Hi everyone! I hope this video is helpful long term if you are watching it! Please drop a thumbs up and comment below if it was helpful or if you have any questions. This video was shot using the earliest firmware for the S5II and if anything major changes I’ll update this down the track. Check the table of contents in the description for each feature and option. @@GeekyNerdyTechyit’s @itsdjbuddha - this time using my actual TH-cam channel to reply 😂🤦🏾‍♂️
On my channel I found myself doing a multicam with a GH5 MKII and an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Then shooting my b-roll with the GH5 MK II
      The issues this may solve:
      - using Filmic Pro on the phone is OK, but it’s still a phone and it can’t do constant frame rates which seems to be a hardware limitation. So re-transcoding that footage was annoying (to match up frame rates for the Multicam to keep sync)
      - Product shots with the GH5 MK II are great but the lack of usable autofocus made it a non-starter for lots of things. And doing a talking head video with products was a challenge.
Ideally I’d love to buy the new camera and eventually sell the mark II to get a second one so I can have 2 of the same camera for shooting.
I have a question though, another reviewer pointed out that when connected via HDMI you lose autofocus control or you lose phase shift (I’ll try to find the link for reference) if this is true, does it also apply to app control? Sounds like a processor limitation, hopefully you can elaborate.
Great stuff again, love your videos, been subbed on both accounts!

Just make sure you run the right mode for what you're shooting. If you are doing a talk to camera, put the human tracking on and its outperforming my Sony cameras in that scenario. For other stuff like product showcase unboxings you might want to set up a one area mode :) If you're using the S Series lenes, the AF is fantastic.

I appreciated this video. One thing I'm having trouble with as I've just bought the S5ii but it seems to be on a setting where what's in the viewfinder during M mode, does not match the final photo. I set up some lovely shots, only to have the final shots overexposed, or so underexposed I just had a totally black image (yes, the lens cap was off). What setting makes what you see is what you get? Also, please remind me how to get rid of that silly PIP while focussing. I changed the setting in two places, but it's still happening.

Thanks for the effort you've put into this. A point that came up recently on other channels: Can you confirm that for 1080p, full frame, and frame rates above 30 fps, the camera uses the "old" contrast DFD, and not PDAF? The explanation I've seen is that for full frame read-out and higher frame rates, lines and pixels are skipped, causing phase-detect pixels to be missed as well.

19:10 “This camera will give you far better autofocus performance than anything Panasonic has ever released.” Not so. Run. Run away very fast from this camera. The autofocus on the S5ii is vastly inferior to Panasonic’s contrast based depth from defocus. Yes, DFD would go back and forth until it confirmed focus. It wasn’t fast but photography it was accurate. It worked.
The much raved about PDAF refused to focus about 30% of the time. This is after I reset the from the factory settings. This is the worst focusing, and not able to focus, camera I’ve ever had the displeasure to own. I plan to trade this horrid camera for a camera that actually focuses. Maybe Panasonic charges extra for this feature.
Most of the TH-cam videos about setting this camera up are video centric. This video is an example. I’m a photographer who does video clips. This camera has a plethora of video settings. None of them are any good unless the camera can auto focus. This camera doesn’t autofocus so the video features are irrelevant.

Do you have advice for using the RØDE wireless go ii mics on a shoot at a gala. I used the two mics on a lumix s5ii camera and found like it cancelled the audio of one for the other once it was added in to my editing software filmora. But when I watch the video back the audios are balanced and fine: just that it picked up the background noise also. Unfortunately i’ve deleted the audio files so I couldn't fix it in post production. The S5II is their entry level full frame camera. The S5IIX will have all the fancy stuff. 5.9k and 6K 10-bit is something the GH5 can’t do. This should be more than enough for most people. The GH5 was way ahead of it’s time. My GH5S also has some of those data advantages. 😊

@@GeekyNerdyTechy calling the s5 an entry level camera is funny tough. A canon rp or a sony a72 are entry level ff cameras. They are around 1000 and very limited in many features. A s5 is a professional camera able to do almost anything a professional needs for paid work. Thex of course is even better for some users. Seeing my gh5 still being very competetive in the video area is nice tough.🍀

One for nature and travel and one for Rc airplanes. We where out flying the other day and filming and i noticed something strange. My friend is not using zoom when he filmes me but im using it a lot cause im used to filming. When i zoom in on an plane the light shifts. it almost like i add a stop. This is strange cause it is a pure f2.8. I wil share a clip with you. i start filming at 4:58. th-cam.com/video/YLPSzRBMi4M/w-d-xo.html
Im using a Nisi variable ND filter 1-5 and im filming in 4K 50 APC. Just to say im not a pro in any way. but i have used the GH5 for about 6 years and this is my first full frame. Hope you or others can help me figure out this. Perhaps it is a faulty lense. Or me just doing something wrong. Worth mention is when i zoom i hear this clicking sound in the lense. never heard this on my 100-300 on the MFT system.

What a travesty. First Panasonic branches out into FF, then releases the GH6 without PDAF after FIVE years of developement since the GH5. And suddenly there is a PDAF FF camera a few months later. As a 10 year long Lumix G user this is to hard to cope. We have basically been left in the dark.
