Canon F-1 and F-1n Professional SLR Film Cameras

- Detailed Review and Demonstration. F-1 was Canon's challenge to Nikons early dominance of Professional film cameras.
The F-1. It was produced from 1971 to 1981.
There are 3 versions of this camera. F-1, F-1n and New F-1.
What I demonstrate here represents F-1 and F-1n.
The Canon F1 was meant as a direct competitor to Nikon F but almost a decade later. It takes a similar path as a true system camera. According to Canon’s own literature, it had 10,000 component parts. They claimed to demonstrate reliability unmatched by any other product in the photographic industry ie nudge-nudge wink-wink, Nikon. That was the brand to beat, even though other Japanese brands like Pentax, Minolta and Olympus were also doing incredibly innovative things but in a different market segment. At the time Canon F-1 was launched, to some extend thanks to Nikon, you could completely forget about competition from Germany, either West or East, let alone. It did not matter anymore.
It is questionable if Canon F-1 was meant as a competitor to Nikon F2 since the release dates for Nikon F2 and Canon F-1 were so close. There was little time for Canon to try to change the design and compete with the new features of the F2. But in fact it was marketed as such. In many areas, Fanon F-1 did manage to match and surpass the features of both Nikon F and Nikon F-2.
Canon F-1 is still a favourite of film photographers. It has an exceptional reputation for reliability after more than 50 years. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
I bought my first F1 in 1972, and since then I have bought another 4, for a total of 5 F1s. They are all absolutely fantastic.

Canon F1 is beautiful but the new F1 is a beast. More versatile than the F3, better built but born just before autofocus area.
F-1 is historically important as it probably saved Canon from being forever a consumer camera maker. Also it lasted a long time as was promised by Canon upon its launch. New F-1 is a very competent camera, which takes a respectable place in the Canon history, but not as critical as the original F-1. This channel is all about Heritage.
@@TechHeritage I understand your point. Two rems : the canon F1 was not the first professional canon reflex camera. They first develop another system Camera - The Canonflex and R2000- but the success went to the Nikon F. Then personnaly I just consider that the F1 was not as good as the Nikon F2 and the new F1 was better’ than the F3. Anyway the real success of Canon went later and the deal breaker was the canon EF mount which was 10years in advance and made a lot of sport photographers pass from Nikon to canon.
As the historians would have it, there is a chain of events leading to where we ended up. Canonflex was not the right path but F1 was. Without F1 Canon could have ended up as second or more likely 3rd tier camera maker for a decades. F1 bought enough time for Canon to re-group, innovate and come back for a counter-attack. So, F1 was the "Inflection" point and therefore historically important. Many more Canon cameras are in-line for review including EOS-1 (the original one) which was mentioned several times in the Nikon series. The very next one, however, is AE-1 in a couple of days.

The new F-1 was most definitely *not* better built than the F3.

greggsidwell8307- Than you for watching this video. However, can you please check again and verify that you made this comment about my video, or another video? I have double-checked and these spelling errors are not in my video. The only written references to breech and bayonet are at 1:50 and 2:22. Both are correct.
FD lenses are way better than the newer electronic focus EF lenses, I still use FD lenses on everything with adapters
And cheaper too.
It's just an A1 with a removable EVF 🤷🙄
Actually A1 is 7 years after F-1. It is based on the A series chassis like AE-1 and the rest of the A series, designed for robotic factory production. F-1 is fully mechanical but A1 is fully electronic (both shutter and aperture). I would say the differences are a bit more than the viewfinder.

FTB with a removable prism makes more sense. Still the F1 does a lot more in terms of custom modularity and swapping parts. Also, EVF means “electronic viewfinder” and is digital language
