At my school, we had a fire chief come over & talk about one of the fires is my city. My classmate was working that exact fire. I ended up needing to correct my classmate as he saud the fire started at 8am, so I corrected him saying it was actually closer to 6:45am (I literally watched the fire start at that time) and he insulted me saying "Did you work the fire? No? Maybe you should shut the hell up!" Then I waited a bit "Did you SEE the fire start?? I didn't think so!" Then I told him "Actually, I was watching it as it started, the fire crew's command was in front of my house. I have the timestamped video!" And I showed the chief as he wanted to see. Very fun class! I will never forget that day, it really sucks that we lost a brave man in that fire.

I was working at a grocery store, old rather skinny woman comes in. She's buying two 18L of water (4.7 gallon), which most older woman ask me to help carry, so I help her.
I'm not very strong but im decent, no problem with 18L but I wouldnt want to move one over a long distance.
I move one, go for the other one, but she's already picking it up easier than me and putting it in the cart. SHE DID IT FASTER AND EASIER THAN ME.
I had to ask, turns out she was an olympic athlete. Literally still stronger than me.

But soon after, a dude I knew at the time responded to my comment, and I can't quite recall exactly what they said but it was something along the lines about "comparing a cosplayer to a queen."
The dude simped so hard for a character that they didn't realize who played that character while placing that character on a pedestal right in front of them as they cosplayed the character.

I also had a slight "DontYouKnowWhoIAm" moment when i was making a Game a few years back with my GF and her sister (it's since been deleted as we stopped working on it after changing the version of the Maker-Software and pretty much Private stuff getting in the way for almost 2 Years)
One of the characters was actually quite liked by a few people who played the Alpha already and theories started about her in the small circle of fans we amassed.
She was basically a Demon from the 'Dark World' that ended up stranding in the 'Light World' of the Universe. Demons were not really liked in the Light World and few actually weren't hunted down. She was taken in by a Half-Demon Girl who then acted as her guardian.
The 1st Chapter had you run a few errands in town as said Demon Girl and her childhood friend, a human (and the Mayor's 2nd daughter)
Eventually you hear screams outside and are confronted by a Knight in black Armor that reveals that the Demon-Girl is actually the Princess of one of the Demon Realms and he's tracked her down to take her home.
having Amnesia and not believing a random Knight that just attacked your home and is in the process of burning it down, she refuses and a fight ensues that sees her Demonic Heritage going out of control, wounding her friend and killing the Knight.
She is then taken away by her Guardian.
Someone, somehow got into their brain that the Childhood friend died at this point, despite the Ingame text literally saying "Her wounds aren't that serious, she'll make it"
That person ALSO somehow understood her being banished from the Town, when in fact the Guardian chose to leave with the Girl to protect the survivors.
I then clarified that the Childhood friend is still alive (which wasn't THAT much of a reveal considering the version literally went up to the point where said Childhood friend becomes a Party Member) and also that she wasn't banished as after getting to the World Map you can literally go back and recruit Childhood Friend and another Character.
Dude went ballistic about me knowing nothing and just making shit up to which i replied "Yeah i literally don't know a thing, I'm just the lead programer AND Story Director."

My only problem with this subreddit is that... sometimes the professionals ARE wrong.
Sometimes the people in charge DON'T know what they're doing.
I've been a top level gamer for over 15 years now. The amount of people in the same circles (thus also be "professionals" on the subject) question me when I was 100% correct is... way, way, WAY higher than it ever should be. Like that one time on SWTOR where I came up with a strat for a boss fight literally hour 1 of the boss existing that is STILL the single most optimal way to fight it, and is now the standard strategy, and literally no one in my group (...who ended up getting world first clear for that raid...) would listen to me for like 8 attempts at the boss. They finally decided to actually try something else, I reminded them of my thoughts on the fight, and we immediately cleared it first try after swapping strategies...
    Just because you're a "qualified professional" doesn't mean you're always 100% correct.
Don't let your own ego get in the way of actually doing the best you can at the thing you're a professional at. You're not always going to actually be right. Always strive to improve, and always strive to learn more. Things change literally day to day, and sometimes, what you were taught is even literally incorrect. (I've definitely dealt with those kinds of people before - "Here's my degree" ...but what you're saying just literally isn't how that thing works. Like, it's just... not. It doesn't matter if you have a degree if you're still wrong. (while this mostly happens in volatile fields like physics, astronomy, etc., I've had at least a couple people in fields like biology or medicine try to tell me things that I could quite literally physically prove wasn't accurate with my own body (like I literally once had a medical professional tell me that certain movements weren't physically possible... when I was an active practicing gymnast and literally did the exact thing the guy said wasn't possible right there and then in front of him.)))
Always be open to the possibility that you're just... incorrect. Even if it's something you think you know.
Even if it's something you made - Most superfans probably DO know the actual media better than you do. Because they don't have to deal with the knowledge of how you want to expand on something or what you thought should've happened and thus consider the actual ending or events, their entire view and knowledge of the thing is based on the actual released information.
And seriously... don't underestimate how insanely obsessed someone can be. I don't care if you made a movie, you probably haven't watched it 50 times in a single year and probably can't recite the entire script word for word with no prompts. Some people can. Just look up Prozd's "reciting peter pan from memory" videos. People like that exist.

I had an experience like this once. Here's the full story in anyone's intrested:
I was sitting in the dressing room at a dance studio I was visiting for the summer. There were 8 other people there. We were all sitting in the dressing room over lunch. I was talking to a few of the girls about psychology. They were very interested in my specific field of expertise. Then, one of the others who happened to be listening in decided to but in. We'll call her 'Carla.' Here is the interaction:
Carla: "All of this stuff is just made up, ya know? Non of it is real."
    Me: "Interesting, go on."
Carla: "Well this field is just so clearly made up. I mean, come on, different types? Some people are item focused? Some aren't good with thinking? It's just ridiculous. It is an excuse for the people who don't want to rise above and get along with others."
    Me: "Really, how so?"
Carla: "I mean, look at you an I. We don't get along." (we had fought over something dumb earlier) "That is because you don't want to like me. We could be best friends if you would just rise above."
    Me: "Citation?"
    Carla: "I've heard some things."
Me: "So you have no data to back this statement up?"
    Carla: "Neither do you!"
Me: "Actually, I do." I pulled out a folder of my own case studies and original theories from my bag and handed it to her. (I happened to be working on that over the breaks). "You just told an expert in her field that her field didn't exist, meanwhile you know nothing of the subject matter." I then preceded to tell her that her own field of expertise didn't exist in a mock-insult. "Want me to tell you exactly how you think? Tell you the most intimate details of your mind when I've only known you for a few days? I'll do it, right here, right now."
Carla: "I don't think you can."
I simply just started giving her what is essentially the results to the previous analysis I had done on her beforehand. "Don't mess with a psychoanalyst." I then concluded. Needless to say, she shut up.
I could have gone straight for a simply comeback, but between you an me, I needed another case-study and she made herself an easy target.

I wrote out this huge thing and then I realized what I was writing it out to. Very swift summary of what I was trying to write. My friend is a computer programmer and even though we can have intelligent conversations about her products and her work, I do not claim I know anything about computer programming. I was frustrated about a few examples where people think they know something because of their job title or because they are in the same building and perform managerial duties with the people who actually do the freaking work.
It's a good video and it did a good job at spicing me up. Thank you.

11:24 5 years ago the government was paying an AEMT in Douglas County Ga, 12-14/ hour. It looks like it has gone up considerably since then, but they still don’t get overtime until after 50 hours per week. Which would be ILLEGAL if it was anyone other than the government doing it. Gotta love the government making laws that only the citizens have to follow.

4:30 anyone who worked in yeltsin’s administration should not be taken at face value. The dissolution of the soviet union was done completely undemocratically and against the wills of the average person. People like him profiteered from its destruction, and destroyed the lively hoods of soviet citizens. Additionally, it’s worth pointing out that anyone from a country where english is not somewhat commonly spoken who is talking about politics in fluent english should be treated with suspicion, as they often represent the most well off parts of said society.

    • @AtomicArtumas
      @AtomicArtumas ปีที่แล้ว

...based off of all of my experiences with russians (pre-ukraine invasion, obviously) I can very much say that English definitely is pretty commonly spoken there. Like, they even speak it in a lot of media. It's kind of similar to like, English in a lot of European countries or Japan - It's not necessarily 100% of the population by any stretch, but odds are you wouldn't struggle at all to find someone that could understand you if you visited the country. (also similar to spanish in california and other such regional bilingual communities.)
I definitely wouldn't just say it's only the well off. You... usually don't see millionaires in erotic movies, for example.

For those who don't know since I heard the question mark in Robin's voice, the term comorbid means a person suffering with more than disorder simultaneously. So in the context of psychology it means a person is suffering from multiple mental disorders, a simple example I can remember is anxiety being comorbid with depression.

This is why I try not to correct people on things I don't have personal experience on. Like at about 17:59 the reply mentions people weighing in on stuff they don't know about (paraphrasing), I normally end up just trying to learn from it, though I try not to correct people using the information because misunderstandings happen, and if I don't use it everyday it tends to get foggy.

I now regret not trying harder to correct people who are about to do dangerous things, etc. Not so much grandstanding on social media, but because I can't always quote my references off the top of my head and am not really an expert in anything, I tend to keep my mouth shut and regret it when things go south because of it.

@@Vinemaple I can sorta get that too, but I rarely come across stuff where someone's doing something stupid or dangerous unless it's a recording, so that didn't cross my mind with the original comment. Now, I’m no professional, but if this isn’t how addiction work, could someone please tell me? I’ve always thought the usage of drugs or other actions that create dopamine is what causes addiction. You begin to do that action over and over as you crave the dopamine it releases for you. If that’s not how addiction works, then I guess I’ve been lied to my whole life (?)

I had the reverse happen. I was commenting in a Linkin Park group on Facebook and someone had posted an old demo of theirs from back when they were called Xero. The demo was from 1996.
Someone commended that the demo couldn't possibly be from 1996. I asked him why.
He said "Because I was in a band with Chester until 1998."
I looked at his username. He was Sean Dowdell. Of the bands "Sean Dowdell and His Friends" and "Grey Daze", whose lead singer was Chester Bennington.
I said "This demo is from before Chester joined the band. The singer on this track is Mark Wakefield, Linkin Park's original lead singer back when they were called Xero."
    He was like "Oh, okay"
