    I started to purchase some Eagles recently. I got a deal on Sovereigns and silver Philharmonics though, and since my twin daughters are musicians I thought the latter would make a nice addition to the stacks I'm putting aside for them when they're adults. I'll be picking up some Eagles in the near future. Since I live in the People's Republic of California, with its 9.25% sales tax, I'm limited in my options to purchase economically and have to jump on deals as I find them.

    One of my LCS considers BU and cull if there are only minimal surface scratches to be equal buy back price which is usually at least a dollar over spot. Another says if the mint seal is broke then they are no longer BU because they don't know if the coins were handled w/o gloves or not and will pay spot for these whether they stayed in the tube or not. I prefer the first LCS I mentioned.:)

    Today we can’t go much wrong with random date ASE. I found myself buying specific dates last year during the dip, but it was possible then to get those older ASE at well below $20/coin, so it was nice to diversify a little. I believe that all the BU will ultimately sell for “$1 over spot”, even the early specific dates, so the random date deals are always good to consider..

      SILVER stacking vs Silver collecting. I myself collect NGC graded silver eagles MS 69. To me the graded silver eagles pay back a big premium, especially the burnised silver eagles! Your average graded Bullion silver Eagles now costs about 40 dollars per coin. That is up 10 dollars from two months ago!

    Does the year matter I noticed the older the year the more expensive why

    • @gary-pv8vz
      @gary-pv8vz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Sanchez Some stackers get the itch to have a ‘set’ of coins covering a range of years. So, an ASE or Silver Maple or Kookaburra etc that is a few years old has a (perceived) greater value than the current year. FWIW, when the time comes to sell a bullion dealer will likely only offer close to spot. Selling via eBay or via a stacker forum may give a higher price.

    My preference when buying locally is to seek out the cull Eagles first. I buy BU as well when I can get a deal but imperfect ASE’s are my go to for stacking. I can typically pick up painted Eagles or zebra tubes for a buck over spot. I look for toned ones as well that I cherry pick that sell for the same price as cull and don’t have any inflated premium attached. I stack for the long term and getting a buck over spot if or when I sell makes no difference. As long as I get at least spot and it’s more than the price I paid (as I keep notes of all my purchases ) then I make out ahead. For BU, I wait until the end of the year to buy current year tube as you can typically get a better price.

They do free shipping on orders over $99, they don't always have the best deals but I trust them. I stack for savings, hedge against fragile economy, and/or the inevitable crash. While constitutional silver remains my primary focus, for the moment, I have ventured into a more bullion setting with ASE. I have three LCS within comfortable driving distance and have found that all three have their own take on premiums. I am also considering online sources. At the end of the day I fall back to my core premise, taking in associated expenses, what is the best deal I can get for my money at the time. When I discovered one LCS I was visiting was offering "scrub" ASE for a bit less than common circulated Peace Dollars, I took the deal!

    Agreed with 99% of this video! Just came back from a local coin show. Found a dealer with a stack of silver eagles but bought only one for $21 since it is the shiniest and best-looking one in the stack. Not even looking at the more spotted and damaged ones even though they could be $19.75. When buying bullion coins for stacking, I always look for dealers with the lowest prices on these that also allow me to pick and choose among the stack rather than just trying to sell me a whole stack or tube. That way I pick my own stack of silver that is not at the mercy of the consciousness of the dealer. But when I buy certified and proof coins for personal collection and memorabilia I just don't care about the premium (though I do compare prices across platforms for the lowest price). Only thing I do differently, when I get certified and proof coins, I sometimes try to get two of the same coin. That way I always have one for my own collection and the other for sale. LOL

    Almost correct strategy SD but you are selling yourself still short of the full potential. I suggest that your strategy should appeal to both stacker and collector. That means you should be buying ASE's to build a set of BU ASE's which is currently 34 coins (35 including 2020). This will be a full set, since starting 2021 the reverse will change. At that point the collectors will step in to complete building their full set and will drive pure weight stackers out of the market for this set. It is also unclear how much the new ASE's, with additional security features, will command in premium from US Mint. So the goal should be to collect full sets as close to spot as possible. If you can purchase back years for same, or almost the same price as current or random year, then this is a much better strategy then just simply collect random years. That is because full ASE sets sell for as high as $1200 but you should be able to put a full set together for around $660. BTW, if you have random years most LCS's will exchange those for full year rolls (with some exceptions like 1996). If they dont find an LCS that does, which is what I did. Why does this strategy make sense? If you sell to LCS random year ASE, as you stated in this video, you will get $1 over spot. At today's spot price that is $17.60. So for 34 ASE's you would get $598.40. However if you sell a set of 34 on Ebay you would get between $900-1200 and I do not care about what the spot price is at the moment, this is the current minimum. Of course if the spot goes up substantially it will not matter since the intrinsic value of silver may surpass the collector value. I am also not planning to sell any of my silver. This idea is to try and make your stack independent of spot price and associated volatility.

      GaryPeterson67 you welcome. Btw this is just my opinion and I am sure many will disagree. I am also a fairly recent stacker, started in January of this year. Also the strategy I described is much more difficult to execute then what I described. Definitely much more difficult then simply stacking random year ASE’s. However it is possible and I am the proof. I currently have at least a roll of every year and my average cost is $660 per set. However not trying to convince anyone that what I am doing is the absolute and correct way to go just keep the conversation going in the hope that we can all learn from each other

      BC I do see what you are saying... flip them to collectors... it might work but it’s just not my strategy... I want to sell to my LCS for an easy offload 🤷🏽‍♂️🔥🐉

    • @bullioncat1575
      @bullioncat1575 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silver Dragons agree that this will work. Only saying that this does not maximize your potential return in case you need to sell. I would think that is what you would do with junk silver, generic round or bars as the base of your stack. ASE’s have premium when you buy so I would not consider them the base. The strategy would be to sell the low premium stuff to LCS and higher premium coins through other means (Ebay, auction, OfferUp, LetGo)
