I was team WiFi+Cellular but I realized that I don’t take my iPad anywhere without WiFi. Even if I do take it, my first instinct isn’t to grab my iPad to do anything. Until Apple makes that clear separation between iOS and iPad iOS I don’t think that’s going to change. No hate to people who go with cellular, it just has to fit your lifestyle otherwise you’ll waste money like I did

My mom's telling me to go with WiFi+Cellular for the exact same reasons as video. Problem is I hardly ever use my phone’s cellular when outside unless I or a family member, need to look something up and prefer WiFi whenever possible(hotels/homes) I’m planning to get my iPad today and I literally won’t be using my iPad for anything unless it’s to game/watch media or as an ebook reader since it’ll primarily stay at home where WiFi is always available.
Still. I’m torn as now I don’t know which to get…

You are absolutely 100,000% right about cellular! Just a few days ago i tested the difference by removing the sim from my iPad mini 5 just to see how it’d pan out. I hated it, to say the least. The video streaming on mini via the hotspot from my phone was sluggish at times, it eats up the the hotspot data from the phone quickly and sucked the battery energy much faster (iPhone 12 pro max). That iPad mini fits into the pockets of my jeans and, i love it. All of my iPads have been cellular, from the first-original iPad all through the years up to these iPad Pro and this mini 5. So I definitely will be getting cellular mini 6! Thanks for the confirmation!!!!

I have the iPad Mini 6 cellular too and I much prefer to use WiFi on it. The device refuses to connect to 5G most of the time, which is quite frustrating even if I am in an area with a strong 5G coverage. Weird thing is, my friend who is on the same carrier provider as mine and lives few blocks away has no 5G connectivity issues. Hegets 5G all the time on his phone. So my advice is just get WiFi version.

As someone who travels somewhat frequently, having a cellular iPad is super handy. 4G/5G iPads come with GPS like you mentioned, but the newer iPads also come with an eSim. I don't even need to pop out my normal SIM and put in a local one, I can just buy the data I need right from my iPad and I'm ready to go. I've used eSim on several trips to Japan and Hong Kong, it worked perfectly.
Also, if you have a shared data plan, you can add your cellular iPad for a small fee and it uses the same pool of data that your phone uses. I like using my iPad as a hotspot for my laptop and I don't have to worry about the battery life as much as if I was using my hotspot from my iPhone.

  • @mrdude2702

One more point for cellular is security. When you are using the wifi at the coffee shop, you have no idea who else is monitoring the traffic going through that wifi hotspot. When you are using cellular, you can trust that the cellular company is probably not hacking your connection (if they are, you have way bigger problems going on). Using your phone as the hotspot helps with this issue was well, but then you have the speed limitations he talks about. Also, if you are using your phone's hotspot, make sure you sent an extremely strong password so nobody else connects.

I totally agree with you. I originally got the cellular option becasue I travel a great deal and Ive already tried to deal with being efficient and frugal by hotspotting with my phone when trying to work while out of town. VERY FRUSTRATING! The last thing I wanted was to spend extra time waiting for Hot spotting which is not always a smooth operation. WTH the iPad cellular option, it is so much smoother and easier and RELIABLE! No fumbling around with the phone, just open up the device and get to work and get it done with a quickness. So very much worth the extra $10.00 a month that was added to my already unlimited ATT plan. I wouldn’t go back to being limited for anything. I also agree with your statement that those who don’t want the extra cost probably never used cellular on their iPad BUT, it might just also be they hardly ever travel with it so their correct in not purchasing the option. But when you’re on the road a lot like myself, I can whip out that iPad even while eating at the airport or in my car or wherever whiteout needing the phone around.
Great video! Thumbs up! Looking at more content.

I have had a cellular ipad mini for years. It's a back-up to my phone in many ways. If my phone is dead I can text from it. If I misplace my phone I use find my iphone to find it. (surprising how often I can misplace my phone--even in the car) I believe there is a way to call from it though I have never used it that way. I've been using the smallest iphones (SE) now since they are easy to carry in a pocket, etc and I can use with one hand. They also cost less than the bigger iphones too. I keep my cellular mini for watching movies, playing games, social media, and work with students. It is so much easier to navigate than just a phone.

I have an Apple Watch Wifi+Cellular and with that device I feel like it’s a necessity to have cellular capabilities because it’s a watch and I will sometimes want to go places without my phone. However, when it comes to iPads, I feel like it becomes more of a conveniance factor because wherever I bring my iPad, I bring my phone, and since my phone is hooked up to an unlimited data plan, might as well make use of it. That way I save the extra $200 on the iPad upgrade itself and an extra monthly cost just to have cellular on the iPad.

I've always had a WiFi+Cellular for years. I just sold my 2017 10.5 and ended up purchasing a 2021 12.9 512GB non-cellular from BB which was on clearance for sub $1000.00 However, I continued to search for the same size with cellular for about the same price. I lucked up and found a 256GB version of that iPad on what appears to be an Amazon special order as I'll have to wait two weeks for it to be shipped. It's probably pointless at this junction to have a Cellular version as Wi-Fi seems to be everywhere but seeing it's what I've always had and I like the security of not depending on someone else's security risk based open Wi-Fi I feel much better off having a cellular version.

The point you made in gps I defo didn’t think about, if you went on holiday you could download the google maps offline and not need to use any mobile network or Wi-Fi and just navigate the maps with the gps feature. I never considered gps but that’s such a good point. If you go on business trips or holidays then cellular for sure if you never do then get the Wi-Fi only. I was using the Pro 9.7" wifi + cellular for 3 years, I used the modem and GPS only once. Currently I use Pro 10.5" wifi only and don't need cellular as I use it mostly at home with fast wifi. Now I purchased Pro 11" M1 wifi + cellular only because good offer, was cheaper than wifi only model with the same space. Because of that I'm going to install eSIM from my Orange plan (30 GB, calls, sms) also in iPad. eSIM in iPhone and extra eSIM in iPad. Honestly I don't know if I will ever use cellular on the new iPad, but since can share the same plan without additional costs in 2 devices, it doesn't hurt to set that configuration.
Ps. Why cellular in Regular, Air and Mini cost 130$ and in Pro cost 200$? Is there any technical justification for that 70$ price difference?

Well... I'm considering a refurbished iPad for one of my 8 year old nieces. Her other Aunt, my older sister, wants to also get her an iPhone. I don't have any kids so I'm not too keen on the latest fads, I just think 8 is too young to have an actual phone. They do use iPad in school. I talked it over with my eldest niece that a tab w/ cell service would probably be more practical and easier for the adults to monitor or to get ahold of her while she's playing her games or face timing with friends. I checked with my service and it'll only cost $20mo to add to my line. I think I just convinced myself lol 😆 Maybe I'll try to sell my sister on the idea of maybe buying a watch in a few years instead. Thanks for your post!

I have used it as my cell phone for that length of time by using a voice over IP app to make and receive phone calls. The app cost $30/year for unlimited calling, domestic and international. I use a few others apps offering free disposable numbers for specific uses like shopping for cars or insurance. I my last phone was an IPhone 3 which I replace with the IPad. rededicating my pro as the stay at home ipad for my fiancé and i to share, especially since i do all my youtube work from my imac now

I just bought a iPad Pro 11 withwifi and cellular plus 256 GB. I am trying to decide which phone company to use. My wife has Verizon on her iPhone. We have a fast router in the house, so I will be on it most of the time. Which company do you recommend? Which plan?

Ok so here is my story:-
I recently purchased a 2021 M1 12.9 inch WI-FI variant. I use wifi in my house and I'm from India where i don't have 5G and have 4G only. I wanted a cellular variant but because of the budget i couldn't buy it. But I have a WI-FI dongle and it gives you more than 90% of the cellular speed so i don't regret my decision. If the speed is 20 MBPS then in dongle it gives around 18-19 Mbps. Honestly i don't take my ipad outside of my house. But during my family trip i took my ipad and went to the mountain (hill station) which has poor network coverage. But when i was using my dongle it was actually providing me with good network coverage.
One thing I understand is that there is no such big difference between wifi or cellular.
If you have money then buy cellular but if you don't then buy a dongle and use it. You will not regret your decision.
If ever i have to use Location,GPS or have to watch TH-cam outside of my house i use my smartphone and not my ipad. So why should you buy a cellular ipad??? Some people might need cellular because of their necessity but if you don't have that necessity then don't buy it and save money. With that money but apple pencil, screen guard, and a back case. Also buy a 1TB SSD that will be necessary if you have a 128 or 256GB variant.

I do love my smasung 7FE and really I do like how it performs on with cell data though it may have 4GB of ram but really since im mainly using it for watching vides thats fine. Also I would rather have a celluar tablet because not every plublic wifi is safe and most of the time slow so being on mobile data which is more secure and possibly faster brings me peace of mind.

As a business. Having a cellular iPad is really useful. Having to sign invoices and send them right away if very important. It eliminates the hassle to remember to turn on the hotspot, wait for it to connect, then if it doesn't connect, having to reset the iPad and iPhone, taking up extra time, and looking like a moron in front of the customer.

Team wifi-cellular. It just works for us, since my kids use the IPad, and having this option allows them to bring it everywhere, even when wi-fi is not available. And I don't have to constantly hotspot them. Including, when I walk away with my phone, they use to get mad that the wifi would drop lol. Not an issue now

I'm an OG, don't let that fool ya. I'm computer literate. My nature say's start cheap and build up. That doesn't play well in the fast paced electronic industry. As mentioned, Wi Fi has limitations. No GPS, and the security risk connecting to an unknown Wi Fi hot spot.
Also connecting to your phones hot spot is problematic. SimplyPops was spot on, using your phone as a hot spot is a massive battery drain. Also mobile services most likely will throttle down your speed or subject you to long router timeouts when your phone is used as a hot spot. Direct cellular enables full 5g speeds whereas hot spot speeds can be 1/10th or less of full speed. The longer the down or upload times, the faster your battery will drain on both your phone and connected device

I set my Wi-Fi only iPad on the passenger side of my car’s hood while I put some other items into my car. Got distracted and forgot about my iPad. Needless to say, it flew off the hood somewhere down the road. Because it’s only Wi-Fi… it’s offline and could not be located with Find My iPad when I signed into iCloud. I’ve walk 13 miles of roadway searching for it without any luck. I just ordered another yesterday and it has cellular. Hoping the cellular connection will improve my odds of locating it if unfortunately I find myself in this situation again of losing it.

  • @malikahardy599

When I work for a call center I would always recommend cellular to people who truly use their ipad everywhere like me. It’s convenient when you don’t want to trust public WiFi. Avoid additional fees for hotspot using data. The phone battery draining from the hotspot and lord forbid you need to use your phone at the same time. It’s also great if you got kids and y’all on a road trip or getting on a plane. They cost more but they are worth it if you have the needs of those features. I always recommend something that fit the customer. I had people shocked with my honesty when I would tell them I wouldn’t recommend them buying something they wanted because they like the features but had no intention on using it. I don’t believe in wasting money, time, food or my frustrations on a device😂. They wasn’t calling back to cuss out nobody if I could avoid it.

So if I use the iPad Mini for biking with the komoot app I am better off with cellular or an I better off with a mobile wifi router from Huawei! connected to all my electronics, apple watch, laptop, and iPad!? How to think beat as a gravel biker out in the forrest!?is a lot of money between the two ipad minis with or without cellular... I already got a huawei mobile router, but I think they lower the connection in the night as it always drops in connection stability... Not sure what to choose! 🤨

The rural area I live in has no high speed internet options. So no wifi for me. I have unlimited data on my phone and another unlimited sim that I’ve rigged to work in my iPad Air and between those, I have very little use for my laptop at home. I still need it at work, but there is wifi there.

I don’t know. I’m not saying it’s a waste of money I can just use my phone to mobile hotspot. But 8. Just not convinced that it’s so superior in reliability that it’s worth the money. Or what about a Wi-Fi iPad and a mobile hotspot mifi device?
The only absolute benefit is the battery drain. But I’m at a point where I’m already carrying a battery with me anyway
