Canon AF35M | Fuji C200 - The budget camera that gave me the film bug

- In this weeks Film Photography Friday I review the Canon AF35M with Fuji C200. The Canon AF35M which was Canon's answer to the Nikon L35 AF that I did a previous video on was my first film point and shoot and it was arguably the camera that gave me the bug for film photography. I shot a lot of Kodak Colorplus 200 and Fuji C200 with it until I began upgrading to the Olympus XA and then the Contax T2. My first Canon AF35M had a broken film door that I held shut with electrical tape and after I sold that a few weeks ago I actually bought another one as there is something that I love about this budget camera and I will never not recommend it as it's a great point and shoot with a great f2.8 lens.

Just got one for 10 dollars from a thrift store. It's my first camera so I'm excited to get started. I just need a new lens

The Af35m is more like Mr screams a lot lol
I can't decide between this and the Nikon L35AF. People say the Nikon is the better camera. Does the Nikon take sharper photos? I'm a Canon man usually but feeling tempted to try the Nikon.
Love it, some really nice shots. I snagged the Minolta version of it (made a couple of new videos on it) and my younger brother has this one. We may do a swap and compare. You're right, it feels super duper 80s...

How do you know what ISO to set the film?
This is something that I also didn’t know but as I did research on Google , it says that for example if the film is Kodak 200, your ISO on the camera should be 200 as well. But it seems that every camera exposes differently, and maybe in some cases we need to adjust the ISO on the camera
So you shot color plus 200 on 100 iso?
U shot using what iso? Stay on 200 or push up?
what do you recommend? that one or the autoboy 2?

In your opinion which is the better camera if you had to compare the canon to the Nikon L35AF. I'm a beginner looking to get my first film point and shoot

I have this camera and wanted to test its functions before loading film and specifically with the rewinding mechanism. I haven’t loaded film but I pressed the rewind release button the bottom and slid the rewind button to rewind but the exposure counter doesn’t rewind backwards. Is this due to not having film loaded or a defect?

Hey does the unlock/rewind switch at the top only work once the film is put in? Because I haven’t put any film in yet but it’s stuck and won’t switch. I just got the camera from a camera shop on depop
I do think it needs film for that to work as I think there may be a small little switch in the back that senses if there's film there. If you close the film back with no film and fresh batteries do you hear a rewind sound?
Aaron Fleming no the button seems to be stuck so it doesn’t even slide in the first place. I’ve put in film and taken a few snaps and it’s the same. Just wondering whether it only switches once the film is used up. Thanks for the reply btw!
Hi there, what are the different films you used for the pictures at the end of the video? (could you give me in the same order as the pictures parade across please :))
you can have an idea where the focus is, but only when the shutter is already activating, so its not very useful if the focus is wrong; even with 'pre-focus' it can't be cancelled. This camera is not even as half as Nikon L35, although it has some original stuff on it

I've been listening to the blindboy podcast a lot and I actually prefer this pronounciation of it and I've also seen heated discussions about it where those from the states pronounce it paytreon and people from Europe tend to pronounce it pahtreon

Hey how was Kodak 200 overexposed ?? I just got the camera and Kodak 200 film but I start shooing with ISO 200 on the camera. Have no idea how the photos will come out 🤣

I sure will I actually still have a roll of slide film in my main T2 from Croatia with another 13 shots on it that I don't want to waste and am finding hard to shoot because it's winter in Ireland at the moment and the film is iso 100. I'll do one as soon as that roll is done though
I have this camera but on most close up shots, the subject keeps on defocusing and are more focused on the background instead!

Same thing happens to mine! I've already tried to force it with some tweezers (maybe not the best idea haha) but it didn't work :(

Hi! Did you manage to get it working? I have the AF35M II (Autoboy 2) and it''s crased twice. Both times I've fixed it by just fidgeting with it, i.e. pressing the shutter button repeatedly, holding it, flicking the prefocus lever, switching the lens coves switch etc. Nothing forceful, just playing around. Also taking the batteries out, and leaving it off for a while might work in combo with the aforementioned fidgeting.. it took a while the second time, but it's still working now :)
Btw I've heard of other cases where this has worked
This was happening to me and I realized that it has to do with the batteries. Try to take them out and place them back in, it seems the contacts are worn

Baught this in mint condition for 3€. The Autofocus conused me at the beginning. I feel like an Alien because the camera doesnt behave like modern cameras 😅 btw I love this camera
