The one thing I love is that ford kept the classic F-150 look. It’s not some funky crossover like most EV’s are. Gotta give Ford props for that. I considered it but I wouldn’t make use of a truck with my current health, so I got a Model 3 Tesla.
I see what you are saying but my issue with most EVs not Tesla is they still design it like it has an engine. Big fake grill air vents things like that. I know the CyberTruck is crazy looking but at least it is something that people will know right away vs most trucks today look like they were designed by the same person with different names on it. 😟
I appreciate the honest evaluation of the vehicle. The biggest issues I had with my 2023 XLT Lightning were also software related. Unlike your truck, mine had not received any updates. That is why I took it upon myself to purchase a 2 day FDRS license from Ford and apply the updates myself. Many of the issues you mentioned were affecting my truck as well and are now fixed. Ford is very conservative when it comes to the roll out schedule for updates, just as they are with range estimates. It is possible that the updates to fix your issues are available, but have not yet been pushed to your truck. There are members on several F150 and Lightning forums that can check your VIN to see what is available. There are also folks willing to loan the necessary programming cable for the cost of shipping. Hopefully you can get your issues fixed and continue to enjoy your truck.
Shut up. "I appreciate your honesty ". He is a son of a comunist party member. He bought it, investigated and reported only the negative. Don't fall for his influence.
Dealership service centers have generally become horrible in my experience. I totally understand the motivation to sell. They’ve always been an expensive option, but now you can’t even trust that they’ll do the work they are charging you for. It really leads toward another conversation about what direction that industry is taking overall. Happy for you that Carmax wholesale offer was that high;
And it's also a downside of EVs. You have less choice in mechanics. There are good ones out there, and great dealerships as well, but the more choice the better, to make everyone competitive and so you don't have to drive an hour to find a good option.
I put a lot of thought into my purchase. I put a long time into waiting the day they opened orders for this. I got my name on the list and waited, waited and waited. I had many opportunities to walk out on this. I labored over it. I had always wanted a truck but the way I drive, gas would have bankrupted me. I put a ton of miles on a vehicle daily / monthly / yearly. It's my office. I like new stuff, I like cool factor, I like durability, I like something I can beat the crap out of or at least try (its a clean machine). I bought it for use. Its got over 40K. I bought it for utility, versatility, some aesthetic and some cool shit. It's fast! Its comfy, Is effin amazing and i use the hell out of it. Do some things annoy me? Who is not annoyed about something? Can it be better, product and service? Yes. Ford and GM are not marketing this vehicle right and some youtubers or tick tokers are hammering it. GM is not marketing their EV's right either (at least I have not heard of them other than hearsay). This vehicle, it truly is an amazing machine. People knock it a lot who don't even own it. Its gonna have issues between operation (temperature / range / charging) and frankly all EV's do! You plan, adapt and overcome. You have to un-think how the ICE works and think how an EV's work. Any vehicle I wanted, fully loaded would have cost this or close the Lariat ER I drive. But then I would have to pay for gas. My bill is less than half what ICE would be. I love my truck and I guess that's good cause its gonna be with me a long time or the end of the battery life, whichever comes first.
Last week a sales guy at Ford told me the new battery costs $45,000. He also told me that we don’t recommend people tow with the Lightning. As a Minnesota contractor pulling a 6000 pound trailer everyday, an EV truck is a job ender. Hopefully you didn’t pay a premium for your truck. With dealerships drowning in Lightnings and 40K mileage on yours I bet you couldn’t sell it for $.50 on the dollar if you were in a bind.
Dude in the video just said CarMax is giving him over $40k for his with similar milage. That's about $.70 on the dolar. EVs are trendy and demand is high so it won't be hard at all to get over $.50 on the dollar. @@DuffyGabi
Absolutely agree with your software/dealership issues. The truck has been great so far, but we've only had our XLT for 2 months and all I can say about the software is 'meh/buggy'. We also had to return our Ford Mobile charger because it stopped working (truck was fine), and instead of sending us a return/replacement label support staff wanted us to drive it to a parts service center because the charger is considered a 'part'. For a WARRENTY replacement!! Absolutely ridiculous, and only certain dealerships are considered a 'parts' dealership. The truck is nice and comfy, but we're not buying any accessories from Ford ever again.
Yeh it's frustrating. Ford manufacturing worked hard and gave us a decent product. Sad to see some dealerships diminish that hard work. I hope Ford realizes that their image is heavily dealership dependent. Thanks for sharing about your experience.
You don't want to hear about my Maverick Accessories issue. I have an email chain dating back to June 2023, I bought a Maverick plastic tailgate cover on the inside with points, was missing the bolts, had to visit dealership for pickup (3-4 times and they still never even sent it back yet! Had to call 10+ times), I'm still awaiting refund on pts!!! I ended up buying, again the same part but paid to deliver to my house and it worked out, but still waiting for refund on points!
Thanks for your videos, I’ve purchased a xlt 2023. So far love it, the cold winter is challenging with power/km range. But overall meets my family needs and have no complaints . Keep up the great videos, from up North Canada.
Thanks for watching from up north! Oh it's an awesome family vehicle. Glad to hear you're loving it. So, when I said 8 degrees, you probably thought that was T-shirt weather... So thought my truck apparently. LOL
I own it for a year now.. 27k miles on mine.. no issues... drives likes dream.. winter limits the rage though. haul 1800lb easy barely effects the range, but no towing... anything heavy range goes down by 50%. if someone considering make sure you have a home charger, nobody should buy EV without home charger unless you wanna find out the waiting line when you pull up to EV charger between normal usage hours. Range anxiety is real when you leave big cities and going somewhere remote. Lasting thing not all EV chargers priced fairly, in fact they charge you triple if you have no other choice to charge with them. Yeah.
I have a Chevy Bolt and a Model 3 Performance and I agree wholeheartedly with everything here. The larger battery is really kinda mandatory for something that can gobble up kilowatts like a truck can.
wow... I have had mine almost as long as you. I did get a Lariat, cause it was the only one I could order. My dealership has been great with updates and 1 yaar checkup. Same day for everything and maybe a week wait to get an appt. I don't think there are many other Lightnings here in Modesto, CA, but they have taken care of me and the truck. I don't live in really brutal weather in winter, lowest is 30's but not often. I do have a garage but I am only Level 1 charging. I have been able to charge to 100% when I do charge up before a trip. I know it's the best vehicle I have ever had, and I wouldn't sell it. At 13K miles so far, I will see what next year brings for it and me. I appreciate your videos. I remember well your 1st video with your Lightning! Best wishes!
Time flies! I'm glad to hear that your dealership has been treating you well. That's so important. Lowest being 30s sounds wonderful! This channel will still push on when I get my next EV. I am very grateful to have this channel. Thank you so much.
The only cons I have are the software issues/UI. Other than that, the truck is phenomenal. In my first year I have over 23,000 miles. It’s my favorite vehicle I’ve had. If you can’t charge around home, EVs aren’t going to work well for your day to day. Also- Measuring degradation shouldn’t be done through the guess-o-meter. The best way is to drive near 0%, charge to 100%, and see how many kWh it added to the pack.
Thanks for the videos! I got my Lightning lariat about a year ago. It’s been great overall. The software needs some updates but the over the air ones have helped. They redid the settings menu, added the camera button on the sync 4a screen and the battery % on the dash. It’s provided power for my family three times this year during power outages (keeping my sump pump and fridge running). The frunk is my favorite part, it’s been very helpful. Just removed the annoying beeping speaker a few weeks ago and it’s so much better. I got tired of announcing to my neighbors when I had to open/close it, especially early morning or late at night.
Hey Mike. Great to hear you're getting a good use out of your truck. Haha, yes that frunk beeping is straight out of an Amazon van backing up sound effects. Probably one of the last thing Ford will update to change. You did the right thing. 😄👍
I feel like your dislikes were 95% software stuff that you are over aware of due to your job, that wouldn’t bug most people, and your dealer experience. Not really upset with the truck itself and its actual drive ability and performance?
You're right. I would even consider myself picky, but I had to be honest and talk about my experience. Most news and media won't cover this kind of topic. It is granular and it doesn't make the person cool talking about it. In the grand scheme of things, now you have all the information between big media and small timers to be fully aware about this truck's total experience.
Just picked up the 2023 XLT in November. As of now, I absolutely love this Truck. They may not be for everyone, but it is perfect for my needs. Should they be the only option? Nope!. But they are an awesome action to have.
@@EVTruckLOG most definitely. Just a month into it, and nearly 2K miles, we’ve made 2 Vegas trips, Disney Land, and a ton of around town mileage. The type two home charger is a huge plus. At 40amps, it’ll charge roughly 22 miles per hour, which is plenty for the day to day tasks. Thanks for your Vids. They played a huge role into our purchase.
Just adding to my previous comment. My Wife and I ended up loving the Lightning so much, I had decided to trade away my recently purchased Silverado, and as of January 5th of this year, now have two XLT 2023 Lightnings. For the type of driving we do, with furthest travels being 200 miles (Las Vegas), this was an easy decision. My drives her Avalanche color, while I elected the Carbonized Gray Metallic. Both are SR batteries, which is more than enough for our day to day driving.
Hey great video , thank you for uploading. You keep pointing to your videos “right here” and nothing pops up. I’m looking from phone view, not sure if it pops up on laptop view. You may want to double check your TH-cam studios and make sure your videos are aligned where you want them to be 😃
Excellent presentation. Thank you. Honestly, 20% depreciation is roughly normal for the first year on new trucks. Would probably be another 20% in the next year. With Ford drastically scaling back production on that truck due to poor sales, I am really surprised that the depreciation wasn't far worse. In general, for most real truck people that use their trucks as trucks, the Lightning is just not a very good truck at this point. We will see how folks really feel about them after driving them for 5-7 years and putting 150,000 miles on them. I have put over 200,000 on every truck I have ever owned with my current one having 320,000 and still going strong while looking and driving practically new still.
Just to be clear for some people reading this...they are not cutting production, it is actually increasing. It's just not increasing as much as they had planned. They were going to increase to 3200 units a week, now they are only increasing to 1600 units a week to be closer to demand.
@@lenm2857Not accurate. They produced 4400 in November 2023. Ford was forecasting 3200 per month in 2024 and revised that to 1600. Clearly a 50%+ cut in production numbers from late 2023. These are raw production numbers and not “increases from a base”.
@@markmonroe7330 No, they were going to produce 3200 a WEEK in 2024, but backed off to 1600 a week, which is close to 7,000 a month. They sold 4400 in November (which was a record, beating Oct. 3700 sales, which was the previous record). Still an increase, just not as much as they had planned.
@@lenm2857 I meant to say week. My bad. Bottom line is that production is being cut in half for 2024 both from actual 2023 numbers and what they had originally forecasted.
Very informative video! I just traded in my 2020 Tesla Model X on a new Lariat Lightning and am loving it! Initial impressions at 1 month of ownership: --the Lightning has a much smoother and quieter ride. --the Model X UI was MUCH better. At the risk of alienating Samsung phone users, the Model X was OS, while the Lightning is Android. Hopefully, UI issues will be addressed via updates so I won't have to do so much menu-diving. Once again, thanks for a great video, Liked & Subscribed!
Coming up on my first year of ownership (January 18th 🎉🎉🎉) of my XLT 311a. While my truck doesn't fit in my garage I do have a level 2 charger which helps me not have the problem on colder nights that your having. Also preconditioning the cabin is a game changer getting into a warm truck with the glass and mirrors being frost free every morning. Its a bummer that you had some early build quality issues and bad service experience
Happy almost one year anniversary. 🎉🎉🎉 I fully understand the benefit of the home level 2 charger now. I forgot to mention about the pre-conditioning. That feature is awesome.
Thank you for the honest assessment. We have a 2023 Lighting Lariat with 5K miles. So far, so good. We do have a great local Ford dealership that is very good to work with.
Thanks for watching! So glad to hear that. I feel like the dealership is a good part of the ownership experience. The truck itself is mechanically awesome. I'm sure you'll make plenty of great memories with it. 😀🙌
I have a 2022 Lariat Extended Range with almost 20,000 miles on it. Best truck I've ever owned. I had one rattle which I traced down to a loose trim panel on the passenger front door. My only complaint is the inconsistent Android Auto connection. I have found that towing is not a problem, AERODYNAMICS is a problem. Any tall trailer, or tall item in a small trailer will really cut range.
Im a 2022 xlt standard battery owner as well. Unfortunately had to get a battery module replaced due to a bad cell @ my 10,000 mile check up! Wasn't even experiencing any issues. Took 6 weeks to get the module and less than 6hrs to replace! Other than that ridiculous amount of down time and the glitchy software I love the truck. Kids and wife are also enthralled with it. From north central Illinois.
I have over 10,000 miles on Lightning Pro and still loving it. It’s my work truck, personal truck and I do a fair amount of towing. Works great in the mountains.
What do you tow? I get annoyed that reviews are with huge campers over the road, instead of local work trucks. I daily pull a 7,000 pound trailer 15-30 miles in city traffic. I'd assume lots of power and regen would make it the perfect local work truck.
@@merrittrenovations6547 I tow a 16’ cargo trailer that’s probably around 7,000 lbs. mostly local. Somewhere around 10-20 miles max per day as a work trailer. Occasionally we tow a 18’ camp trailer on the mountain but there again it’s only 10-20 miles. It works perfectly for most of what I do. Sometimes I wish I had an extra 100-200 miles of range.
Crazy how peoples experiences are so different. I wouldn’t trade in my F150 lightning for anything including the cyber truck. And I’m a Tesla owner. I’ve had my lightning for just about as long as you’ve had yours. I have experience in being an early adopter, and I have the patience of dealing with the oddities of getting a new electric vehicle, I would have to admit, if I had serious problems like battery issues or things of that sort, I would probably trade it in simply because it would be too much and disrupt my work and family life but lucky for me, my experiences have been very minor. Overall, this vehicle is one of the best I’ve ever had…. comfort, speed, power, QUIETNESS….it all works. Wish you had the same experience, I’ve been watching your videos and you provide good information. It’s a shame you’re letting it go so early. Hope you don’t regret it but I think you just might.
Hey thanks for watching early on. I really appreciate that. It's hard to explain my entire experience with the truck in one video. Of course there are other reasons why I went ahead and got a quote. It's a solid truck for sure. Oddities and even minor issues just can't be hidden and covered up when I have to document on the channel. I really do enjoy the truck where it counts.
There are tons of Lightnings on Craigslist near me with just a few thousand miles. So I am thinking that a lot more people didn't have your experience. I was looking cause I wanted one but seeing so many new trucks on Craigslist caused me to rethink it
1) Great info 2) Lithia Ford’s service center competes for the worst. 3) I think the 2024 Lightning will meet our needs on this coast. 4) Your kids are great! Keep up the adventuring. Appreciate your honest assessment!
Great video. I'm looking at a F150 Lightning to use alongside my 21 Ford Maverick. You talked about so many things that many other guys who reviewed the F150 Lightning brush over or don't talk about at all. Keep up the good work man!
Having a great dealership nearby is a blessing. EV’s don’t seem to be trouble free. I have two EV’s and they had 3-4 issues already. Tesla at home service and a fantastic Hyundai dealership 7 min away just makes my life easier.
Gotta be honest, i have over 15,000 miles on mine (Lariat) and have almost NONE of the issues that you have. I saw almost, but agree that the app vs. in-car information is a bit frustrating to be able to get information about charging is there. The truck is awesome, quiet (no rattles), powerful and spacious.
Thank you so much for your honesty. Fellow lightning SR owner who also feels the range and dealer network (not to mention abysmal state of public charging) is making me consider selling
I think you were a little too nice when talking about the OTA updates. Lol. They stink. At least as far as informing us to what was updated. They’re so incredibly vague that they may as well tell us nothing. I hope that if you sell it you go with another EV. So I have something bringing me back to your channel. My 2023 Lightning XLT SR (delivered April 6th) now has 11k miles and is problem free so far. Except for someone side swiping me a couple weeks ago in a parking lot. It’s not bad but I have yet to get an estimate. I’m looking forward to your dealership offer. Best of luck!
Hey Paul. Man, I'm sorry about the side swipe. Hopefully it's a minor scratch. Haha I do laugh at some of the description of the OTA summary. Like who is writing those summary? LOL. Whatever happens, I don't think I can go back to an ICE vehicle. I'll talk more about the future of this channel on the next video. Thanks for the support. Cheers!
Sorry to see you leave the EV family. I own a Y Performance and R1T and have never experienced what you describe. No rattles, no squeaks and no bricking. I think that's the difference between legacy manufacturers and Tesla/Rivian that start with a clean slate and took years to develop good software. I would not recommend an EV if you can't level 2 charge at home. Ford (and GM ) dealers don't really want to sell or service EVs so your experience is what I would have expected. I'm fortunate to have Rivian and Tesla service centers within 20 miles of me but haven't needed either. Also surprised you feel dealers are a plus (your comment below). Never again for me. Good luck to you. Enjoy your videos and sense of humor.
Great video. "I am not going to talk about the pros of this vehicle" ... proceeds to talk about the pros for the first 6.5 minutes. As a fellow F150 Lightning owner this was very helpful.
Owner of a 2021 Tesla Model 3 LR AWD with 76k miles. One evening the car notified me of a 12v battery issue. The virtual service advisor recommended I schedule a service center appointment to have the 12v battery replaced. Via the Tesla app I scheduled an appointment the next morning with the nearest service center. I arrived on time and offered me coffee, free wifi and a place to sit while they replaced my 12v battery and my rear trunk catch. 1 hour later I paid $188 for the parts and labor and I was on my way back home.
Vampire drain is a big problem with my model 3 and not an issue with my mach e . I’ve tried turning off the sentry mode which had reduced vampire drain but still a problem
Recently sold our 2018 Tesla Model3 and ordered an F-150 Lightning Flash. The Tesla was essentially maintenance-free - replaced wiper blades & cabin air filter. Tires replaced at 43K miles. Really no issues with the local Tesla Service Center, except that appointments sometimes had to be scheduled weeks in advance. Hoping for similar reliability from the Lightning 🤞.
Thanks, had the Pro for 9 months and loved it. upgraded to the Lariat ER and man I love it. Which truck are you getting now ? I feel like the Lightning is the best truck out there.
I’ve been to 5 Ford dealerships for Service just for a regular gas engine and they all suck. Would never buy a ford again just cause of that, it’s such a hassle. All dealerships are in Austin TX area
In November a customer brought in his f150 lightning in for a new windshield. I had to do a dynamic camera recalibration on the road and the drivers seat would NOT stop squeaking and rattling. It was so unreal! It was super quiet and real cool, but every bump, the driver seat set me off. It was driving me nuts!
Service is an issue people don’t think about. I have a 2022 Tesla model 3 and live in a small town in Southern Oregon. The closest Tesla Service center is 2 hours away. Luckily the only issue I have had was fixed by Teslas mobile service which came right to my house. Do your research before buying, your videos provide great information.
I have been in IT for 15 years and after seeing the issues that can arise from "updates" I am extremely weary of all electric vehicles. Also im waiting to see what happens when its time to change the battery or have these things recycled.
Patch Tuesday! except on computer on wheels! I would need to have some good reason to hold onto a non Tesla EV longer than my laptop. I had my "auto update' off on my truck especially before a big job I needed to drive to.
Usually the cold triggers noise. Rattles drive me nuts. I had a 2017 Ford escape, that SUV had no issues for about 85k miles. Had 2002 F250 to about 90k, very good truck & also had a 2007 E350 Quigley van with custom interior, no issue. But the 6.0l diesel was a bit loud. I know the eletric P/U is a diffrent animal. These eletric vehicles need time to progress.
I’m a hvac contractor been thinking to switch to this truck just a bit afraid of being a bad idea. I drive around 80-100 miles a day and I do have a garage to charge at home
That’s the problem with good service . . . hard to get it and they’re sooo busy! Always better to wait and get the good service rather than settle for the bad and have to go to the good anyway. Thanks for the review, because I’m interested in moving to the Lightning for my next F150. I agree that Ford needs to do some improvements asthetically and electronically/mechanically.
Awesome review, thanks👍, i so agree with the variability in Ford dealerships nationwide, fighting warranty, service delays, and lack of customer service after the fact.
I'm in construction and it works great for me. Tows my trailer great but i don't normally work a long distance from home. Hopefully someday they make one that can tow a longer distance. Is great saving around $500 a month on gas.
Where are you and how are the summers? I live where it can get over 100 degrees at full humidity for weeks during the summer, and single digits freezing your doors shut during the winter and am wondering how being in both extremes would affect the battery.
Wow if 8 degrees Fahrenheit is considered an extreme low temperature for this thing, I can only imagine how bad it would handle our minus 20 to 30 degrees celsius winters, (minus 4 to minus 22 Fahrenheit). Great video!
Great video. I got some other cons for my lighting I'm not sure other people have same issue. The bluetooth phone call some time doesn't work when I call out or getting call in, it makes noise can't hear anything, when I connected apple carplay never have that issue. the other thing is the towing mileage is really suck, I got about only 180km to 200km about 130 miles towing range(empty trailer), and one time I passed the exit by accident, it stopped on the road when it still showed 6km left, only 3km far way from charging statation, my tesla never drop me when it become "0".
Great video, I'm in the market for a lightening,so this is great info. I've been driving an EV for a few years, so I understand what you are talking about EVs do not function the same in winter as they do in summer. BUT MY BIGGEST LAUGH is about how the range drops when towing. Have you people realized how much more gas/diesel you are using when towing?? Ya'll have no clue.
1) Good video 2) It's CRAZY how different our user experiences are! I LOVE my Ford Lightning & could never go back to a gas vehicle. I've only had 1 of the issues you mentioned, the "Accidental unplug," which really doesn't matter, but it's annoying. These trucks drive better than any vehicle I've ever owned. So fast, so quite, so smooth! My dealer has been good also. These trucks aren't for everyone, but they work PERFECT for me. 👍
Unfortunately, I am selling my F150 lightning as well. Many of the issues in the video I am also experiencing. It just leads me to believe it is just not ready yet and I just don't want to be an early adopter anymore.
Nice review dude. Thanks for the honest review and pointed out the dealership issue. With that said, I think this is a great vehicle if the close-by dealership is not an issue. I'd pick this one over Cybertruck any day.
I currently own an 2021 F-150 XLT, has been a full year with this truck for me, and first truck also. So far so good i love the truck practicality confort traveling with my family from highland ca, thru San Francisco round trip. My question is even if im happy with my current truck, i’m still dreaming to own a ford lightning, as a regular home owner type of use. No solar panels installed currently at home, how ever im an electrician which will cost me $0 labor to install level 2 charger at home. Also my round trip commute from home to work each day is 2.5miles, also free chargers available at work. This factors are pushing me to really consider switch my current F-150. Any thoughts? Will be appreciate it.
Aw, sad to see you sell it, you've been a great trailblazer in Lightning ownership. Always appreciated your tips. Best wishes on your next vehicle! What are you thinking of getting? I may have missed it if you mentioned it.
I appreciate the support. It's been a great journey. Currently I'm not sure what my next vehicle might be. I may have an idea by my next video. I just know I would still love an EV for the next one.
My Tesla model Y 22 has been awesome, specifically the auto steer. The only thing I’m having a hard time understanding is why am I changing tires once a year
Sounds like the dealership that's multiple weeks out is a higher quality Service center so they get overbooked faster. Trust me, its better to just wait a few weeks for an appointment than to deal with a crappy service experience. My dealership is almost always 2-3 weeks booked out, because we take great care of our customers and their vehicles so most gladly return.
Very thoughtful commentary. We considered an F150 XLT and my biggest concerns were the non EV components going bad or breaking. I’d love to know what vehicle you are planning to replace this with.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I originally signed up and received the option to order the Lightning but it was the $70K version and the dealership added an additional $10K in frivolous additions. Needless to say, I passed on it. So far, I think the best option for owning an EV truck is Tesla's Cybertruck due to the company's extensive charging network but in my opinion, it's an ugly truck.
I work at a new car dealership, you should have just went into the dealer. They could have fixed the rattle in the pillar and look up the battery cover part number for you. You have a warranty for a reason, use it to its full extent. It will also let ford there is more vehicles with that issue because you aren't the first.
Just got a ‘24 Lightning Flash for $60k after all rebates. All the problems you mentioned here have not existed with what i have thankfully. There is a calm screen where the info on the dashboard is limited and you can also limit the info on the tablet by pressing and turning knob up. I came from a Tesla Model S Plaid. I have two level 2 chargers as my wife drives a model Y. I park outside but i live in the desert. Our Ford dealerships are great here. Tesla dealerships here are great for service especially using the app, Tesla’s app definitely is more superior than Ford ever will be. I find it weird there is no built in dashcam but i need the functionality of the truck as a truck and i love my lightning
Well-presented video. I was recently shopping Lightnings, but ended up leaving with a Deisel Super Duty Tremor. What's that desk setup you use in the back seat? It looks neat.
Great video. I can totally see the service issue potential. We recently got a Mazda MX 30 and we can't find a single shop to service it including Mazda dealers.
Recently bought a Tesla Model 3 and love it. I want a truck and the would like a diesel Chevy/GMC, but the $7500 towards down payment makes me want to get a Lightning. At the very least I’d wait until NACS is avail on the Lightning. The upcoming Flash version looks good. I’d wait for GM EV truck, but no Apple CarPlay, no go for me.
Great video as always! The rattling is frustrating, but I can share that my 23 XLT ⚡️ hasn’t had that issue so at least they fixed it for the next model year! As for the updates, I’ve griped on twitter about how they should handle these differently. I agree that they should be more transparent about what’s in each update, and I know personally that that feedback has been shared with the High-ups at Ford Model E so this may improve in the future. As for selling, I’ve got too many big plans for mine just yet… verrryyyyy surprised at the price they offered you though. Much lower than I would have thought/hoped
Joseph! Thanks man. Yeh mine bugged out at the dealer pre-sale so they had to replace a chip, but you remember those days. I couldn't just say I don't want my truck anymore LOL. Price of our truck has been on a rollercoaster. Even if the re-sale value drops because of the market, it's still a great truck. I hope you keep making videos about your Lightning. There might be one less TH-cam person covering it starting next month so someone's gonna have to pick up the topics. LOL
The cybertruck is out now and I saw a Chevy Silverado EV yesterday which has like 100 miles more of range So F150 Lightning is already the worst EV truck on the market now
@@Kylewraps"best" and "worst" are relative. You're comparing a $100k truck with a $50k truck. I'm leaning Rivian but if I couldn't afford that I'd rather spend 50k on a lighting than 100k + on a Tesla. They're all amazing vehicles from a technology standpoint IMO. I guess what I'm trying to say is, why hate on someone for being happy with their stuff. One love.
I test drove a lightning (I have a ram) and I found that even with a new lightning, compaired to rams, the UI is sooooo slow. For the amount you pay for the truck, the UI shouldn't be that slow with everything you do. But maybe that's just me? I'm looking forward to seeing the ram revolution to compare to
No question about it, an EV is not ideal if you don’t have a garage and a home charger. The convenience of having an EV is waking up each day to a full charge. If you’re relying on going to chargers, you’ll quickly regret your decision to have an EV. It’s also more expensive which somewhat defeats the purpose.
Having a tesla and a garage i agree with most of what you say. I have taken this car on two 1000 mile plus trips and it has been fantastic. The superchargers are better than anyone can say plus i have free charging for life. So way better than gasoline
Wow, my 2022 lariat, had no door rattle, don’t have that 0% SW bug, screen isn’t super fast but never felt it was super laggy either. Leaving it plugged in keeps battery at optimal temp which I always do so rarely have those power limited issues. Also seems like your dealership just sucks. Mine has been great but definitely hit or miss.
Haha that's a good description of my dealership. My Lightning was built around June of 2022 and definitely had some early warning signs. But back then, there was no such thing as waiting around for another one. How times have changed. LOL. Glad to hear yours is working perfectly.
I have the lariat version, and I’ve had it for 2 years now. The software is definitely a bit buggy and should be updated to improve the EV user experience. Batteries definitely not great in cold weather. But my truck has been rock solid. Absolutely no issues in 2 years. These are things I basically expected in a first generation truck. A lot of the issues have been corrected with OTA updates. For me, I’ve had a wonderful experience with the Lightning. It’s a great truck for my needs. It will not replace all ICE trucks. If you haul a trailer, it’s probably not for you. If you do a lot of long cross-country drives without a lot of stops, I’d go with ICE. The Tesla deal is a game changer though, because that network is far better than Electrify America, etc.
I could only imagine if you got a CyberTruck. You would see major differences between them right away. Better ride more power better range. This list goes on and on. But I do like the ford frunk.
Brother I spit my coffee out when you said, no my first car was not a Civic 😂. Thank you for the great information.
Dealership service centers have generally become horrible in my experience. I totally understand the motivation to sell. They’ve always been an expensive option, but now you can’t even trust that they’ll do the work they are charging you for. It really leads toward another conversation about what direction that industry is taking overall.
Happy for you that Carmax wholesale offer was that high;
You plan to sell it with a dead battery?
@@DuffyGabi

The clip with your kids was awesome. And you forgot to put your billboards to your other videos. Thanks much for the video. Very helpful.
It was so cold 8 degrees
Canadian me- 😂
8°F is -13.3°C. So, not crazy cold by cdn standards, but not exactly toasty warm either.
The dumb shit people do to own a POS Ford.
I drive a standard range lariat for work. I love it no rattles or squeaks and the range is fine. I plan on buying an extended range.
Me too, the Flash has some great deals right now.
Yeah.
Good advice. Great to see someone who really puts their Lightning to use and have no issues.
I have a Chevy Bolt and a Model 3 Performance and I agree wholeheartedly with everything here. The larger battery is really kinda mandatory for something that can gobble up kilowatts like a truck can.
If you live in California there are plenty of chargers and no need to wait
Also reset the driving record and do the test when it is 55°F - 85°F
I just started looking into removing the frunk "hi neighbors!" speaker too! Was it difficult?
@@johnnyv9024 Not too bad. You need a T45 bit. I followed a tutorial: th-cam.com/video/UdWVnZ5vNgM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xoVM9xlPmmSpxmGL
nice to see other people care about eliminating annoying beeps, alarms, honks, etc.
I have 34,544 miles on my 2023 Lightening Lariat so far and I absolutely love it. I have yet to have a single problem, although I may not be the norm.
Glad to hear! I think the 2023 model has less issues and bugs. That seems to be the "norm" when I talk to 2023 owners.
Nice. You probably got a great deal on the truck. I'm sure you'll make awesome use out of it.
@@lenm2857What are you talking about?
Increasing from 3200 to 1500??
Is that another one of those "alternative facts"?😂
@8:40 alarm alert on app ? I checked the Ford app and I can't seem to find that feature. Sounds helpful specially if your at work.
Very informative video! I just traded in my 2020 Tesla Model X on a new Lariat Lightning and am loving it! Initial impressions at 1 month of ownership:
--the Lightning has a much smoother and quieter ride.
Is the 240 mile an issue for you? I am debating whether I should get the Extended range or settle for the standard
I have over 10,000 miles on Lightning Pro and still loving it. It’s my work truck, personal truck and I do a fair amount of towing. Works great in the mountains.
Awesome to hear! Thanks for sharing.
@@merrittrenovations6547 yes the one pedal drive is so nice when towing. Hardly ever use the brake
That regen braking going downhill is amazing
I’m 100% with you on this!
I love my Lightning Pro.
Thank God everything great here.
There are tons of Lightnings on Craigslist near me with just a few thousand miles. So I am thinking that a lot more people didn't have your experience. I was looking cause I wanted one but seeing so many new trucks on Craigslist caused me to rethink it

I am looking at one right now a Platinum but now a bit nervous about the things I have read about charging.
One of the best EV videos on youtube, and youre 100% right about Ford dealers, alot of them are really bad, which can make Ford ownership a pain.
Hopefully you’ve gotten your Tesla adapter, as you can now charge in the supercharger network which makes things 100% better.
I own a Tesla model three and a Ford F150 lightning I use my Tesla charger in my garage to charge my truck and it works perfectly fine no problems.
No way.m..1 coffee and a wifi password ? I'm IN!!! So generous

Vampire drain is a big problem with my model 3 and not an issue with my mach e . I’ve tried turning off the sentry mode which had reduced vampire drain but still a problem
Your car is defective, or you're checking at different temps, using cabin overheat protection, etc. My M3P loses maybe 1% per week sitting.
Buying a new vehicle during and post pandemi and expecting everything to be perfect is a dream. You have to be a very lucky person.
🤔 my 2023 Lariat seat is 100% silent.
Software updates aren’t just a EV thing. ICE vehicles get them too.
Tire pressure is lower than recommended? Is that based on the weight of your truck? Mine are higher on the lariat extended range.

Thanks for the insight. I am happy with my Jeep GC 4xe now and happy because there is very little charging network where I live.
Are you subject to the recall (fire risk) how did your dealer deal with it?
@jarrodvsinclair that is with the wrangler. The grand cherokee was not affected.
Where I live there is a Ford dealer on every block. They probably outnumber Starbucks. There are about 10 of them in short driving range. Interesting.
I live where it can get over 100 degrees at full humidity for weeks during the summer, and single digits freezing your doors shut during the winter and am wondering how being in both extremes would affect the battery.
i have a gas 2022 f150 and ive had many issues and just like you i have a close dealer that is no good i have to travel to get it fixed
Great information. I just picked up the 2024 Lightning and it rides beautifully.
Good video man. 1st time viewer and just subscribed
15:37 “Hi, I need to schedule maintenance. It seems my windshield washer fluid is out.” “We can service you in six weeks.”
1) Good video
2) It's CRAZY how different our user experiences are!
👍
I have to say you don't drive long distance or tow frequently,
@luke2400 That's true and that is exactly why I said & always say, It's not for everyone but its perfect for me.
Unfortunately, I am selling my F150 lightning as well. Many of the issues in the video I am also experiencing. It just leads me to believe it is just not ready yet and I just don't want to be an early adopter anymore.
“I’m not going to talk about any of the pros…..” 6 minutes later…”now for the cons..” very nit picky on the cons.
😂
Yes, even in this supposedly negative review, there seem to be way more and way bigger pros than there are cons. He only made me want the car more.
A crappy service center that tries to rip you off isn't a nit pick.
@@HittinyaWitDaTruthit is when it has nothing to do with the truck itself, which he is reviewing, NOT the service center.
Where did you get that table for the laptop around 4:37
Very good video!! Typical American made cars - cheap plastics and of course Dealerships are awful!
Nice review dude. Thanks for the honest review and pointed out the dealership issue. With that said, I think this is a great vehicle if the close-by dealership is not an issue. I'd pick this one over Cybertruck any day.
What's that "mini desk" you're using at a17:08?
what do you think, should i buy a brand new cybertruck or that one, xlt?
Thanks for the update. I really appreciate this video series.
Hey I really appreciate you watching.
@@EVTruckLOG OK, so R1S it is. 😉
You forgot to put the channel link to the video at 1:52 and 4:50~. Great video!
Very thoughtful commentary. We considered an F150 XLT and my biggest concerns were the non EV components going bad or breaking. I’d love to know what vehicle you are planning to replace this with.
Shop around as 44K seems low with less than 15K miles, try KBB with your VIN and see what they say
Resale and trade in values right now kinda suck for most vehicles
So what are driving now and what kind vehicle did you buy ev or ice.
His dealer sucks. Ford also likes to try to fault the owner on warranty claims.
One reasons I sold my Model 3 is the service took so long to schedule. About 4-6 weeks out.
I have 2023 Ram Rebel v6
Looking to traded in for Lightening Lariat,
Great video. I can totally see the service issue potential. We recently got a Mazda MX 30 and we can't find a single shop to service it including Mazda dealers.
It’s because they sold like 200 in the whole country last year
Recently bought a Tesla Model 3 and love it.
Electric truck owners: tech guys buying a new toy for a year and selling it
Real truck owners: still driving a well maintained f150 with 150k miles.
Or gas truck TH-camrs selling the gas truck after 6 months and 4,000 miles. Same thing.
LOL
Still the best BEV pickup! Cannot beat a Ford F-150 Lighting pickup truck and dealer service!
The cybertruck is out now and I saw a Chevy Silverado EV yesterday which has like 100 miles more of range
So F150 Lightning is already the worst EV truck on the market now
@@Kylewraps"best" and "worst" are relative.
My ford dealer has six on the lot and the sales people won’t even sell it. So many of them have been returned in less than a week.
