RIGHT! I have a hard time thinking I should listen to advise from anyone who says "it just doesnt fit my needs"... Uhh, if you couldnt predict that by using information and your brain, I am not impressed by anything you have to say. If your situation changed, that is different. But 100 percent you should have been able to tell it wouldn't fit your needs.
I have a 2023 F150 Lightening XLT. I charge at home once every two weeks. Moral of the story…if you can’t charge at home do your research BEFORE you buy it. It’s an amazing daily driver and this video is proof of why you research things before you buy something. Anything.
I find it amazing that he was upset that he got an OTA update? In this day and age the fact that a company updates and supports its product is amazing.
A lot of these complaints are not really specific to the Lightning, and a bit of planning could absolutely negate any of the downsides you have brought up.
I charge to 90% everyday. I go to work and charge, at one of the free charging stations for employees only. With a daily commute of 96 miles, I save almost $560 per month. I charge at home maybe once a month and only enough to keep the battery at close to 50% until I get back to work. YOU MUST do your research and make sure you're in the right situation for this vehicle.
My daily commute to work is 20 miles roundtrip (10 miles each way). I drive a total of 10,000 miles per year (work and leisure). I currently drive a F150 with the 2.7 and spend about $160 a month in fuel. I'm seriously considering this as my next truck. I can charge at home if I install a charger, with my electric rates at only 8 cents per Kw from 7pm-7am. Even during peak times it's only 22 cents per Kw. I'm looking at buying the Flash trim level of this truck just to give me extra range for when I make the once or twice a year road trip.
I have had my Lariat ER for five months, and I love it. I drove it from Maryland to South Carolina and back with no problems. One way was 500 miles. The BlueCruise is amazing for road trips.
I have a 23 xlt ER, have had it for 4 months, I drive A LOT. I have 23k miles on it already. And long story short, if you will not charge at home… DONT BUY. If you will drive over 300 miles a day, DONT BUY. I drive 250 miles a day and that’s pushing it. But you need to have the Ford station pro otherwise you will not make it. If you will do long trips, plan on 40 min charge sessions. For me, I LOVE THIS TRUCK as a daily work commute car.
How expensive is it charging at home? In New Jersey, where I live there's a $1500 rebate for installing charging equipment at home. Also the power company offers special overnight electricity rates of 6 cents/kwhr. Is this what you have?
I love my 2023 XLT ER. I drive it every day. You could have figured out all that before you purchased it. I drove it from WA to Vegas; it was awesome. Hopefully, you find a better fit.
It’s a great car and did fit what I was using it for at the time. Now that I’m trying to make more car content, doesn’t really make sense to drive this in order to “save money” I should be driving my other cars to make content.
@megahops1 I was going to say the same thing. I just drove my lightning back home from LA to Michigan. I had a great time. I have the Tesla adapter for superchargers and yeah it took a couple minutes to plan my trip but with apps like ABRP it makes it super easy. I took the time when charging to take a walk, or eat lunch. I made it work. I saved almost $200 as compared to my ice f150 that got about 20mpg on the highway. It’s the best truck I’ve ever owned. And I would say you’re not going to hurt the battery by fast charging it on a road trip. Sure if that’s all you did to charge was DC then yeah but most people can charge at home or some other level 2 situation and then not charging to 100% you’ll be fine. I found that my trip across the country there was never a time where I could not find a charger or a choice of different chargers so I could get a better rate. Overall it was a great trip and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Disagree. I own a lightning Pro. I have zero issues with taking a long trip as long as it’s not into a complete charging desert. About 90% of my driving I can do at three to four times cheaper on a cost per mile then the petro powered trucks I own, or have owned.
@@michaelwitkiewicz7052 yep. And I’m assuming you having a pro are on a std. range battery which makes it even more impressive. I use ABRP and it’s really not that bad at all. An extra few min of planning and you’re good. 👍
You're welcome to your opinion as everyone is, but I take my lightning on road trips all the time. The blue cruise is such a game changer, and stopping every 2-3 hours to fast charge for 20 minutes is a non issue for me.
As someone who is a manual gas engine enthusiastic that had gotten one recently, alot of these complaints would be negated with research. Amazing city truck for a contractor not a replacement for a full time work truck.
Exactly, at the time of purchase it fit exactly why I bought it. Now that I’m doing car content more I don’t need to try to “save money” by driving this. It really just is costing me more than saving me at this point
@@Freeway_Media I see, valid point. For a NPC city commuter the Lightning checks all my boxes. "Efficient" in the city has no clunky transmission, low NVH, and has utility when you need it. EV fanboys are just as bad as the haters imo. There's a use case for everything, I hear too often from the EV only crowd that they would never get a "gasser" and it's outdated technology. The funny thing is those people often drive 10 minutes to work and back and couldn't fathom why driving an EV long distances is outright stupid.
The distance truly is the worst part. As a daily commuter sure it’s great if you don’t need to go far and I agree it’s easily one of the most comfortable cars I’ve driven. EV is perfect for that!
It's absolutely a great replacement for full-time work truck. Mine is and I put 200km on a day and have half a battery left over. I save $600 a month in fuel.
Being in CA with moderate weather and lots of traffic the Lightning has been absolutely ideal for me. Having solar also made it a no brainer. It’s about the right tool for the job for sure. An EV won’t be the answer for everyone and that’s ok. Thanks for sharing
Also the Ford Pro Station is overkill unless you plan on powering your home. I just use the NEMA 14-50 outlet and electrician only charge me 150$ to install in the garage. Your limited to 35amps but way more than enough to charge up completely over night.
I agree on the Charge Staton Pro. I've already disconnected mine and replaced it with a smaller charger that will charge more than just the Lightning. Still love the truck after 15 months of ownership.
I’m not really seeing the point of this video other than your range anxiety. I expected you to talk me out of it, but this seems like you have never had a truck or EV before.
One of the worst reviews I’ve seen. Kid didn’t do research. Gas/toy vehicle clearly suits his life. Constantly talks out of both sides of his mouth. Yikes. 😂
Yes he said it is a review...."2023 Ford F150 Lightning review! These are the reasons why I regret buying an electric vehicle, especially a truck!" YIKES LOL!! He forgot what he even typed!
I have a lariat and it doesn’t bounce while driving. If you are looking to get a gel at, no truck is for you. This is t for people that drive 600 miles all the time. My truck saves me $10,000 a year in fuel and oil.
I live in Florida. FPL has a program get unlimited charging for just 38$ a month. It does only apply between 9pm and 5AM and weekends. Overall I love my Lightning. Drives smooth and is super helpful when I’m working around the house or tailgating
Sounds like you made this video for the clicks. Nothing you said wasn't already known if you did just a little bit of research before buying an EV. The one thing i totally disagree with you on is the ride. Not sure how you can say the ride isn't super smooth and instead bumpy. I've driven in both and the lighting is so much smoother and more comfortable, especially on bumpy roads. But to each their own.
So I’m in the wrong because I wanted to make a TH-cam video to get views? Isn’t that backwards? Clearly I made it to get views. This is my personal impressions, coming from someone who drives race cars and performance cars mainly. If you don’t like it, sorry to hear. But it’s my opinion
I also didn’t say the ride was bumpy, I said it’s very comfortable but “bounces” one too many times, not bumpy. You’ll notice when you go over a bump, the car moves up and down quite a few times, one too many in my opinion. Which comes down to physics and the weight of the car. Smooth? Yes. A bit too Floaty? Yes.
Above 90 degrees you are losing more range than in cold?? EVs are most efficient from high 60s to high 80s so 90s is barely going to dent your efficiency. And how are you only getting 1.7 mi/kWh on the highway? Easily get over 2.0 at 65-70 unless its freezing out or strong headwind. Road trips you should be stopping about 30 minutes every 3-4 hours, especially with tesla chargers. Also wondering why you think EVs are easier to fix yourself vs a modern truck. Most of the non-power train parts are the exact same. Battery has 8 year warranty, and EV motors are way more reliable than ICE engines and transmissions. Gotta say, really just seems like you bought an expensive EV without knowing anything about EVs.
the air conditioning takes away 30% of range. Even out of spec concluded that and they are as pro EV as it gets. UNFORTUNATELY, it also does that for ICE.
@@TheKingOfInappropriateComments lol source? The A/C maybe uses 5% at most unless you are driving down the street, there is no way a compressor running takes up even close to 1/3 of what the power train takes. Takes way less power than a resistive heater that my EV has. Even that will not be close to 30%. Source: Driven thousands of miles in multiple summers owning this truck.
@@Freeway_Mediawhat’s not how it works? I’ve had my lighting through 2 summers now and the A/C barely impacts range. The lightning subreddit is filled with the same sentiment. An A/C compressor is not going to use more than a resistive heating element. So either you had some unlucky variables that affected your data or your truck is an outlier.
You are clearly a person that is not ready to move to EVs. And it's unfortunate that it stains what EVs are. It's your experience and expectations, but you really need to do more research and learn what EVs are about and how they would fit your needs.
Not going to ding when it is your decision to not keep the truck, and I do not live in your shoes. My subjective opinion is the opposite. I could not be more satisfied by ditching my 2018 duramax. It no longer made any sense to keep my twice a week routine to fill it up. I took delivery of the competitor of Ford, the Silverado EV. I work and travel on the east coast and have not experienced hardship issues while on the occasional road trip (RI to GA). Keeping to destination L1 or L2 charging planning also helps. My operating routine sticks to home charging, when leaving the garage with a full "tank" takes advantage of the EV simplicity and lower operating cost. BTW, I found pick up truck purchase prices between EV and ICE pretty much on par with each other. I wish you better luck the next time around with your next vehicle purchase, they are too expensive at any point to have regrets with your hard earned money.
Weird how getting updates is viewed as a negative for you. I hear you on the public charging but how often do you find yourself using them? I also live in NE Ohio and our electricity is only .066$ a kwh. I actually found some free public charge stations in Columbus and have never actually paid out of pocket because of the free EA Ford provided.
I get what you mean on the updates, I can see both sides. To me, a vehicle shouldn’t need updates and or force you to update. .066 is the cost per KW, but there’s other charges in there that more than double it if you really look at your bill. Obviously cheaper than gas, but not as much as you think.
@@Freeway_Media I'm not sure I follow with the electric bill what doubles? Its much cheaper than gas at .066kwh its only 5$ to go from 0-100% on my 98kwh battery. Thats 240 miles of range making it roughly .02$ a miles. I can promise you a gas truck is high teens at best. Your vehicles doesn't "need" updates. They offer new features to the software. You can disable them. Ford isn't forcing you into it.
I don’t think this is a good review. It seems you would have had the same problems with a Cybertruck. Your issues were all charging related or EV related. This review should be called. Why I don’t like EVs.
EVs are about planning. I have a 2024 Lightning and traveled a lot with it... use ABRP, precondition your truck. use Tesla Super Chargers. I planned ahead, I have 10kw of solar as well as chargers at work. So only use DC when I travel which I love to plan my trips. We like to stop every 100 miles or so to use the restroom or eat.. This is the best truck I have ever owned. It seems like the younger generation demands instant gratification. When gas skyrockets and when the grid goes down I will still be able to use the truck. Information is power do your research. The only problem I see if you live in a apartment with no way to charge that could be a problem. So no regrets here I will wear this one out and buy another.
Also I don’t really understand what you mean by “instant gratification” I don’t think it’s too much for me to just simply not like the idea of owning an electric vehicle anymore. I want a normal, gas vehicle that doesn’t have all these weird issues and needs.
@@Freeway_Media Its always nice to see what other opinions you bring up some good points... Nice Job on the Video, I can appreciate the talent and time it takes to produce content. Thank you..
by my math where I live, an EV truck like F-150 Lightning or Rivian R1T costs similar to a 40mpg gas vehicle when gas prices are at $3.50. But public charging is usually about twice as expensive so half that and its similar to a 20mpg gas vehicle (or, a typical gas truck)
This guy doesn’t do his research, u drive a 2023 ford lightning. I absolutely love it. I have had it for 4 months and have 15,000 miles on it already. No problems and I use it for work! This guy is a nerd
lol. This is the worst video I’ve seen on these. I don’t own an EV, but your complaints are the most obvious. Did you know absolutely nothing about and do absolutely no research prior to buying? Sounds like it.
Would like to have had more numbers, but good video. I figure 2 miles/kwH probably equates to about 20mpg on cost paying household electric rates, more if you're paying extra for charging. Not a bargain. Honestly EVs make more sense for small runabouts than anything like a full-sized truck.
Not even close - I pay $.05 per kWh and get about 2.5 mi/kWh in my Lightning, which means it costs 2 cents per mile. Do gas trucks cost 2 cents per mile? no not even close, more like $.18/mi
@@richardabbott451 Depends where you live. Southern CA electric rates are .26 cents or more off peak and .67 cents or more on peak. So if you get a truck with 20 MPG at $4.00 a gallon and compare to 1.5 miles per Kwh at off peak charging with 80% charging efficiency, because charging is not 100% efficient the cost per mile is a wash. The only benefit of EV is driving dynamics, instant torque.
If you really look into your price per KW I can almost guarantee it’s not .05 I thought the same thing when I bought this. My “price per kw” is .08 HOWEVER there are a ton of additions to that in which technically raises the price per kw on your bill. Mine is raised to about .2 after everything, more than double what I thought when I had purchased this truck.
@@Freeway_Media " 2023 Ford F150 Lightning review! These are the reasons why I regret buying an electric vehicle, especially a truck! " Yes you said it was a review...YIKES!
Wants something that drives playfully, but has to do truck things, but can't cost a lot... And I'll never understand people buying EVs to go on hundred mile trips
Hundred mile trips are the best thing to use this for. Even with the worst range variables I’ve never been under 200 miles. I save so much on those trips vs my gas F150. No vehicle is for everyone, but so many people could use an EV for 95% of their use.
"Why I Regret Buying the Ford F-150 Lightning EV Truck" = Why I'm an idiot who did no research and now I'm going to create a clickbait TH-cam video to cry about it for maximum monetization.
1. I pay 7 cents per KWH 2. You can use any 48 amp charger. (Bought one for 299.) 3. I bought used lariat extended range for 53 with 8k. 4. It does everything but tow long distance. 5. I get 2.1 to 2.2 M/KWH on the highway so I'm not sure where you are going wrong, aftermarket tires? 6. My other car is a B8.5 S4. The truck is faster.
I mean this comment with intent to inform 1. Double check your bill. Sure, the price per KWH might be 7 (mine is 8) however, there are a lot of extras that make the real cost per KWH much more. 2. I got a free 80 amp charger with the truck 3. I bought my brand new truck for nearly that… you got fleeced 4. The load capacity is much less than a gas truck (not towing) aka you can’t fill the bed as much. You also can’t go anywhere in the world with this without worrying about being able to charge. 5. I go faster than 65 on the highway 6. I have a 400whp manual b8.5 s5 and ran a faster quarter mile than the truck… manual…
@Freeway_Media 1. It's 7 and some change. There is a once a month fee, but that's there whether I have an EV or not. (I live in a red state)(My charger is smart enough to delay charging till the middle of the night.) 2. That is a good charger if you can easily get a 100 amp breaker, but most do not have that headroom. 3. I doubt anyone bought a loaded extended range lariat that stickers at 83k for 53k. 4. My truck does has the bed scales, the smart tow package, the 11,000 towing capacity and a payload capacity that is higher than most F150s, but I'm not sure what load capacity means. Not to mention, EVs aren't effected as much by way and rolling resistance as they are by drag. I can load the bed up and still get more than 200miles in range, but if I put an empty big box trailer behind it on the freeway, I'm down to 100 miles. I can get 300 miles of range empty. 5. I do speed limit+8, so 73-83 6. My audi is stage 2. It does 0-60 in about 4 seconds. The truck can do closer to 3.7 seconds. Tha Audi has much , much better emergency handling. The truck is borderline dangerous in it's ability to get faster than it can handle, in a short amount of time.
Guy sounds like a teenager who makes bad decisions. If you’re “trying it out” just lease or rent one out for a week to see how it suits you. Did you pay cash for the truck and took a massive loss after 6 months or what? Most EVs are horrible at holding value that’s why a lease is considered
Dude admitted he drives always with the windows down after AND before complaining about range. Bitched about noise with windows down ON HIGHWAY! .60 per kwh? .14 where I am. Dude doesn't travel, we now know that. BTW, .14 is considered high for my state. It is extremely doubtful this guy is an actual owner. Oh, one more thing, did he actually say he missed the old days with no ability to upgrade software? And STOP smacking those sausage palms together!
- I had a 2018 f150 with a window that opened in the back and I could drive at 90mph without any crazy unbearable wind noise. I also drive ALL my cars with windows down, highway or not. That’s how I prefer to drive, and this truck made it unbearable to do that. - .60 per KWH at PUBLIC chargers, at home mine is roughly .25ish after all extra delivery charges etc (you can’t only calculate KWH rate as there is more to it than that) - yes, multiple times the truck started driving weird and loss of power, CEL came on, etc, because of an update. Call me crazy, but I’d prefer the car to drive normal all the time without issues with updates. It’s a vehicle, not a phone. - I do admit I smacked my hands together too much in this vid, learned from it and haven’t done it since
@@Freeway_Media Good on you and the smacking. I'm two years in on my Mach-E performance and haven't had a hitch. Charge at home. If you're a road tripper, only the Tesla network will do. Whether it a gas 150 or electric, it's still a truck. The gas version has a 23 gallon or 36 gallons. That's a huge tank; that's 111.00 in my neck of the woods. I'm about to pick up my brand-new Flash, which is a truck for people who WANT a truck but doesn't NEED one. I anticipate updates because I love my car improving after purchase. You were born too late. You'd LOVE 1979. Too much politics. Drive what you like. Most people who go electric seldom go back to ICE cars. You're a rarer breed. Good luck with your channel. I know it's a process.
Never, ever buy an electric vehicle without a garage to store it in and a home to charge it at. If someone buys a 80-100K EV and do not have a home, they need to get their priorities straight. I have the Hummer EV SUV, it is garaged kept and in Florida, FPL offers $31.00 per month unlimited charging. It was a no brainer to get an EV. I save over $500 a month is gas alone and drive the best looking SUV on the market. My Hellcat Redeye and C8 vert are collecting dust. I ordered the Electric Charger Stage 2 just an hour ago. I will be fully Electric within a year. I charge my Hummer every night to 80% and leave the house with 280 miles range. If on a road trip more than 300 miles, the trip planner routes me to FPL Evolution or Electrify American charging stations and I pay .30c/kw (FPL) and .42c/kw (EA). Not ideal, but quite doable a couple of times per year. 850 HP in the Hummer is Insane and I get 65 mpg equivalent, crazy numbers for a 9000 lbs. SUV
@FreewayMedia, Do you seriously prefer to take the truck to a dealer and fix issues, vs do an OTA update? these updates add features and fix issues, Ford ICE trucks also get these updates the same way, but are less effective. This video is full of subjective opinions not information. as someone with a 23 Lariat ER, I disagree with most of the things you said. I wish you luck on your content creation journey,
I traded in my 5.0 F150 for this and couldn’t be happier. I save so much on fuel and this is way more comfortable and practical. I’d argue the “soul” of a vehicle is overrated complete nonsense outside of sports/vintage cars- my old F150 made some nice sounds, but paired with a 10spd automatic did absolutely nothing for me.
I did not hear a real reason to give up the truck . You did a couple of super charging. You have alternative gas vehicles for road trips . Your home charger installation might be expensive but it's installed and done so that doesn't matter . You don't seem to be the type of trailer person but if you are I stand to be corrected . Independent suspension not ever seen on a ford pickup should be a dream to drive . Why would you have your windows open while you drive to breath in the car exhaust which is toxic ? I am sure it also affects range negatively. You only had one minor electronic glitch ? Wow that's impressive with all the warranty issues we see with new vehicles . Reliability is the top of the list of desire by vehicle owners . I see it as a well suited vehicle for your lifestyle . I am sorry to have to say this all new vehicles are not simple and use software updates. Companies have figured they can make money off subscription services . My 20 year vehicles don't have any of that but that has gone with the age of the dinosaur and I presume you would not want to go back to that
Your third sentence is a HUGE part of why too… I am trying to do a ton of car content, so it doesn’t make sense for me to drive the lightning to “save money on gas” when I need to drive my other cars. It also was very expensive! That also played a big role!
"The high cost of charging" just made me laugh. You paid money for an EVSE to be installed .. congrats, that costs money, the same thing would happen if you had to install a fuel pump at your home.
Please place your mic up higher on your collar because you speak with your knuckles and all I could hear every other second was you plopping your knuckles into your other hand, creating a clapping noise which was very distracting. Other than that you have great content and even greater dad level calves.
Clearly young man, you didn’t do your homework before shelling out tens of thousands of dollars. lol. Honestly the only surprise I’ve gotten since getting this truck is that gas has dropped about 70 cents. So far it has lived up to everything I hoped it would. 10k miles troublefree thus far. XLT. But everyone has the right to change their mind or seek the car they prefer.
You complain about the infrastructure you should learn some history of the first ICE vehicles. Where the only place you could get fuel is hardware stores and not all hardware stores had fuel. The range was terrible the roads were terrible they were noisy they put out a lot of smoke. People complained about them. They made comments about how their horses never breaks down an can take them anywhere they want to go and fuel was everywhere and anywhere you stopped and sometimes for free. At some point the EV's will replace the ICE's maybe in 20 to 30 years just like ICE's replaced the horse and buggy. So you can either be a pioneer or the masses that always complain about everything new and stay in the olden days.
Tried being a pioneer, wasn’t for me. I’ve owned a Chevy volt and now this, and I will say… hybrid is 100% the future. All electric is NOT. That’s why supercars are doing hybrid as well, it’s the perfect balance.
EVs aren't revolutionary like ICE vehicles were. They were a massive upgrade from horse and buggy. Going to an EV from an ICE truck is like trading in a horse for a donkey. Other than fuel cost savings they don't make your life easier or better. Maybe in the future when they're equal to ICE vehicles (range and recharge times / refueling) people will make the switch.
I think lack of research was your problem and you'd have been better off buying the F-150 hybrid that probably would have been closer to the videos that you have on your Channel you were right though buying a used one is a good idea but also when you brought that F-150 Lightning you should have got anywhere from 10 to 7% off from the dealer and you should have never go in to a dealership starting negotiations online to get the best price out the door. Ford are doing some really good incentives right now 0% financing for 60 months and a free 80 amp charger with installation until the end of November DC fast charging you need the app whether that's the Tesla app or Electrify America app and that will give you a cheaper rate you do have to pay a small fee so if you're doing a lot of road trips then it's worth charging at home is the cheapest way to go I have an EV and I'm looking to buy an F-150 Lightning as an additional vehicle for my company used, it cost me $32 a month now to charge my vehicle at home I would spending on average $95.00 a week as small business owner that's a huge saving You have two additional EV trucks to choose from now Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV both will do 440 miles
It wasn’t a lack of research but a complete change in opinion. I knew most of this stuff before purchasing the truck. I also got it for a great deal (the deals aren’t actually that good if you consider how much the car is worth AFTER you buy it). Simply change in opinion and what I’m doing with my life mainly.
“it’s annoying to update my vehicle” Update it overnight like a sensible human and you will never notice it even updated. Also, if you waited or just ordered a tesla adapter you would never need to use a public charger again. Tesla is superior, cheaper, hassle free, and overall a game changer. Do you research before making the vehicle seem like a bad product when your “issues” very avoidable
So I ran the math where I live, charging this thing at night would be about $5 CAD. Gas for a 400km trip in a gas F150 here would definitely be more than ten times a much. I don't know how bad things are in Ohio but.... I feel like this guy isn't great with math.
At 20 cents per KWH (you HAVE to include delivery fees, etc that are included on your bill NOT just KWH cost), add loss on top as well (for ease of math we won’t) at 100KWH that’s $20 for 100KWH. At 100KWH with a use of about 1.8MI/KWH (what I got highway, what I mostly drive) that’s $20 for 180 miles. Now let’s talk gas. At a cost of $3 per gallon, at 20 miles per gallon, that would mean you need about 9 gallons of gas for a 180 miles. That’s $27 compared to $20 of electric (without loss). So gas is $7 more for 180 miles. Now, factor in a trip that is more than the ~250 miles you can travel on electric, meaning you will HAVE to stop and charge publicly. At an avg cost of roughly 60 cents per kWh, let’s triple the cost of that $20 for 100kwh, now it’s $60 for 100KWH aka 180 miles. Which is more than double the $27 for 180 miles in a gas truck. So let’s do an avg trip of 360 miles. In a gas truck, that will be $54. In the EV (in perfect conditions) the same trip will cost $80. Not only that but you will also have to stop to charge for about an hour as well as hope you can find a charging station.
@ wait are you saying you include delivery fees because your house wouldn’t be connected to the electrical grid if you bought a gas F150? I also googled this quickly and it seems like most people are paying closer to $0.08 per kilowatt. Comparing with Ontario, my overnight charge rate is 2.8 cents CAD per kilowatt between 11pm and 7am, which is when you set the thing to charge every day. So at 131 kilowatts that’s about $3.70 to charge the truck. I’m not including hook-up charge because like I said, I have lights in my house that have to be up regardless of what car I drive. So that’s $3.70 to drive about 250-300 miles. Gas price here is 150 cents per litre, about $4.05 per gallon. Being conservative with a 20 MPG that’s 15 gallons that is $60. So running a gas truck is about 15x as expensive here. Public chargers are expensive but everyone I know with an EV charges at home and uses them very rarely. In any case the math above more than makes up for it.
Right, per KW.. there’s fees on top of that on everyone’s bill that usually more than doubles the real cost of each KW. For example, mine was “9 cents per KW” however after delivery fees etc it was actually 21 cents. If you are TRULY paying less than 3 cents per KW then go right ahead and use an EV. Also, the truth if the matter is for my personal experience I ended up paying not only more in travel fees (gas vs electric) but the truck itself was 3.5x the cost of my last gas truck per month. For ME (the point of the video) the truck made zero financial sense as well as content sense moving forward. Of course I charged my truck at my house as well, however there were multiple times I was stuck having to charge publicly and pay much more as well as wait to charge and hope the chargers were working. I personally never had a charger not work but the fact that could happen scared me as well.
@ wait so are the delivery fees variable on your bill or fixed amount for hookup to the house? For me delivery fees are a fixed hookup cost. How much I draw is the variable amount after. They are obnoxiously high but they are a sunk cost. And yeah they double the bill effectively.
@@Freeway_Media If you're paying 20 cents per kWh in Ohio you are getting RIPPED. I pay 8 cents all in (delivery and generation), and thats a pretty normal rate at this point.
You really should have done some research before you bought a EV! I have had my Lightning for about 15 months with zero problems. First of all, don’t buy a EV if you have to rely on public charging. Get a home level 2 charger which now comes free with the Lightning. Charging at home is a lot cheaper, I pay .06 cents per kilowatt. I use to pay on average about $120 every two weeks on my gas F150. I now pay about $35 dollars a month of electricity with my Lightning. For my first year driving my Lightning I spent $450 of electricity. That’s $2,670 savings not buying gasoline. As far as the updates, mine are set to atomic update at night while I’m sleeping. Your analogy of it drives like a go cart is so incredibly stupid! The Lighting is incredibly quick and responsive and will set you back in your seat like a sports car. It will do 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. As far as the ride goes it’s not that much different from my gas F150. You are spot on about the range and the miles per kilowatt, although I don’t drive far to work and back I still have no problem with range. I have no problem driving 75 miles to the twin cities and back on a charge in the winter. If you are someone who drives more than 200 miles a day a EV isn’t for you. As far as breakdowns go electric motors are far less likely to fail than I.C.E cars are. EV’s have on average about 30,000 less parts. I also can have my truck on in my garage with all the doors closed without dying of carbon monoxide poisoning!
So glad I just purchased a 2024 Chevy 2500 ZR2. Gas is the way to go. I can fill up in 5 minutes and have over 400 miles of range. My tailgate is remote too. It also closes with the touch of a button.
This review is really lame. I ended up, with great hesitation, leasing a 2024 Lightning Flash trim and have been blown away with what this vehicle has to offer and I'm saying this living in Northern NY driving mostly in the Winter. Yes, I will own a Ram Charger once it is released but this is the best EV truck available currently which includes the Cybertruck, Silverado and Rivian R1T.
This kid has no idea what he’s talking about. My lvl 2 home charger costs .03 per kWh. I spend a tiny fraction to “fuel” my EV vs what I used to spend on gas. If you’re frequently taking cross country road trips or towing a 10,000 lb trailer every day obviously the Lightning is not for you.
I actually do know what I’m talking about, and clearly more than you. Also “cross country road trips” is a stretch. For example. My grandpa lives 100 miles away. That’s 200 mile round trip. If I want to go literally anywhere else during this trip, I’d have to stop to charge. Which in fact I had to do TWICE. Both times I took this truck there. Your price per KWH is not your TRUE cost, look at your bill and do the math yourself (if you can do math.) also everyone has different costs. Saying I have no idea what I’m talking about when every single thing I said in this video is accurate, is just being naive.
You, sir, aren't fixing any truck! You didn't post any price comparison on what you paid for the TRUCK vs. other ICE crew cabs uxury trims. You didn't post what your electric bill per kwh vs. gas prices in your area, let alone what you paid for the in home charging instillation. You just gave "it's expensive". You want to haul stuff? Why not just buy an eco-diseal? Call it a day!
This wasn’t meant to be a super in depth video about all the stats that come with owning an EV, rather my specific experience with it and what impacted my decision to sell it
We really like our lightning, but we have a different use case- we needed something faster than a TRX (family members truck). A flash is currently half the price of a TRX - a true bargain
These are $30k below MSRP here in Canada. No one is buying them or even leasing them. Its a wasted piece of metal in 2 to 3 years when that battery dies.
So basically all your dislikes are things that are very well known if you do basic research. So many people bash EVs because they don’t take the time to research what they are paying 90k + on, I just don’t get it.
I wonder why you even bothered to buy it if it was this bad. No soul in a 500hp truck ? Who cares... put your MAGA hat back on. You are luck to be in a place to waste money like you did on something that nice. I look forward to a day when I can waste money like that.
Such a disingenuous video. Almost every point was off. I live in northern Canada and my nearest major city is hours away. With the tesla network now its very easy.
I buy a vehicle, I want the vehicle I purchased .... not an upgraded one! 🤣😂😂 "It's not a phone!" ...... ummm EV or not ..... ALL new vehicles are a cell phone on wheels. Dude, EV's are not for you ..... with a little research before buying one, you could of saved yourself alot of $$
My opinion just changed over time after owning it. I did a ton of research before buying, I’m just making the points that affected my decision to sell so others can maybe learn from it.
Test drive a Lightning. You might be surprised. Remember going from a flip phone to the iPhone? Like that but better. Then again, some people still have land lines
I can honestly side with this! We had a plug in hybrid before (the Chevy volt) and it was great. However I also did have a major issue with that car that did leave me stranddd a couple times, even with only 75k miles (hybrid control module)
I live in Florida. FPL has a program get unlimited charging for just 38$ a month. It does only apply between 9pm and 5AM and weekends. Overall I love my Lightning. Drives smooth and is super helpful when I’m working around the house or tailgating
So many of these “why I’m selling my Lightning” are obvious that the owner did nearly zero research before buying.
Anything.
I don't think anybody will submit this video as proof of such.
I find it amazing that he was upset that he got an OTA update?
In this day and age the fact that a company updates and supports its product is amazing.
A lot of these complaints are not really specific to the Lightning, and a bit of planning could absolutely negate any of the downsides you have brought up.
They were realized negatives from the beginning mostly. Just had a change of heart after owning it for 6 months.
So a full charge would cost you under $8. In my gas F150 that same distance of driving would cost almost $70.
@@Astrand1 except I have an ext range battery. Rare as hens teeth, but I have one.
Interesting thoughts. Where are you trading it in?
Also the Ford Pro Station is overkill unless you plan on powering your home. I just use the NEMA 14-50 outlet and electrician only charge me 150$ to install in the garage. Your limited to 35amps but way more than enough to charge up completely over night.
I do long distance drives multiple times a day (hundreds of miles) so it’s nice to be able to get that quick charge when needed.
Gave me more reasons to actually buy one since he had no idea what he needed the Lightning for lol
One of the worst reviews I’ve seen. Kid didn’t do research. Gas/toy vehicle clearly suits his life. Constantly talks out of both sides of his mouth. Yikes. 😂
It’s not a review, it’s why I regret buying it… yikes 😳
Yes he said it is a review...."2023 Ford F150 Lightning review! These are the reasons why I regret buying an electric vehicle, especially a truck!" YIKES LOL!! He forgot what he even typed!
I have a lariat and it doesn’t bounce while driving. If you are looking to get a gel at, no truck is for you. This is t for people that drive 600 miles all the time. My truck saves me $10,000 a year in fuel and oil.
Why can’t you charge at your grandpa’s house? Doesn’t he have 220V? I’ve used my brother’s dryer outlet for weeks at a time. ( Model Y & Bolt)
there's big rebates for those chargers and installation. should cost you almost nothing
Got the charger for free, installation is not free. Rebates are on the truck (at least when I purchased it)
I live in Florida.
Yes.
I’m gonna make a video called “I regret jumping into a lake because it got me all wet”.
Wow! I disagree with just about everything in this. I’ve owned an ev for 4 years.
What do you disagree with and what is your reasoning that you disagree
Well unfortunately that’s not how it works, I own the truck and have seen it happen with my own eyes haha
the air conditioning takes away 30% of range.
@@jonmarshall3414 Out Of Spec Reviews on TH-cam.
Just sounds to me like someone didn’t take the time to look up detail and just got the truck because it was new, shiny and electric.
Quite the opposite actually. Just lost interest in the truck and changed what I’m doing with my life. A lot can change in 6 months!
You are clearly a person that is not ready to move to EVs. And it's unfortunate that it stains what EVs are. It's your experience and expectations, but you really need to do more research and learn what EVs are about and how they would fit your needs.
Is it safe to advertise how much copper you have on your garage wall?
Is it safe to try to steal stuff where the 2nd amendment exists?
Wow. You're... well, I'll just say that you are wrong on so many fronts and have no clue. I love my Lighting.
That’s…. Why I regret buying it…..????
I don’t live in an apartment and I do have the ford level 2 charger installed, did you watch the video?
Also I don’t really understand what you mean by “instant gratification” I don’t think it’s too much for me to just simply not like the idea of owning an electric vehicle anymore. I want a normal, gas vehicle that doesn’t have all these weird issues and needs.
@@Freeway_Media I did not say you specifically? And yes I did...
Ah I see how I misread there, my bad. Yeah if you had no personal way to charge an EV is definitely not an option
If you can't home charge (level 2), you'll be paying a lot more per kwh. Like tap and Fiji bottled water difference
This guy doesn’t do his research, u drive a 2023 ford lightning. I absolutely love it. I have had it for 4 months and have 15,000 miles on it already. No problems and I use it for work! This guy is a nerd
Or, we just have different opinions
lol. This is the worst video I’ve seen on these. I don’t own an EV, but your complaints are the most obvious. Did you know absolutely nothing about and do absolutely no research prior to buying? Sounds like it.
Or maybe my opinions changed, crazy right??
It’s almost as if EVs are completely new and the only way to get the true feel for if YOU like them is if YOU own one
So basically you can’t charge the truck, and that’s the problem????
Did you watch the video….?
Sounds like you had no plan of liking an EV in the first place.
Yeah man, that’s totally why I bought one!! Knew I wouldn’t like it so I purchased a brand new one, great idea!
@ yeah you are something else

I mean this comment with intent to inform
1. Double check your bill. Sure, the price per KWH might be 7 (mine is 8) however, there are a lot of extras that make the real cost per KWH much more.
2. I got a free 80 amp charger with the truck
3. I bought my brand new truck for nearly that… you got fleeced
4. The load capacity is much less than a gas truck (not towing) aka you can’t fill the bed as much. You also can’t go anywhere in the world with this without worrying about being able to charge.
5. I go faster than 65 on the highway
6. I have a 400whp manual b8.5 s5 and ran a faster quarter mile than the truck… manual…
@Freeway_Media
1. It's 7 and some change. There is a once a month fee, but that's there whether I have an EV or not. (I live in a red state)(My charger is smart enough to delay charging till the middle of the night.)
5. I do speed limit+8, so 73-83

- .60 per KWH at PUBLIC chargers, at home mine is roughly .25ish after all extra delivery charges etc (you can’t only calculate KWH rate as there is more to it than that)
- yes, multiple times the truck started driving weird and loss of power, CEL came on, etc, because of an update.
Gas prices are always manipulated just before elections. They’ll go back up quickly in mid November.
Nice video and all main pros and cons are well summarized!
Thanks!
Legit the best way to describe a ev to a person who isn't familiar is this is a cellphone on wheels: software updates over service appointments
Please place your mic up higher on your collar because you speak with your knuckles and all I could hear every other second was you plopping your knuckles into your other hand, creating a clapping noise which was very distracting. Other than that you have great content and even greater dad level calves.
I actually noticed that while editing too, next time I’ll be sure to not clap while talking haha! Thank you lol
My life changed drastically since I bought it which also plays a part. Like I said, great vehicle, just not for me anymore
Thanks for the honest rewiew... I'll go and buy gas Chevy silverado trail boss...
Smart choice 🤝 this lightning is no longer in my driveway
When you buy a vehicle do your research, my neighbor has one and he loves it, he only pays 16 cent per kilowatt.
I only pay 18 cents per KW. My research what correct but it’s just not what I need anymore. Loved it while I had it but now I regret buying it
“it’s annoying to update my vehicle” Update it overnight like a sensible human and you will never notice it even updated.
Yawn 🥱
Agreed super boring car
Sadly young man, it's the review
So you don't understand electric vehicles ? lol
Oh I understand them, I understand they are overrated and not the future
He clearly does not!
It’s not a review, it’s why I regret buying the truck
Updating a vehicle is normal in the EV world
Count me out….
Yeah these things are fast! The TRX is also a great truck but gets u believe 6mpg? Can’t beat a supercharged v8 tho in some cases
You needed something faster?
What are you chasing???
These are $30k below MSRP here in Canada. No one is buying them or even leasing them. Its a wasted piece of metal in 2 to 3 years when that battery dies.
Except they have 8 year warranties on the batteries....so it would get replaced for free.
100% wrong. They do NOT die in 2 to 3 years.
7k in 6 months and he thinks he drives a lot 😂
I also have 3 other vehicles and 2 motorcycles. That’s why I’m saying it’s a lot lol considering I drive other stuff as well!
@@Freeway_Media yes I saw it, but that doesn’t mean that particular truck was driven a lot. You drove a lot, just different vehicles.
Napoleon Dynamite doesn’t like the lightning.
Bro this made my day, my mom used to call me that when I was like 8 I swear lol
So basically all your dislikes are things that are very well known if you do basic research. So many people bash EVs because they don’t take the time to research what they are paying 90k + on, I just don’t get it.
Nowhere near 90k, and I did extensive research. Just because I may have knew these things, doesn’t mean they can’t be reasons I regret buying.
My 2001 Dodge Ram runs propane or gasoline, so I get to run on cheap propane in the summer and cheap gas in the winter. 80k miles, bought at 60k.
"It's not a phone!" ...... ummm EV or not .....
Worst video I’ve seen on the lightning. Just for clicks. Shameful man.
Only video that is honest. Live in your fantasy world if you want. Shameful.
Once again… proof that plug-in hybrids are way to go… until the batteries get lighter and go longer…!
I have a 2007 Chevy Avalanche with a 31 gallon tank. I'm better off with it. 😂
Test drive a Lightning. You might be surprised. Remember going from a flip phone to the iPhone? Like that but better. Then again, some people still have land lines
Your 12...come back and give truck opinions when you have a few years of ownership under your belt.
Sounding like a boomer
Honestly got me there lol
Your a winer 😢, stop already
Omg please forgive me for expecting more from a $60k+ truck 😢
Everyone I’ve talked to regrets buying one of these. Electric cars are a fad that is just about over.
I completely agree. I think I’m done with electric ⚡️.
If anything I’ll get a Plug-In Hybrid but def not going back to full electric
@@masterhomeguru2064 I mean a RAV4 Hybrid will get you 50mpg. Can’t get much better than that
I can honestly side with this! We had a plug in hybrid before (the Chevy volt) and it was great. However I also did have a major issue with that car that did leave me stranddd a couple times, even with only 75k miles (hybrid control module)
Yo have something against clean air?
Actually you can get much better than that
I live in Florida. FPL has a program get unlimited charging for just 38$ a month. It does only apply between 9pm and 5AM and weekends. Overall I love my Lightning. Drives smooth and is super helpful when I’m working around the house or tailgating
