Your videos are soooooo helpful!!!!! Thank you for all the content you make for the S5 II. I bought it, sold it, an now I think I’m going to buy it again after seeing this video. Seeing how it performed at the wedding and the choices you made. Bro… that helped sooo much.
Man, how glad was I to see this video pop up on my feed. I always like your down to earth style and actual experience. Looking forward to your review of the S5 IIX. Great video, and great work on the wedding shoots. (Nigerian weddings look like FUN!!!)
what you said at the beginning of the video shows your experience and professionalism toward doing a good job and performing better(knowing how much you can push your gear). Good video keep it up.
Great job my friend!! 1st video I've seen in a while with such detailed REAL examples and setup suggestions. I've registered...and I'm waiting for more...💯👍🇬🇷
Really fantastic video. The only complaint I have is that I keep getting distracted from the actual information because I'm so enamoured with these beautiful wedding shots. Damn you know your craft.
Thomas. Great video. Nice to see a review and analysis based on real world situations and performance! Like you, I see some issues with AF on my S5IIx. Mine hunts sometimes especially when using any type of diffusion filter. (ProMist, CineBloom etc). IT certainly needs some tweaking.
Thomas, this is such an in-depth, informative video. THANK YOU for doing this real world scenario video so well and professionally! Subscribed! Question for you: The one thing I missed before ordering this camera was finding out it doesn't have an optical low pass filter, which means more moire. Have you found this to be an issue filming with the S5IIX, and if so, how hoave you worked around it?
Thank you for your video. The Wireless monitoring option is great but it lacks the focus pulling as in the Creator app compatible with the best cameras. Is there a Panasonic alternative hiding somewhere? Thank you.
Awesome insight. Man let’s sync up, Im in Loganville but always in the Dec or Atlanta. I have a couple of the S5 II, lights, a couple of long lenses and such getting into Weddings and Events. I hate for these cameras not to be on, I shoot for 12 Stones Church at Sugarloaf, down to fellowship to double up my efforts in growing and provide extra coverage just to connect with someone in my headspace.
@@StoryDrivenFilmmaking Man, just made it back from shooting a Luxury Wedding in Chicago. I brought 3 of this Bodies, just now getting a chance now to sit down a review the footage. These Cameras are phenomenal.
I have the s5 mark 2 also. Do you not use the camera in full HD?? Are all your videos in 4K?? I believe in full HD it loses phase detection and revert back to contrast system. What’s your thoughts??🤔🤔🤔🤔
¡Muchas gracias! Para todas mis tomas de preparación, trato de mantener mi ISO en la ISO nativa de la cámara primero, que es 640. Para las tomas de recepción, me mantengo detrás de 2500 y 4000 ISO.
Im in between this camera or the Sony Fx30 the only thing that worries me is the AF, also for weddings, I like the stabilization and the low light performance is obviously better on a full frame but still think about it.
My friend has the Fx30 he assisted me on a wedding that I shot this past summer. The Fx30 is a great camera (looking at the footage he got for me). I’ve done two more film shoots the weddings I filmed in this video and I am pretty confident in the S5ii (and S5iiX) AF. It’s “almost” perfect. I think with a few firmware updates it will get to 98-99%. Right now I would say it’s at 90-95%.
Fantastic video my FRIEND - can't wait to get my S5IIX when it's released! Quick question regarding external power - did you just use batteries for your shoots or did you invest in either extra batteries or mains power? I think it's a bit of a shame that Panasonic didn't include at least one extra battery and mains power for such a video centric camera but it is what it is I guess. All the best from the UK!
@@darealphantom Thanks for the heads up! I'll be using the USB port to connect to an external SSD so am looking into other power options. I'll probably be getting the external 'wall wart' power supply, as well as some extra 3rd party batteries, but I'm also looking into the option of powering the camera via a dummy battery and NPF batteries with the Smallrig NPF battery mount. I've seen another video where the guy used it with his GH5 but so far can't find the necessary info with regards to the S5II/X 😕. Hopefully the Lumix subreddit can shed a bit of light on this setup (if it's possible) 🤞!
@@brianstephenadams4803 you’re welcome, I did see someone use like a usb-c adapter type thing that had 2 spaces you can plug in the SSD and charge the camera at the same type could consider looking into that as an option
Hey, thx for checking out the vid. I previously owned the A7S, a6000, and a6500. I would put the AF of the S5 just as good if not better than those older models. However, I filmed a wedding this past summer and my assistant used the fx30. In reviewing that footage I did not see once instance where his af failed. So I would say with my limited knowledge of their newer cameras that Sony is probably a little ahead of Panasonic as this is their first attempt at phase detection (but it’s a great first attempt). I plan to collab with my assistant this summer and I will definitely do a comparison to see how the S5ii and S5iiX compared to the Fx30. I hope that helps.
Listen I love see my fellow black creators doing great work‼️ This is like a masterclass for the S5ii I’m switching over from canon and this video is definitely helping me keep doing great work. I wanted to get the 35mm and the 50mm but watching this making me consider the 24mm instead of 35mm and the 50mm of course and a sigma 105mm
Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate it. I actually had the 35mm in my cart. I had to debate over the 35 and 24mm as well. I decided on the 24mm because of the crop the S5 line has when you filming at 60fps.
What ISO were you pushing on that dancing footage? I noticed the noise, but didn't find it totally distracting. My previous low-light Panasonic experience was the shortest I've ever owned a camera. Full on ghost/duplicated blurred figures when in motion as if it couldn't determine what to do with any information past 3200.
Hey Caleb, honestly this camera as a Full frame camera is going to handle low light just about as good as any other full frame camera (Sony Cameras will of course most likely be the best). You also have to consider that some of the noise could have been due to my color grade (I do add film grain as well). But to answer your question, I filmed all of the reception footage between 2500 and 4000 iso. The shots at 4000 iso where I am using my LED lights are super clean. Lastly one thing to consider, what is wrong with having a little noise? I watch so many dark scenes in Hollywood movies and there will be so much noise in the shadows. I think as amateur filmmakers sometimes we put too much emphasis on things that our audiences or clients (most importantly) won’t even notice.
I kept playing around with both the Full area and the 1-area +. For a large crowd where you don’t necessarily need a particular person in focus I liked the Full area.
Thanks for the great content. I recorded Jiujitsu grappling where 2 faces need to be in focus. What are your thoughts for using this camera or should I go with Sony As3 or As4? Thank you.
Hey thanks for checking out the vid. That is a great question. I will test this out this weekend to see how it works on two faces and let you know how it works out.
Hi! So, I conducted a test yesterday on shooting multiple subjects (my wife and me) in a two-person interview setup. Based on the test, I found that Full area AF with human detection yielded the best results. I found that if both subjects are positioned at the same focal distance then you will get the best results. Regarding Jiujitsu, I'm fairly confident that the camera will focus on the fighter's face that is more prominent. If you decide to go with this camera and use it for Jiujitsu, I would recommend setting the sensitivity low, perhaps at -1, and set the speed to -2 to achieve smoother focus transitions between the fighters as the move around. While I haven't personally used Sony cameras in a long time (I still have the a6500 and a6000 collecting dust), one of my wedding assistants used the Fx30 and Fx3 while he helped me shoot a wedding, and the focus performance was excellent on both of those cameras. The only downside I see with Sony is the relatively high cost of the camera's (Full frame versions) and GM lenses. I hope this info helped. On a personal note I really do love the S5ii and now the S5iiX. While the AF isn't perfect it is about 85-90% there. Once again, thank you for taking the time to check out my video.

One spot with human detection
Its not phase detection af its a hybrid of contrast and phase like sony. Phase detect only is not good.
