  • Learn a new yoga breath technique with Adriene! In this pranayama practice we tackle the Breath Of Fire or Kapalabhati. This powerful breath is rhythmic and consists of short strong exhales and passive inhales. It works the diaphragm and when practiced regularly can benefit the entire muscular body, remove scary toxins and sharpen your focus!
    Breath Of Fire is a cleansing breath that can reboot the system and is especially yummy during winter months when the respiratory system/bronchial passages could perhaps use some extra TLC.
    Go deeper with Kapalabhati Pranayama!

    How our beautiful world works in mysterious ways... for months, since last November I started regular yoga and took on your 30 day revolution, your love and kindness is transforming my life. I did yoga because I couldn't run because I injured my foot so out of desperation and exercise knowledge I decided yoga. You were there everyday, you had my back. 30 days were enough for me to start walking again but there was something else I couldn't pin point. I continued. Three weeks ago I came to an internal conflict where I decided to look at the breath because that might be the reason I felt good. After watching ted talks and I'm studying counselling I realised that the only time my mind stopped was in yoga, especially when I was trying to breathe! So with my new experiences, my breathing... I am at the beginning of mindful breathing and this time on the mat is giving me moments of peace and clarity off the mat.. I am slowly beating anxiety, negativity, a ruminating brain!! I have been a PT for more than half my life and your technique is perfect, your heart, your crazy jokes are like mine. Your heart full of kindness and your unconditional love for everyone.. you came into my world when I needed you most. You will always be my angel with arms as wings.. a beautiful bird!! Humbly grateful from an admirer!! 😍😘🙏🏼 ps. I nearly forgot!!! I have been searching of the place I can leave a comment to you.. every time you ask us to comment I say out loud, I would if I knew where the button was (I'm great with people bad with technology) and tonight after practicing ujayi breath for several mins my mindfulness guided me to this section and now I have found my direct form of communication!! How Much I love the power of the universe!! Humbly grateful to have you in my home everyday... you have even got my 19 year old who used to laugh at yoga now watching you too and for the first time she's not doing it to look good but because you gift her peace and self!! From your admirer!! 😍😘🙏🏼

    tip for the second if you’re having a bit of trouble:
    it's basic anatomy and respiratory physiology -> when you release your belly ( creating more space for your lungs to inflate) , your lungs will inhale air passively :) So focus on letting your belly "inflate" and you will passively inhale to actively exhale afterwards :)

    This is a singer's breath. I teach my singers while laying on their backs, with knees up so low back is pressed on the floor. You cannot breathe wrong in this position. Then sitting up you can do the sound of a "k" on the in and a "chi" on the in to make the diaphragm jump. Love it! Thanks Adrienne.

I have always been highly allergic and get headaches, congestion and feel tired despite a full night's sleep. Adriene is a mind reader. I posted yesterday the I didn't understand the concept of belly breathing. Years ago, from my time in the military, we were taught to chest breath. Guess it was a 'macho' thing - suck your gut in and puff out your chest. After breathing this way most of my life, I find this process harder than some of the poses. I suppose that is why it is call a practice....

    7 April 2023
    This is my third month of (almost) daily practice with Adrienne. I was worried about this practice when I realized what the technique is. I have anxiety and have dealt with panic attacks my whole life, and the pattern of breath in this exercise is very similar to mine during those. I decided to flip it in my mind, telling myself “I am in control of my breath. I am connecting and learning to better control my breath.” It helped shift my perspective. Just thought I’d share

    • @blindknitter
      @blindknitter ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually found this git rid of a panic fear I used to get, where I'd worry where my next breath was coming from. Because this practice, as you say, flips things, I realised my next breath is automatic, it takes care of itself. I hope you find this as curative and helpful as I did - I haven't had those kinds of breath related panics since, and it's been years.

    I love Adriene's style. She makes yoga so much more accessible through her gentle teaching and good sense of humor. I'm on day two of regular practice and I think I'm finally finding something that is working for me. I have tried to stick to a practice before, but it's difficult as a full time grad student and TA. I'm being more gentle with myself this time, giving myself permission to practice at whatever time of day is most convenient and focusing on what I need in that moment. I like to do one video that focuses on healing the physical body, then one that focuses more on internal healing like pranayama, and then I finish with a sound bath while I lay in savasana with something cold on my eyes. I am already noticing a difference. I feel less anxious and more in touch with my body and emotions. I am working on giving up my phone addiction and yoga practice is sort of replacing that time I would spend scrolling, allowing me to actually relax.

    Hello Adriene! I tried my first Kundalini yoga class last night and part of our practice included 3 minutes of "fire breath." I was confused, but after hearing it audibly from others, I thought this was similar to Kapalabhati I did with you on another video. I had no idea it was the same thing ..and was hoping it wasn't because 3 minutes was doable but difficult! Definitely taxing on the body, but I think your reminder of being mindful of the breathe plenty prepared me for it (and honestly most yoga classes). It was interesting that the instructors at the studio said "Satnam" instead of "Namaste" and the Sikh influence caught me off guard (in a good way). My biological dad and his family were strict Hindus, but my later Stepdad was from a devout Sikh family. My mom had to convert originally from Christianity to Hinduism then to Sikh and I got to experience all these cultures...so to see them in all in yoga studios and have experiences to draw from is both overwhelming and powerful. Additionally, my close friend and first martial arts instructor is Buddhist--its so wonderful to be able to have so many opportunities to experience everyone's guiding principle I think the deep exposure to different cultures let me see the deeper in everyone, and thus humanity over everything. Namaste 🙏

    Power and fire comes from the breath,not the muscles.the breath becomes energy inside extending and passing through your body and becomes FIRE

    EXHALE 🧘‍♀ | March 27, 2024 | Love me some Kapalabhati breath! I always forget how great of a tool this is for getting re-energized whenever I feel a bit sluggish. Feeling oxygenated and illuminated! 💀🙏

    I think for begginners giving the breath a color helps visualize it going in and following it down into the abdomen. Usually they will pick a color that coordinates with how they feel. Maybe use that to help newbies.
