    I want a cellular one for two reasons. The first reason is so that I don’t have to connect to random WiFi which can pose a safety issue. I have to travel a lot and I won’t have a WiFi connection. Using my phones hot spot would drain my phones battery. I need my phone to stay charged independently from my iPad. If I have to pay extra for hot spot data... then I might as well have it on my iPad and not my phone when I don’t use my phone for the same things. Also- having the cellular as an option means if you find you’re using only WiFi... you can stop paying for cellular, and only pay when you actually need it. My husband is in the Army and we end up in many situations without WiFi. So for traveling having the cellular option is extremely useful.

    Chris, you are so spot on with so much of what you’ve said here. I’m someone who always buys cellular on my iPad. My job requires 80-100% travel on a monthly basis. In fact, I once went 8 months without ever seeing my work office. When I’m on the road for work, I typically stay in Hilton or Marriott hotels. They have terrible WiFi. If you don’t pay for the upgraded WiFi, you typically get download speeds of 3-5 megs. (Not usable, IMO) And even if you do pay for the “enhanced” WiFi, you typically still get less than 10 megs down. My cellular provider typically serves up 60-80 megs download speeds in large metropolitan areas, where I am most of the time. So my cellular connection on my iPad is zippy, often more so than whatever WiFi is available. And I’ll give you one more reason to get cellular on your tablets. I recently found out that my cellular provider doesn’t throttle them. If I go over 50 GBs in a month on my phone, they throttle me (I have “unlimited” data). But they don’t throttle tablets the same way. I learned this just recently by accident in a conversation with a rep from my provider about a completely unrelated issue. So, word to the wise... by cellular tablets. They’re totally worth it!

    I really get the pros of going cellular but after debating this matter for an unhealthy amount of time I decided I will stick with the 2021 11” iPad Pro Wi-Fi. I have more data that I can use on my iPhone and with Instant Hotspot when there’s no Wi-Fi the iPad just asks you “do you want to connect to iPhone?….Yes please. I personally always downloaded tv shows and movies ahead of a trip and regardless I wouldn’t do anything too data intensive over cellular anyway, since even unlimited plans have hidden limits… if I really am in a rush to do something on my iPad I just tether for the amount of time to complete the task. I’m sure for many the Wi-Fi is ideal and you save money on the long run! Plus the iPhone 11 battery is a champ even while tethering.

    Maybe you don't have or want a modern computer on wheels, and don't have carplay, and like the idea of a larger navigation screen than you phone.
    This gps chip seems to be the real difference, and everyone never mentions it or just dismisses it as insignificant (including APPLE). As you said there are ways around not having cellular data, not true for no GPS hardware. I suspect most people who choose the WIFI only version, are not aware of this, and find out the hard way. It should be called iPad cellular + GPS, instead of cellular + wifi.

    The main reason I feel like I’ll need cellular data is because I use it for maps or navigation purposes, and because I stream music when out and about, another good reason has to be if I need to make payments online asap without having to look for public wifi which can pose a threat to my accounts.

  • @DylanM15

    Honestly tethering from a phone kind of stinks. The main issue really is most tethering from phones still has data limits too. I think right now I have 15gb limit then it goes down to ultra slow speeds. Why have to bother with that when for $10-$20 I can just get fully unlimited data constantly to my iPad. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @luqmans7
    @luqmans7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    For something as data hunger as ipad pro, using cellular will require you to spend more money on cell plan with huge data/unlimited. Plus, it will drain battery very fast compared to wifi. I’ve experienced this and I’ll get the wifi only. But then I don’t trave a lot so this is quite subjective

    • @aarongarza5171
      @aarongarza5171 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      $20 for unlimited plan with no data caps and added line? You spend more on your regular phone. Adding a tablet or smartwatch doesn't increase your bull drastically. It's the cell phone.

    Will a Cellular Ipad have the same functionality as an iPhone? I mean placing and receiving phonecalls, sending/receiving SMS messages, etc? Thanks

    • @gertwallen
      @gertwallen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just found the answer: "Important: Wi-Fi + Cellular models do not support cellular phone service-they support cellular data transmission only. To make phone calls on any iPad model, you need to use Wi-Fi Calling and an iPhone." support.apple.com/guide/ipad/make-and-receive-phone-calls-ipadf97892b2/ipados
      So having cellular in the iPad is absolutely useless at least for me, other than data service as an alternative to Wifi it does not add any phone funcionality
