    GREAT video!! Ensure tiny float spring is inserted at top & no kink...causes flooding/leak. Also nipped small notch in hole for choke handle...easier to slide assembly cover against carb.

    This video is much appreciated. I'm in the middle of a carburetor replacement using your old style carb video. IMO all the small engine repair guys offer keen advice, but your strength is showing the way for those of us who've never done this before, and afraid we'll miss key steps. The tool layout at the beginning is strictly SOP and much appreciated. Sure enough, I tried to skate by without the ratchet, but one bolt sent me to Lowes to pick up a MM ratchet set. #Question 1: shouldn't we go ahead and replace the spark plug while we've got everything out? My snowblower started like a champ, but even so, now seemed like a good time. #Question 2: I've never had issues with storage and startup using Stabil when I put the snowblower away for the summer. Last year I decided to drain the fuel tank. This year, immediate start up, but the carb leaked like a sieve. Maybe caused by my draining the carb. Maybe not, but what are your thoughts on storing a snowblower? To drain, or to Stabil? I've heard carb gaskets and such can dry out if you drain the engine. I've also heard they can gum up if you don't. I have no idea which way is best.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely replace the spark plug while your there. Better to be safe than sorry with the spark plug. You described it both ways of storing the machines that I do recommend in the issues are, if you store the machine by emptying the fuel out of the gas tank, you must make sure you get all the fuel out of the fuel line shake the fuel tank around a little bit then drain carb 100%. If you miss even a half an ounce of fuel you can have issues just like you did this year. Storing the machine with a full tank of gas and running it periodically every other month for 20 minutes at a time should keep the machine running 100%. The problem with that is human nature we do not remember every other month to start our snowthrower. I live on the East Coast of United States and we do not see a large amount of snow in the Philadelphia metropolitan area so I clean and rebuild and replace a lot of carburetors every year because most people do not know how to store their equipment. Stabilizer is a must and you could check out a new fuel that has been out on the market for some years. It is called TruFuel. It is man-made you can buy it at many hardware stores. It is a little pricey but it supposed to stay fresh for up to two years. I am skeptical about that but we all use it in the small engine world! Go to the website and read up on it. Thank you so much for the kind comment. Please tell others about my channel so we can grow and thank you for watching my videos. I’m glad these are helping for you!

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thank you Brad. Keep in mind that things that are 2nd nature to you guys (like changing sparkplugs & oil during a carb job) are news to us. (Some of us?) BTW, the metric ratchet set? I knew I had one somewhere, couldn't find it, bought a new one yesterday just for one bolt, and found the original set this morning. A video on tool organization would be helpful. What's messing me up is the accumulation of left overs from plumbing jobs, picture hangings, and other jobs that I hate to throw out, but they're choking out visibility of essential go-to tools that are infrequently used, and therefore forgotten. I know you work daily in your shop, but how do you keep tools and parts where you can find them? Any suggestions for the occasional mechanic?

      I think periodic inventories and purges might help in my situation. An extra board to hang stuff on the wall would also help. But the stuff accumulates. Just bought a siphon hose, for example. Not something I'll use a lot, and it's going to get contaminated with product. Keep it with my oil change pan, I guess, if I can remember where I put it...

      Glad to hear :) Did you purchase a new carburetor? If you have extra parts and you have a local vocational school with a small engine class? You can take the extra parts to the school for the teacher to put on the shelf in case they have a snow thrower to work on? I would suggest stop using the gas pump gas and start using Aspen4. Here is the link to read up on it and a locator to find it in your area. www.aspenfuels.us/products/all/aspen-4/. It will keep you from having issues in the future.

    Do you know what the model# is for this carburetor? I have this same 2410 and I cleaned the carb out but there is something blocking the fuel coming in. I was just going to buy a new carb and slap it on but im having a hard time figuring out which one it is.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are two different carburetors for this model. There is the old style and new style. This video is the old style carburetor. You can look up the carburetor part number by going to a Troy built website with the model number of your machine on the white sticker behind the machine located on the transmission cover where you would stand behind your machine, you will need those numbers to get the correct part number for your carburetor. Then you can Google the part number of the carburetor and pick your choice and where to purchase.

    I was able to replace the carburetor in new 2410 and get it to run - Awesome! However when it’s running it doesn’t sound like it’s running smoothly - almost like it’s struggling to stay on. I kept it running over 10 mins and am able to user Auger and Drive Control but feel like there might be something wrong. Any advise?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen, gaskets installed incorrectly. Debris in fuel tank that was not cleaned prior to installing new carburetor like water, Even sometimes a new carburetor will not work correctly but that is few and far between.

    • @samirpatel5428
      @samirpatel5428 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I see the description sounds like surging which is weird since new carburetor

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are correct, surging is a lean condition meaning not enough fuel is flowing. It could be a bad carburetor or the reasons I stated above can also make a lean condition. Let the machine sit for a day and try it again. Sometimes the carburetors need a little time to get going. Also the warmer the engine gets, the better it should get but as you said, you ran it over ten minutes and that should have been ok. I would double check the other reasons I stated above and if all checks out you may have purchased a bad carburetor.

    • @samirpatel5428
      @samirpatel5428 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see how adjustable screws on carburetor. One is a plastic black screw and small screw with spring. Which do I adjust to address surging? Do I tighten or loosen them?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let it warm up at 1/2 throttle for 5 to 7 minutes. Depending on how cold it is it may take awhile for the carburetor to get warmed up. You may need to compensate using the choke to stop the surging until it warms up but after warm up, you should always take the choke off. If it still surges it may be a new bad carburetor, if it is a aftermarket carburetor? Every now and then you’ll get a bad one.
