I found this camera in my grandpa's camera bag. He had a old cannon and this one. I was able to restore both and the other with this video's help. Thank you
I bought this camera last week. It is a Canon Prima Twin S with Date. I think Canon released this camera with three different names: Canon Prima Twin S - Canon Sure Shot Telemax and Canon Autoboy Mini T.
Hi, great video! I recently bought this camera and am excited to start shooting with it! I'm looking into film and I'm interested in getting the Ektar 100, but I think it's only available with 36 exposures. Since the counter for this camera only goes up to 24, would it be possible to use a 36 exposure film? Would it automatically start rewinding once the counter hits 24? Thanks!
Just picked up one of these and a Olympus Trip 35 for £25 at a local charity shop. Olympus Trip 35 is much more me since I use a Nikon SLR and feel more comfortable with all manual. Luckily both work including the Trips selenium cells light meter. Guess I have two point and shoots one for colour one for black and white and my Nikon SLR now.
My old telemax won't take a photo without film in it, but everything else is as described. Mine also has the date feature so I can set the date on the image.
Have this and the regular Sure Shot Max, cool cameras and I get asked where I got them from all the time. Might sell one of them since they are pretty much the same
I have a roll of film in each one that I haven’t finished, I’ve been busier with my new to me Konica c35. I’ll check back later.. I like shooting with the Telemax a little better, but the Max just looks cooler with the green lettering
I saw the camera lens is 38mm. How much different will it look sense it takes 35mm film? What about when using the 70mm lens? How will this all appear on 35mm film?
35mm is the format or size of film. It has nothing to do with focal length when zooming in or out. It doesn’t work the same way as say a cropped sensor or 35mm sensor on a digital camera. Does this make sense? 👍
What’s going on with it? The film isn’t advancing? Or it advances but shutter won’t fire? Either way try putting white vinegar on a cotton swab and clean the metal contacts where the film is put in. Might not be recognizing the film. Let me know how that goes! 👍
Hi! I noticed there are two versions the telemax date and the normal telemax. I know it says the telemax date can imprint the date on the pictures but otherwise are the cameras themselves different and do they take photos differently?
Hey! I can only speak to quality of build and popularity as I’ve not shot with either. The Telemax is very popular on eBay and the extra cost reflects that. The 76 feels like a more solid build.. more compact. Both are a great choice! I will do some shooting with both and post to TH-cam at some point to get a better comparison. 👍
Before you do that I would replace the battery and clean the battery contacts in camera with white vinegar. See if that snaps it back to life. Let me know if that works! 👍
I haven’t used this camera in 8 years. If I remember correctly I purchased this to put Picts on eBay directly to my computer. If thinking correctly is this right?
my grandma gifted me this camera a few months ago but im yet to use it. question about the insertion of film, do I just pull It to the other side and then close the back like you did in this video? ive only ever shot on film once and the film had already been loaded for me!
Every motorized auto-advance Canon I've had has a tiny radial on the bottom, marked with a sort of fast-forward icon, into which one may stick the end if a paper clip (or something of similar size) in order to force a mid-roll rewind.
@@TeddyJuras That stinks. What if your battery is dead? I had an abandoned SureShot Telemax Quartz Date and it had one. I just didn't have a paperclip. 😆 I had to take it into the windowless bathroom and just pull it out manually.
@@TeddyJuras I considered that, but, I went digital 20 years ago and was never going to use that camera nor the multi-pack of unexposed film I found with it. The owner is dead and I wanted to give her family a chance to process the exposed rolls. I feel bad because, like an idiot, I opened the back outside a darkroom, so, at lesst one frame is almost certainly lost.
Nice! Gotta say it’s one of my favorite form factor/designed film cameras I’ve played with. I’ve not shot a roll of film in one yet but it’s super popular in my camera shop. 👍
@@TeddyJuras I just ordered a roll of 35 mm film for it yesterday, just to see if it works. I also have a Polaroid miniportrait that was given to me by my Aunt, I ordered film for it also.
Hello! What if i loaded film when camera was off? It didn’t move from s to 1 automatically like yours, but it did after i made first shot, does it mean the film isn’t moving or it’s okay? Thanks!
Great video!! I put an offer on one of these on ebay and they accepted right away which never happens. Excited to get in the mail and will follow your video.
It doesn’t seem like it, but do we have to manually set the ISO on the camera to match the speed of the film? Or does the camera automatically sense it? I’ve only used very old totally manual cameras 😂
Hi! Quick ques: do I snap the photo AS the green light indicator is flashing, or once it’s just lit up/has stopped flashing? A number of my shots have come out blurry. Overall a great camera and I love it!
Hello! From my understanding when the light is solid green that is when it has locked focus and should be good to shoot. Let me know if this is what you find to be true!
Hey I recently picked this camera up and I’m having some troubles with it, I noticed the zoom in function wasn’t working and when I inspected the inside of the camera I noticed the film had prematurely winded and finished, it was supposed to have 30ish shots but I only took around 14, when I took the roll out I noticed the zoom in feature started working again when there was no film inside. Any tips on what to do or if you can help diagnose the problem with it? Would greatly appreciate the help.
I can’t tell if my comment got posted but do you have to manually set the ISO to match the film speed? I’ve only ever used old totally manual cameras so I feel like I’m missing a step haha
Shooting with film requires you to have the film developed. You can ship the film roll to have it developed or there might be a local camera shop that does it.
Oh no! Sorry to see this happened Kaydon! I've had a couple where this has happened. Seems to be common. Does the switch not move? Is it stuck too? Or switch moves and lens does not? Either way I've not come across a fix for this issue yet. I've had to dump those cameras as non working. Are you able to return the camera? Where did you get it?
Hi Teddy! That’s a nice video!! I have a question. Do you now how much is that camera? I have one of these and I want to sell it. Also I have “DATE” version of this camera. And also my camera is working pretty well. Cond: 9/10
That’s a great question! You would think that it would mean no batteries put in and not tested. However I’ve found some sellers have their own definition so you need to be careful when buying untested. I’ve had someone tell me they put batteries in it and it didn’t work so they couldn’t test it! 😳 I will be making some videos on how to do your research before pulling the trigger.
thanks for the vid! i just shot my first roll and haven’t yet gotten it developed but i was wondering if my telemax shot any blanks? basically the number was at 18 so i had about 6 shots left but when i did the self timer for a group pic, the film jumped to 24 and started automatically rewinding. it rewinded completely just fine but now i’m worried i just shot a bunch of blanks on my first roll :( any thoughts or suggestions?
Hard to know for sure until you get the shots back. Have you run a dummy roll through the camera yet? I always recommend doing that a few times first when you pick up a new to you film camera. Any quirks it might have will be faster to find and less expensive! Could be a one time hiccup or a chronic problem. Hope this helps!
Hmmm you will need to test a couple things to see what’s going on. Could just be counter is bad or film advance isn’t working. If counter is bad no big deal cause film rewinds automatically at end. But if film advance broken then not looking good. Might need yourself a dummy roll of film so you don’t waste a good roll when testing it. 👍

Pretty much anything! Kodak 200 gold is a good place to start.

Yup not this one though! It will auto rewind at the end of the roll. 👍

Does the side button to pop open the film storage only work when a battery is inside?
no it doesn't require battery for door to open. I've not come across this yet. might be something sticky in the switch or along door.

Hello! Can I use kodak film for this camera? :D
Yes absolutely! I usually recommend Kodak gold 200 for beginners here - bit.ly/PurchaseFilm
I’m new to cameras 😭😭 so when you take the photos how do you get them off??
Shooting with film requires you to have the film developed. You can ship the film roll to have it developed or there might be a local camera shop that does it.
So after it rewinds. We need to replace the film or no?
Yes. Get that film developed and put in a new one. 👍
How do you see the photos
This is a 35mm film camera. You can’t see the photos until you have the film developed. That’s part of the fun! 📸

No. Essentially I buy untested low and then test them and sell high. Occasionally I might have to do a repair but not usually. 👍
