Thanks for the video. I could not get to start even after flushing the fuel accidentally exceeded electric start limit. Thought it burned up. But it just required a rest period. Wheww. All I needed to do was take the carburetor off and have the dirty brown fuel drain out. Reinstalled Put new gas in and fired right up. Works like new.

Thanks for the overview, I was struggling with how to best get that plastic shroud off so I could get to the carb.
I didn't store mine properly and it's been two years since we got a decent snow. I just needed to clear the jets in the carb and it fired right up and ran like a champ. It could have been much worse; lesson learned to not be lazy and just properly prep my engines for off seasons.

So I have the same engine on a TroyBilt 2410 with a 179cc MTD engine. I have spark, good gas, been using it already this winter, so gas has been fresh, and absolutely no start. I checked and pulled the flyweel, and it was not out of alignment with the key. Compression seems to be super (120-130 lbs). Why is this guy not starting? Spark plug is sparking, with a steady blue spark. the tester has like an orange/red glow. Even when I spray starting fluid or put gas directly int the carb, no start. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the valves. Remove the valve cover and visually inspect to make sure something isn’t broke. If not, try starting and make sure the intake and exhaust open and closes. If they do, check the valve lash.

@@small_engine_repair Hello, and thanks for your response! I did remove the valve cover and checked the valves. Not the lash (.04-.06) I think, but there was nothing amiss, and both functioned fully and more or less equally. My next move is a new plug, but the plug had a pretty hefty spark. So there. Thanks again, pal!

The manual says not to fix it yourself. 🤓
