and Shredder's Revenge close to half the price. Great looking game, but the pricing needs to at least be lower.
probably going to get it, because I love beat em ups. Not really a fan of the movies (except the one with jackie chan) but I did quite enjoy the cobra kai show ^_^
I wish the UI design was pixelated too. It loses retro aesthetic. Power bar, cutscenes, character select menu all should have the same love that has been put into the backgrounds and characters.
@@verynick Fight N Rage, The Takeover, River City Girls, Wulverblade, & Scott Pilgrim vs the World all have their own art styles. I would say Street Rumble looks like a cross between Shredder’s Revenge and Scott Pilgrim. The characters in Street Rumble look a little stubby and lack range like in Scott Pilgrim.
If you really think about it, the lack of voice acting is *not* a bad decision after all. Most of the original casts are too old and *wouldn’t* be able pull off their voice from 40 years ago. Also, can you even replace Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi with someone else’s voice? So stop griping the voice acting, or the lack there of. The only thing I *would* definitely agree with you is the cutscene images, *if* only they did what Shredder’s Revenge did, then it *would’ve* been better.
I was excited for this game but 40 dollars for this sort of game is a bit steep..i ll get it eventually when it goes on sale on the eshop or the microsoft store…im also excited for the gi joe beat em up thats supposed to to be coming out for switch at some point
Really enjoy the looks and gameplay looks smooth. Bummer about the cut scenes. You do need voice acting if you’re going to go with still images like my beat’em goat, River City Girls. The cut scene art work is definitely that cheap mobile game look so spot on there. Probably worth it at $19 so I’ll wait for a sale for sure.
Some people here, are cheap as hell there are games, and cost more than this and suck. 40 for a game, nowadays is not bad when most are 70 for base game.
cheaply made, repetitive, boring and no innovation $15 game with a $40 price tag, no thank u and no one should support badly priced games like this. Iron Meat is an amazing game for $20, go that way this week.
This game is BAD. the enemies can attack outisde of your range, and WIOLL dop so. And once they hit you through your focus meter, they WILL juggle youi until you die. And then if you don't get out of range FAST, they will juggle you RIGHT AGIAN. save your money and just watch those people PAID to play bad games!
The game is okay. Not great, but not bad either. For me, the biggest miss is the hit sound effects. Like in SoR4 and Shredder's Revenge, when you hit an opponent, you feel it. Here, the hits are just kind of whatever. The game should've been priced around $25 tops. I don't feel as if I wasted money, but I feel as if I should've waited until this is on sale. Not worth the asking price.
I love that TH-cam gave us the 1987 NES Karate Kid link. That was a great game for its time. Fly catching mini-game was peak!
Chopping ice baby!
I agree. It was really good, but really short lol. I would say i like the nes version better lol
I love the look of the gameplay, but you are so right about the cutscenes: what the hell?!? 🤨
Right? They look so cheap compared to the pixel art.
Ugh yeah, that's a no for me. $40 for this game is too expensive. Better wait for a deep sale like you said.

It looks cool but doesnt matter. 40 euro for a beat em up like this is too much.
I have this but havent played yet. You never fight the skeleton costume Cobra Kai? Feels like a real miss if not.
A different graphical style needed here. Every new Beat'em up looks too similar to Shredder's Revenge.
