  • Make an easy leather book lariat, Medieval belt straps for spells, a leather scroll holder, or hang a Renaissance scrolls case from your belt. These easy leather patterns are universally useful. There are several leather book holders out there but none as universal and adjustable for an array of things as these. You may also be interested in the leather potion bottle holder or a great beginner leather project the leather coin pouch.
5/8" buckles were used in the video.

As a person who has never worked with leather before, what tools are you using and where do you recommend getting them?

If you watch through the video it may be more helpful. But basically I think you would need to print the pattern obviously. Then some clear box tape, a stitching chisel or really small hole punch, a utility knife or some sharp strong scissors, then some needles and thread. If you want to burnish the edges you could get a burnisher or a small chunk of canvas works. I get almost everything from Weaver Leather, here's a link.

I prefer the utility knife, however in a couple classes I've taught students weren't experienced with it and just did better with scissors.

lol, Ren fair, or reenactment stuff. Wouldn't you have liked to have an easy way to carry your geological maps around back when you were a geologist? ;)
