    thank you so much for this! I just picked up this exact setup from an estate sale and wanted to make sure it worked. Everything works so far, threw in some old film my grandmother/father had at my house and went through all the steps. Pretty great camera for 12.50$!

    Don't forget to the set the ISO to match the film (50 to 1000) -- a little lever on the bottom of the lens.

    I’ve shot this camera and have gotten some fantastic results! Sharp lens and easy shooting

    I have one of these and even with fresh batteries and cleaning the battery contacts I think that some corrosion got inside of the camera -- it takes a good 30 seconds for the flash to charge (definitely fresh batteries), and the winding advance and then rewind sound labored. But it shoots fine. And I got a set of aux lenses for it -- a wide and tele (barely noticeable in the photos).

    Hi, I have been searching through online forums and TH-cam to try and find a fix for my SureShot. Everything appears to be working and in good condition, but when I put the batteries in the camera immediately starts making a noise like the rewind is being used. I can not get it to stop unless I hold the shutter button down. However, as soon as I let it go, the noise starts again. Thank you for the help!

    I just bought this camera but for some reason the lens cap door doesn’t close when I turn it off and it isn’t taking photos. It’s just staying on “S” even though it started winding up my film for photos properly for the first two shots. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

    I just found one of these in great condition with the exception that the film is not advancing! Otherwise, everything works fine. Any suggestions on a fix for this?

    so my great grandfather passed away years ago, and he had one of these cameras. i’m finally ready to use it, but in the battery compartment only one of those metal things are shiny, one of them is dirty, is that fixable? do i just clean it? i’m so bad with cameras!!

    I just bought mine in great condition with original little camera case for $5 bucks. I looked it up and Amazon is selling it for $279. I don’t know why these point and shoot cost so much money

    I got this camera from a thrift store and I’ve been messing with it. For some reason I put the batteries in I flicked the on button for flash and it popped up but, the light didn’t turn on. Do you think it’s broken 😢?

    • @salmasantillan4558
      @salmasantillan4558 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only have batteries in it for right now. I have no film in it yet btw.

    • @oldengguy
      @oldengguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it should still turn on, whether or not there is film in it. In the video, you can see that it turned on. One thing you may want to check on is the condition of the battery contacts. Lots of cameras that used AA batteries were left for years with batteries in them, and they leaked. look at the contacts down inside, as well as the contacts just under the battery door. If you don't see shiny metal there, you may need to scrape some material off to get to metal. If the contacts are good, and you are sure you inserted the batteries the right way, the electronics may have failed. I hope you can get it working.

    hi, i bought this & i've loaded the film but as i've pressed the shutter button, it doesn't move onto the next frame. the lcd display keeps showing 's'. and when i opened the back, it looks like the roll doesn't move as i've pressed the shutter button. may i know what is the problem?

    • @oldengguy
      @oldengguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The display on the top is not an LCD, but just a mechanical display that moves behind the window. Are you hearing the shutter operating and the motor drive working? If not, make sure the batteries are good, and installed the correct way -- see the little picture down inside the battery compartment. If with known good batteries you don't hear the shutter and motor drive, there is something wrong with the camera that will require some level of repair.

    Just got one, but unsure if it’s focussing. The lens definitely moves and the indicator inside shows how close or far away the focus range is, but seems to happen only right when I press the shutter button all the way. Does it not pre-focus with half shutter press?

    • @oldengguy
      @oldengguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question, and I don't have one of these here to experiment with to find out. Maybe there is a manual online somewhere that will say when the lens focuses. I seem to remember that when set for self timer, the lens focuses when the button is pressed, and it stays there until the shutter opens. This camera is old enough that it might not have been set to follow the current convention of focusing with a light half-press of the shutter button. If I find the answer, I'll post it here!

    • @jmusicman
      @jmusicman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oldengguy thanks so much! I see what you mean with the pre-focus switch/ auto-timer… the lens seems to move into place then! In normal operation, it doesn’t seem to pre-focus the lens, but it moves into place when you hit the shutter and takes the picture. I’ll keep you posted :) guess I have to try a test roll

      @@jmusicman Hey, ever end up doing that test?

    • @fraserlaidlaw7358
      @fraserlaidlaw7358 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DeadGlassEyes The sure shot is the first compact camera to ever have autofocus. Because of that, it was not yet industry standard for autofocus to engage by pressing the shutter button halfway. My understanding is that you can either point and shoot like normal, and the camera will attempt to focus on what’s shown in the centre of the viewfinder, or you can set focus using the pre-focus / self timer lever.
      To use the pre-focus lever, you pull it down, centre the viewfinder on something that is spaced at the distance you want to focus on, press the shutter button all of the way down and then your focus distance is set. At that point you can compose your shot and press the shutter button again to take a picture without the camera focusing on the centre of the shot. A downside to this system is that it uses the same function as the self timer, so once you set the pre focus, you have 10 seconds to take a picture before the camera snaps one automatically. It’s a bit of a clunky system, but it’s not bad for a camera from the early 80’s. Must’ve been pretty cutting edge back then to have such a versatile and compact camera.

      @DeadGlassEyes ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fraserlaidlaw7358 Thanks for the response. I recently put a fresh roll of film in mine so I’ll be running some tests on it. I find that it’s usually pretty good with focus, I’d say around 80%. And you’re right I don’t think the half press does anything here.

    • @oldengguy

      I think so, but I am not entirely sure. I don't have an example of this camera here with me to try at the moment. Let's see if anyone else chimes in with an answer. Please, everyone, if you know for sure, please speak up!

    • @oldengguy
      @oldengguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you do manually set the ISO/ASA value. There is a window on the top of the lens assembly where the readout is, and the control to set it is on the bottom of the lens assembly.
