And now, you'd have to be extremely lucky or experienced to apply to ONLY 40 jobs, let alone all of the extra garbage that job recruiters do, such as "urgently hiring" but never getting any callback, having to individually put information from a resume to the job site, no salary available, site errors that forces you to go through the shitty process all over again, being ghosted, and all that disgusting crap.
But hey, they can always hire offshore workers instead, for stacks of profits from pennies of labor.

    • @Ryanthusar

This is why people you need to stop voting in politicians who take money from ANY company. No country should be run by business. You politicians should be voted into their positions without such 'sponsorship' and are TRULY there for the people. That is the issue with the USofA when it comes to everything. The corporations dictate what laws are passed through each level of government. Even if you fight for worker's rights, without those laws to back it up, then no change is ever going to take place.
One example of that sort of thing right now is the strike action that is taking place with the film/tv industry. Problem there is that sure, they get heard, however the government themselves are NOT doing anything by making sure the production companies do not use AI to replace jobs. They are not stepping in and making certain the writers and such are getting the proper wages. The problem is, as seen with Netflix within the last 24 hours, they are now looking in that direction to use AI. Unfortunately with that part of the industry it isnt going to work out well with the little people. AI unfortunately is here to stay, and those striking need to start working with AI and not against it. At the same time the companies need to realize that they need the human aspect as well, and not something just pushed out by the AI.
Now, while I dont work within the industry, I have messed around with ChatGPT 3.5, cant afford to invest in paying $20/month to access 4.0. I've tossed simple lines of what I've required for a story for the AI to create, and some of the work its created could be turned into a novel given enough material from the AI, so warning when you start buying books from now on, dont expect it to be from the actual author's own mind.

They spend so much time automating the system but not actually improving the efficiency of it or its outcomes.
Big data, record resumes, performance evaluations, and company performance data; have applicants send in resumes and standardized interview questions, have AI analyze the top candidates, automatically create individualized rejection letters and interview requests.
Bonus points: Make it a public system and collect employment data and use that information to fund education programs to alleviate the unemployment created by creative destruction, a fundamental part of capitalism. Also, less filling out the same forms over, and over, and over again.

I'm currently job hunting, and my parents tell me to "take whatever you can get." While I agree with them that I should take whatever job I can get, I also think I shouldn't put my fragile mental health at risk for $10/hr part time jobs...
    PS,
Been hunting for 5 months. Applied to I have no idea how many jobs. Had ONE interview with a job I applied to four times. No job yet. Everyone is so desperate for workers but they're clearly not hiring anybody.
I just want to get a job, take over the car insurance payments for my car, get out on my own, and be an adult. But it's hard in a broken job market.
Edit: Thanks for the support and encouragement, everyone. I appreciate it. I kinda gave up for a while because I started getting depressed. I started going into jobs that I applied to, and I got some funny looks from some workers when I asked to speak to the manager about my applications. One of y'all's comments makes a lot of sense now. I'm applying for jobs again, and now I will go into each job I apply to (that I'm able to go into) and ask about my application. Maybe that'll increase my chance for a job.

The reason a strike works is because 1) everyone in the company participates, and 2) it directly hurts the company. Stuff like that wouldn't work for hiring, because it'll require all unemployed people (including the ones that don't know about your initiative and the ones that are super desperate) to take action, and even then, if they don't fill a position, they'll still have their existing workforce in the office, so the immediacy is a lot less there.

Phone anyone in the company and ask, I'll wait"
Recruiter didn't know off the top of his head, gave one of the people who worked with it on a daily basis a call, and regurgitated the answer without thinking about it. "Second question: what is my name? I'll give you a hint: you just heard it over the phone"

It should _definitely_ be illegal to offer less than the minimum salary shown in the job listing. That arguably falls within the legal definition of fraud.

Zero-hour contracts are a UK thing unfortunately. Its basically the job holding shifts over your head, requiring you to have full availability, which also means that you cant risk taking another job in case they call you in. But they don't actually /have/ to give you any shifts. And if they /do/ call you in? If you don't jump immediately and come in, guess what? Suddenly there's no shifts available.
Its extremely scummy, and its been debated for years as to whether it even should be legal, but unsurprisingly its still a thing

What's even better is the fact that they reject people due to a lack of experience without factoring in that your can't HAVE experience if people won't give you the chance to actually gain any.

I have been sifting through and applying for jobs for hours nearly every day for the past year and have only gotten a single response and interview. I'm one year out of high school now and am seeing no hope of getting a job any time soon and it is extremely frustrating when all I want to do is have something to put on a resume to start making my way out of my parents house. Its even more infuriating when you go to nearly every business in your surrounding area (even places that I wouldn't even go in for an interview for because I have no interest in working for them) and they all tell you that they don't have any sort of in person application process and that you have to go online to submit an application.

I wish every job interview went like the one for my current job - Sent an resume. Someone actually read it. From that they knew I could do the job. They sat me down, explained the job description in more detail, gave a timeline for training (On site training is increasingly rare unfortunately), said what money I would be making at each point in that timeline. Asked if I was fine with the conditions or if I had any other questions, when that was done I was told what I needed to do before I could start (Physical and Psychological examination (important in my job), which they paid back with first paycheck).
It's a government firm so there isn't negotiation about salary, it's set, and transparent. I also live in Europe so it's little better, but none of the interviews I've been at before were this straight to the point.

Also after I was hired I was told that the person that hired me could tell I was gay and "didn't think I would want to work with straight teachers" I wouldn't have applied if I had a problem with that (I had zero problems working with any of the teachers) they have a picture on there social media page that says they will make sure your kids love ours. Ugh. I have now applied for a new better job where I won't be burned with hot water actually be trained and get a better pay and better treatment. I broke one day at the old job because it was my third day and I was left completely alone to get all of the rest of the dishes done pick up the snack stuff and clean the kitchen the next day after that I was treated like a child for being overwhelmed. I am glad I have a much better job that I will hopefully start soon.

  • @Ryanthusar
    @Ryanthusar 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

14:50 - Not necessarily the case, that could represent a MUCH bigger issue if you find the email address you used for that company is receiving spam. They could have had a data breach and because you had been in contact with them about a previous position, which they didnt tell you you didnt get, however they kept your email address on file, along with your resume. So, because of that data breach, your email address, ended up being taken and added to spam lists. Worse things again, if you find those spam emails are more personalized, such as your name being within them.
So, you then have two options. One, you can contact them DIRECTLY and put the question DIRECTLY to them on asking if they had a data breach, if they are then evasive in answer, you can bet they have. Your second option is to check the media and see if they have reported one. If they havent, report it yourself, because that email address didnt get out there without there being a breach, or your email address got shared by the company. And if it got shared, well you didnt give permission. And if you do report such a breach, you can bet they will be quickly in contact with you regarding it.

recent expose's have noted that a huge number of employers are only taking applications to: 1) bank them for future use (which never happens, they just take recent apps when they have a need, but inactive recruiters want to pretend they have a use to the company when it's not hiring actively)
    2) just get your personal info, either for internal use, or to sell it (check fine print on apps, often a clause that says they can sell your info)
    3) to mollify their overworked staff, without ANY intention of ACTUALLY hiring ANYONE "honest, I'm looking for a replacement! just keep it up and be patient!"

So glad I quit, even if job hunting has been hellish. At least now I can find joy in life again and actually spend time with my family.

I worked at a sports center as my first “real” job. I ref soccer, get amazing pay, minimum $25 a game for 10 year olds and it’s $80-95 for 16+. The sorts scenter is where these teams play in the winter. It was a concession stand job. Since the sports scenter is owned by the city it’s a “government” job meaning they can pay me less. But this is what pissed me off. 90% of the time, we are doing custodial work. Not like cleaning the concession stand, but the entire sports center. It has 3 hockey rinks, and one full size turf soccer field. I had to work with toxic cleaning chemicals every day without breathing protection or gloves. Not like windex, but ones that have warning labels that say it will burn skin if it comes in contact. I also had the clean the bathrooms, all 5 of them. I brought this up and they said they didn’t have the budget. I was planning on just toughening it out but one of my mangers decided he wanted me and only me, to clean every bathroom. It took me 4 hours. Then after that, he told me I didn’t do it and had to do it again. I had a two week notice pre made and handed it in the day. I was making $11 an hour.

I got a story, I applied to a very well known company in September, didn’t hear back from them, but heard back from a local company. The first one called me and asked for an interview…mid December.

I know someone working at IT in a game development company, some time he told me they have always job-adverts everywhere but they are not really searching for anyone... they just want to see what candidates will apply for their jobs...

I had a job listing that claimed to be $24 /hr. After getting hired, the boss announced that payment would be received after a probationary period. He extended the period to around 3 months, then verbally harassed everyone. Since everyone was convinced at this point that our boss was just a scammer committing mass wage theft, everyone quit the same day. If I had been paid what I had been promised, it would've been around $15,000-$29,000. There were probably around 5-15 people on the team, so he probably scammed us out of the equivalent of $288,000 in free labor. Only reason we didn't file a lawsuit was due to a loophole in our contract, a bad time-card system, a form of labor difficult to attach a monetary value to, and the fact that at that point we would much rather cut our losses than ever deal with that man again.

Unfortunately froggy site doesn't exist anymore. OP reblogged because that question was asked a lot:
"Alas, this occurred in 1995 and the company is long gone.
The demo was actually conducted using his laptop browser opening his site off-line; no webserver involved. Just a collection of pages stored on his drive C: that frog-guy created using notepad.exe, an impressive feat at the time. Once he onboarded we let him host his frog menagerie on the corporate LAN but I don’t think we ever gave it public access.
Our project manager (also at the interview) nabbed the computer-frog instantly and I haven’t spoken with anybody from that organization since 1998, so… yeah.
If I had the froggy I’d show y'all."
