When I worked at a casino, a cook passed out, and they had to call an ambulance. The manager fired the cook as he was being loaded into the ambulance. They had to rehire him later, lol.

@NTF Operative oh it was very illegal. However, he didn't go for the lawsuit because he had a pill addiction. Probably weed as well. I worked with him for a few months when he got hired back. “We can replace you.” Almost word for word what one manager told us in a meeting. I believe his exact words were, “I can hire anyone off the street to do your jobs.” Which, yeah, we’re not something that needed formal training like welding or being a doctor, but not the motivator he thought it was. The issue? One person was accidentally putting in something wrong. It didn’t effect anything but the system and was easily fixed. But nope. Our managers picked calling 20-30 people worthless instead

I used to work at Denny's, never missed a day. One day I was full on projectile vomiting and tried to call in. They said *I* needed to find my replacement, couldn't get anyone, made me come in. I didn't have a car so I took the bus (This was back in the early 00's and I even masked then when I was sick). I started at Midnight and last bus route was at 10:30, got there an hour early. Spent 45 minutes projectile vomiting in the parking lot since I was asked to go outside due to the noise I was making when I was throwing up in the bathroom. Had numerous people walk past me while I *WAS IN FULL UNIFORM* vomiting uncontrollably. Manager came out and said I could go home for the night, no need to a replacement. Now I had to spend money on a cab back. Assholes.

Last time I left work for more than 2 weeks, it was only a few days before my coworkers were sending me texts and emails with attached photos and videos asking me what they should do to handle the situation. A lot of things were kept in locked enclosures until I returned.
I should've asked for a raise or I'd extend my leave.
Also, if anyone under me comes in sick, I will pay them to go home. I don't want them breathing on everyone and having half the staff calling in sick the next week. Basic human empathy aside, it's a horrible idea to let your staff come in sick.

I cleaned for this entitled snob every week that wanted everything pristine while her house was already clean af because she cleaned it herself too, and then on the other hand there was this woman who just had cancer treatment and could barely walk and she didn't have a cleaner for weeks her house was a mess and I felt so sorry for her I stayed longer just to clean more. That company is now out of business because they fired a whole bunch of people. I quit before that because I started school again but damn... my delivery boy job "let me go" a month ago. I've applied at 6-8 places (in person) but i've gotten closure at only 2 restaurants- both were a "no". one seemed to not be hiring and the other sounded desperate for positions- i believe the latter declined as i have no references, and i could tell the manager didn't like my "how'd you hear about us?" response. I was mailed a comic sans font rejection offering a dine in coupon for a personal pizza. at least they spelled my name right... i'm 29, and have worked at nothing but restaurants for the past 8 years...

The demand for workers should be so high and the recruitment process should be so costly today that employers realistically couldn't afford to even try screwing over new recruits. The problem is that there are still too many gullible workers out there who will either take their employers' words for granted or just feel like they have no choice but to suffer corporate slavery even if they end up with a personal net loss every day. All coupled with a a fear or unwillingness to unionize.
Corporations should never have become the implied rule-makers of society. If they want the labor we can offer, *they* have to be the ones adhering to *our* conditions before they can demand anything from us. If they don't care to plan and budget around what their skilled and competent employees expect from them, then they don't get to have a business.
