    It was a very nice, simple camera to use and it took excellent photos. The flash covered the entire frame with no central hotspot. It was only $125.00 back in 1981. Quality pictures for a reasonable price.

      $125 in 1981 = $430 today according to the official inflation calculator.

    Hi!
    So what is the difference between self timer(press once after lever is down - shutter goes off after 10 sec) and pre-focus(press once to focus and then again after lever is down)? Is there a click sound or an indicator that reveals on which mode I'm on?

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      No, there is no other indicator. It is almost the same. The difference is that by the time you press the shutter button for the 1st time, you have 10 seconds to pre-focus, otherwise it will fire as a self timer.

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the back door can't close, light will come in and ruin your film. But after loading the film, you can try using a dark black tape to keep the door light-tight shut. Better tape it all around the edges to make sure no light comes in. And when you are over taking photos you can remove the tape and open the back.

  • @derrickwho

    Is there a specific kind fo 35mm film that works best with this camera? Or do you have any recommendations of good 35mm films?

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use any 35mm film you want, but the ISO setting on this camera goes up to 400, so better not use anything above that, since you don't have control over speed or aperture. I would suggest the Ilford HP5 Plus or Kodak T-Max 400 black and white films which are cheap and easy to find. Regarding colour films, it depends on the colour tones and the aesthetic you want (and the price). Kodak Portra 400 is brilliant but expensive. Kodak ColorPlus 200 and Fujicolor C200 are very good and more affordable options. There's so much more and you can find reviews with samples online and on TH-cam that can help you choose.

    I just finished a roll of film but the film transport indicator wouldn’t move when rewinding. This hasn’t happened before. Is there a reason for this?

  • @0222am-cje
    @0222am-cje 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Only video I would go for as a film beginner! I just wonder how do i need to set ISO by turning ASA ring on the lens? Less ISO for closer shot or something?

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The ISO is the film sensitivity to light. Large numbers mean brighter image. But in contrast to the digital cameras, in film cameras the ISO depends on the film roll you choose to put in your camera. For example, in this video I used 100 ISO film (1:08) so I set the ISO indicator on the Lens to 100 (1:50). This camera is automatic, so you need to set the ISO of the film to "tell" the camera how to calculate the exposure. If you set the ISO indicator to different value than the one on the film you are using, the photos will be wrongly exposed.

    I just got this camera today and I started testing it. It works well but sometimes it no matter how much I press the shutter it just won’t fire. Wondering if it’s a focusing issue? The fix is usually to just let it take a break and try again wondering if it’s normal?

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what could cause this problem. Normally you should press it first halfway in order to focus. Maybe sometimes if you directly press it all the way down after consecutive takes, it won't work properly.

  • @yoursweetsarahnade

    How will you know if the camera is in prefocus vs self timer if you press the buttons the same

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is the same button. To pre-focus you need to press the shutter release button a 2nd time. But if you don't press it a 2nd time and you wait for 10 seconds it will function as a self timer. That means that by the time you press the shutter button for the 1st time, you have 10 seconds to pre-focus.

      Hi! 35mm film (color or B&W) is the most common and you can find many types in local photography shops or online if you don't have a shop near you. But if you are talking specifically about the film I use in this video, it is a Fujifilm Superia 100. It is no longer produced, so there is no way to buy it now (unless you find expired rolls). I just use it in the video for demonstration purposes.

    I'm hoping you can help me. I bought one of these recently and I fear that the auto focus is broken. When I half-press, I don't hear a sound at all to suggest that the lens is focusing. Considering how loud the camera is, I assume that the auto focus would be audible.
    When I take the photo, I see the little distance indicator in the viewfinder move. And it seems to be accurate to what I'm shooting. But, I don't know if the auto focus is actually doing anything.
    Is there auto focus audible on this camera? Should I be concerned? Thanks!

Also check if the rewind button-pin on the bottom of the camera is pushed in by mistake.

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what caused this. Did the batteries started to smoke? Maybe you should try using regular alkaline batteries and not extra strong ones, because this is an old camera. Or there might be something wrong with the camera electronics causing this. You better ask the person you bought it from, or take it to a camera repair shop if the problem continues.

      First of all, try using new batteries. If the issue continues there might be a problem with the rewind button at the bottom. In total and complete darkness, open the back of the camera and then close it again. This might reset the button to its position. Make sure the button at the bottom stays out at all times except when you want to rewind the film.

      Make sure the button on the bottom stays pressed in. Sometimes it comes back out. You can try holding it with your finger. Also the rewind switch might need some fiddling around if it doesn't make good contact. Finally you can try changing batteries. If nothing works, the film must be removed by hand, by opening the back in total and complete darkness. Since this might be difficult, or might lead to film snap, you better take it to a photography shop to do it.

      The film speed ring is often very stiff in this model. Mine is too and for this reason I use both hands. You can try gently pushing it in while twisting. You can also try a very tiny drop of lubricant oil and see if it helps. Most film rolls today are 200 or 400 ASA, so if you manage to reach one of those two, just leave it there.

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately the camera doesn't have a "on-off" switch so once you have batteries in, it should fire even without film inside. If it doesn't then something is broken. Check if the batteries contacts are corroded from battery liquids. Maybe this will solve the problem.

    Hello, I did everything like yours but the film turned out blank, do you know why? Please!!!

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blank film could result from various reasons. First of all are you certain that the film was proprerly caught in the sprockets? When advancing did you check if the film advance indicator was moving? Maybe the film never advanced in the first place. You can also check if there is a problem with the shutter. To do this open the back of the camera (without film inside), point the camera towards a light source and look through the back of the lens if you see the shutter opening and closing. Finally make sure you haven't loaded the film cassete up side down. The emulsion side of the film must face the lens.

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This autofocus is not as accurate and fast as in modern cameras. Make sure you perform all the actions as described in this video. The camera focuses only in the middle of your frame (the square in the viewfinder). Next be aware that this lens can't focus for subjects that are very close to the camera. Position your subjects a bit further. Finally, since it is an old camera, it is possible that the focus system is not working perfectly any more.

      If you are certain that the batteries are new and that you had them inserted the correct way, then you should contact the seller, because with the batteries the camera should work, even without film inside. Regarding the back it is common to tape it around with black tape to avoid opening and light leaks.

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Unfortunately the ASA setting on this camera goes only up to 400. So if you use a 800 ASA film, your images will not be correctly exposed. Since this is an automatic camera you can't do much. What you can do is "pull" the film during development for about -1 stop. But I'm not sure if it is going to have nice results in color film. But your 800 ASA film might give you nice results in dark or night situations, but make sure not to use the flash.

    • @FilmCameras

      If the film automatically rewinds when the counter goes to S, there will be a problem with multiple exposures on the film. But if it advances properly forward, even when the counter goes to S, you'll probably be fine. Usually the counter goes to S when the back door opens. So make also sure that it remains fully shut.

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try removing by hand the film in **total darkness** by pulling it out, but there is a big chance that it will be stuck and will snap and will end up ruined. So better take it to a repair shop to be sure.

    Hi! I have this camera and face issues trying to rewind the film. The number counter doesn't seem to be moving/count backwards. Any idea what's wrong with this? Could it be that I've not placed the film roll correctly? Thanks for the great video!

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the film counter moved when taking photos, there might be a counter problem when rewinding. Is the transport indicator ( 5:23 ) moving? If yes, the film should probably roll back ok. Keep rolling until the indicator stops moving. If not, there is a chance that the film snapped or was blocked at the end. In this case, after trying rewinding, open the camera, in total darkness, and feel with your hands if the film is still laid out or if it has rolled back in.

    Question abt the self timer! I’ve been trying to use it as instructed (moving the level and then pressing shutter down to start 10 sec timer) but everytime I do press the shutter it just takes the photo right then and there with no timer delay… I’ve wasted abt half of my roll trying to figure out wth is wrong with it but I’m stuck lmao

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The self-timer works as in the video: first you move the lever and then you press once the shutter release button. If after about 10 seconds the self-timer lever doesn't return back to position, or if the photo is taken when you press the shutter release button, then the self-timer must be broken and might need repair. Try testing it without film inside in order not to waste films. See if the pre-focus feature works as well (it uses the same lever, see 3:42 in this video). Note that self-timer and pre-focus differ only in the fact that in pre-focus you press the shutter release button a 2nd time within the 10 seconds time frame limit.

    • @FilmCameras
      @FilmCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Probably the two rewind switches are on. Check at 5:08 of this video. There is the bottom button and the switch on the top. I guess the button on the bottom is pushed in, in your camera. In order to rewind the film, it also means that the rewind switch on the top is pulled. Normally, this switch has a spring and you need to hold it with your finger so as to rewind (like in the video). In your case it might be stuck, so you have to push it to the right (against the arrows). After doing this, press the shutter release button (the one you take photos with), to unlock the bottom rewind button. For all this you'll need to have batteries in the camera. No need to have film inside.

      Not sure. But you can have a look at the following: 1. Check the rewind button-pin on the bottom (5:08) maybe it is stuck in pressed-in position. 2. Check if the self timer lever has stuck in horizontal position (4:25) 3.If it won't let you take a photo and the film is wound up, then maybe the film was taken up in a wrong way. Try removing the film and test the camera without a film. Normally it should work properly. If none of these work, then you should probably take it for repair.
