The grandfather's story is actually a very common problem among the rich, that never seems to go away. They have a really hard time telling who are friends, and who are users. I had a super rich friend while in military school. There, all his family's money meant absolutely nothing, since it couldn't be used to change any situation. We were all equals, with no bills for food or housing, no one needed or wanted any of his money. He thought it was the happiest place he'd ever been, and would have lived his life like that forever, if it were possible.
my military school is the same way, especially since many also have financial aid or on scholarship
@@theas3890, in this case, the rich kid was a Blackhawk crewchief/ doorgunnrer attending an advanced Infantry school, to be admitted to the 60'th Special Ops Aviation Regiment' the "Nightstalkers",. What balls. We all were there for bigger and better things, but he had more to lose than any of us. I have no idea if he was giving his parents the big FU , or if he was just living his life his own way, but he was a serious contender, a great friend, and a great guy to everyone.
I always heard that money cannot buy happiness but it can give you a certain peace of mind.
Having money doesn't mean you don't have any problems. But your problems usually don't stem from not being able to afford something.
I heavily relate to the ex, I did not assume my family was very privileged until I was like 13, I did not realise that not everyone can afford going on world tour every summer or eat out at restaurants every week. But most importantly I did not realise that other people didn’t have that safety net I had with always have a second option if I fail or a new phone when I break one. I did not assume we were privileged because we did not spend a lot of money on houses. Clearly we did on everything else from cars to extra after-school activities (which I also assumed everyone had.)
Same thing happened to me but I realized at 12 after a friend told me that I was rich cuz I lived in a house in a really rich area

I've had my kitchen-aid mixer for 14 years and it works great, I suspect he tried to mix candy that had reached the hard ball stage ( it got too hot)
Kitchenaid, which is made by Hobart, makes appliances that are indestructable, nothing that can't be fixed. Belts and bearings are pretty much all that fails. I once worked with a Hobart front loading dishwasher, that could wash and dry a load of anything, IN 90 SECONDS!!! Load it any old way, it doesn't matter. Liquid dish soap is automatic, just load, push start, and game on! It used 1 gallon of soap a month, for almost constant 8 hour a day use. At home, it would be far less. I'd recommend it to anyone, except it costs $18,000.00.
the one about the wife's family not getting the concept of a workday and the story immediately after reminds me of how ppl not in college don't understand that i have school. they'll just work and be off, meanwhile i'm in classes or also at work, or have homework to do and exams to study for. they cannot seem to grasp that i genuinely can't hangout 24/7, and it's so weird and sometimes frustrating

I learned pretty early on that I’m about upper middle class, especially as I found style and my tastes grew more expensive.
But the one thing that stuck with me is that by being spoiled you’d end up a target of jealousy.
And jealousy often became bullying.
At first it was being not included, that I know was because I had ADHD and acted different.
But the more people knew about what I had the more some would resent me.
I ended up with intrusive thoughts about what it means to deserve what I have. Everytime I misbehaved (often because of ADHD) I thought I didn’t deserve it.
So ya know. Money is great, especially in the adult life, it gives you all sorts of things.
But when a kid is that way and exposed to kids with less of kids with more.
They lash out. And having money is meaningless if you’re unhappy..
Ellen, I love it when you talk about your family. Not only is it clear you love them, but also that there was love in the family as well. That's more valuable than all the riches in the world. Many who grow up in wealth do not have the true blessing of growing up in a loving family. THOSE are the ones we should pity.

I think jealousy can cause people to hate on people who have more than them (not everyone ofc but I’ve seen it happen a lot)
Yes people who have grown up with money can be very ignorant about other peoples struggles but in my opinion you can’t blame them that much- if you grew up never knowing what it was like to live without what you had, you might have found it difficult to understand their points
That doesn’t mean they can be rude about it, no one should be rude about it, but if they’re genuinely good people and do their best, I don’t see it as a huge deal 🤷♀️
I agree, I've seen many people hate just because of jelousy, even if the other party is actually on the kind side.

I had a boyfriend that was so ritch. Once at 2 am he said that he wants to learn the electric guitar and his mum heard him, the next morning at 9 am his mum came back home with an electric guitar that cost around €1000 and had already payed for lessons that were very expensive, he only went to about 2 lessons and just lost interest. He also had a lot of expensive clothes and really didn't take care of them and just ripped them on purpose, he once broke his tv that took up tge whole wall in his room just because he got angry at his dog. He judged me for wearing cheap clothes and just told me to just buy from designer brands like him. He also didn't understand that my family is poor and that 5 people live in a 2 room appartment and sometimes have sleep for dinner. His parents used to take me to restaurants and buy me lots of food but i could never eat it all because i usually eat just enough to stay alive and his family of 3 people could make a big table of food dissapear in 10 minutes.
He didn't work, neither did his parents, so idk how they were ritch

the differences between 90 and now are massive, the extra costs of living have gone up makes middle class family feel poor

1:47 i wont say that. some people with a lot of money wished they didnt have that much (not no money, but not so much either) and they have their reasons
I learned the value of money at an extremely young age (I was calculating tax on the things my parents and I were getting before I could form proper sentences, and I knew the bills and paychecks of my parents' by a little before halfway to adulthood). My family has never been rich, though has been everywhere from poor and in debt to lower middle class during my lifetime, and even when we were poor we figured out ways to make do with what we could afford (or, relatively). My parents weren't proud of their situation, but they felt it was a good idea to teach me from an early age.

It's the mindset that makes one rich or poor, The story/post you said about where giving 100$ to poor and rich. Poor mindset uses the 100$ to buy food and party or whatever it is, meanwhile the rich mindset will just spend 20$ for food and 80$ for the earning more money. That's how rich gets richer and poor gets poorer
Okay so where I live there arent many "rich rich" people but my friends goes on holiday atleast 3 times a year and claims he's poor. I've never even left the country
