    Though I want to make some used budget builds, what is the best price range you guys want to see right now?

    Great testing and showcase but I also have so many questions as I am not seeing the same results here plus when turning off the 2nd ccd.
    my 7950x3d does not lose to a 7800x3d by the amounts here with process lasso. When using Lasso, was Freq CCD forced used in the bios for driver preferred? so everything is running on Freq CCD for background tasks and then only use the x3d ccd for games via Lasso. Also your right regarding lasso locks the option to change in some games, most likely due to anti cheat build into games. Sometimes have to use the custom commands in steam to force x3d cores (old school) or run the launch application with the required changes in lasso so it sticks when you load the game.
    Ultimate Performance plan is used on my end.
    A have tested quite a few games even turning off the CCD2 and just running one CCD does not give me extra frames.. normally slightly worse due to backround tasks now forced back to x3d ccd. The 7950x3d should also be running higher clocks as the 7800x3d is locked to 5050mhz by default unless bclk OC is used.
    Was the 7950x3d also boosting ok to 5200-5250mhz via x3d ccd?

    To make it more complicated The balanced profile also has a little slider which goes from power save to high performance.

  • @msoltyspl
    @msoltyspl หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    7950x "needs" balanced mode, as the gamemode+mixedreality profiles (with CPMinCores and CPConcurrency overrides) that it installs are only for this scheme and 2 related overlays (which match slider positions to the left and right). So if you wanna rely on automatic behavior - that is 3d cache service relying on game bar to prioritize CCD0 + CCD1 parking via game mode profiles - then yea it will only work as intended under balanced scheme. This approach while usually working has its own barrel of worms to deal with as well.
    Thank goodness this will be put to rest with 9000 x3d line.

  • @TigerNationDE
    @TigerNationDE หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    The scheduler works best for ryzen with banalnced. That´s what AMD says. Lasso is another thing cause you can tell the processes which cores to use.
    If I´m nit that wrong the parking mode is deactivated in high perf. Thats why it sometimes is slower witht he Ryzens cause every core is acitve and will be used from anything. While in balanced especially in games that are recognized, the cache cores will be focused.
    That´s what i understood so far. But i use my 9750X3D with Lasso anyway. It´s just smooth when you set all but games on the non cache cores and just the game gets the cache. It´s like a whole CPU just for the game, no matter whats running in the background :) Unfortunately a hand full of games doesn´t care thanks to the anti cheat tampers xD

Plus there are certain emulation software that actually prefer having a whole bunch of cores to horde to themselves. 8 core processor on RPCS3 while you are trying to manage other applications can result in noticeable performance loss. Single CCD 12 core would be the ideal mid ground. But I feel like we are never gonna get that from AMD.

However results are not repeatable, far cry doens't seem like trusty benchmark. Process lassoo is good. On all OS's.affinity is inherited from parent process to child process so if you stick use to first CCD for the steam executable. Should do a good job across board. And can then hand tune for specific binaries.Other launchers are obviously available, but same rule should work.

    3:22 This is interesting - obviously there's only so much one can do to make tests like this fair and you've clearly done everything in your power for that to be so, but we can see in these two scenes that they're not *perfectly* equal - indeed it appears that there is more going on in the scene for the "balanced" gameplay, meaning the difference in performance is possibly even higher than noted.
    This of course is making some reasonable assumptions about things like how the engine handles object culling and such, but I think that given there's a few degrees(c) of difference between the GPUs there that too points to more work being done on the GPU in scene 2.
    4:17 Again we can see a small discrepancy in the power consumption and utilisation of both CPU and GPU in effectively the same scene: There definitely appears to be something of note here; When operating on balanced it appears that more work is being done on the GPU than the CPU, which might speak to how that particular game's render pipeline was designed? I'm speculating here!
    Boy, am I glad I chose the single CCD SKU, as this looks like the kind of minor headache that would drive me bonkers!

    I can see why balanced is recommended for multi CCD processors, but I do not see why people recommend against high performance on single CCD processors. On my 5800x3d when I choose the ultimate performance power plan, my sensitivity in games feels faster giving me more snappiness on my system. I have switched between the balanced and ultimate performance plan multiple times and it is not placebo. I can immediately tell my cursor feels different. The only argument I can see is for potential power savings and temps. But if you have a good cooler, these issues aren’t so problematic

    • @flouse.
      @flouse. หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Lockwood360 Temps will be affected but again if you have a good cooler on a single CCD processor, it shouldn’t be an issue. Especially if you undervolt your CPU. The temp increase should be more noticeable in Casual browsing / idle compared to gaming though. In terms of performance, I am talking about input latency which quite frankly, is a very sensitive and controversial topic. To the average gamer that just wants to chill and have a good time, balanced is preferable. However when it comes to competitive gaming and or minimizing latency, balanced makes my input latency feel different. Note that I am not talking about performance metrics and FPS. I’m referring to overall system responsiveness, particularly in FPS titles (Overwatch in my case).

    With the Ryzen 9 7950X3D AMD should have either just made both CCDs have 3D Vcache or do what intel did for their big little architecture, using what they call thread director built into the CPU itself to assist the OS scheduler in what cores to use for what. Love intel or hate them that was one really smart and innovative thing they managed to do for managing their P/E Cores.

    • @Son37Lumiere

      That required reworking the windows scheduler in win11 which in turn hurt Ryzen performance since Microsoft didn't bother to optimize for AMD CPUs. Also, it's questionable whether that would actually be useful for AMD since every core is a performance core.
