I just realized another way you can pick up on the Prospector’s true nature before the twist. He’s the only character who doesn’t act like his Woody’s Roundup counterpart. In the show, he’s clearly the comic relief idiot of the group, but the toy acts more like a wise old grandfather before the twist
Amazing point! It also makes sense given how he is treated. Before being in storage with the rest of Al’s collection, he was forced to spend his life in a box on a dime store shelf. In contrast, Woody was treated like a leader, whom Andy’s other toys(besides Mr. Potato Head) always looked up to! (Or at least they did before Woody knocked Buzz out the window.) Unlike Stinky Pete's contrast that you mentioned, we can tell that in Woody's Roundup, Woody is a kind sheriff who people seek for help or advice, just like in Andy's room!
This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. It expanded the world and character relations, they gave us a great soundtrack by Randy Newman (I know he isn’t the best composer for movies like James and the Giant Peach), and most importantly they gave us two of the most sad moments in the movie industry: Jessie’s Backstory and the fact that this was possibly Jim Barney’s last role before he died of cancer. It just dawned on me that the dog is incredibly smart around the toys but seems clueless to the humans. Woody and Buster do an entire routine together, but then Andy tries something similar and Buster's like "Nah, I'll just walk away." I love that world detail.
Let’s all just remember that this is the movie that was brutal for Pixar to make because the original movie was just about complete but the entire project was accidentally deleted so they had to rebuild the entire movie from scratch
Less like rebuild the movie from scratch and more like... a pregnant worker who had a backup since she was working from home had to transport her files to the studio. If I'm not mistaken, she brought what she'd worked on and maybe they managed to continue work from there at the last legs of development, meaning if that hadn't happened, the whole sequel would probably be scrapped (since, you know, Disney has quite the history with bad sequels).
There’s a fourth? I never knew it happened, I only thought there was Toy story 1-3, but I’m sure directors would NEVER add any new plot devices of characters and shatter the trio’s characters in a matter of seconds. After all, there’s only 3 toy story films
My genuine response to 11:30, Wanna bet? When I was like 16, maybe 17, I had a nightmare about giant rottweiler-sized bees (Cause I had a fear of insects) and I vividly remember bolting up in my bed in terror and feeling my surroundings to regain my composuer. It was like Woody in this film minus the scream. So no, the "Character springs up after a nightmare" thing is not just a writing trope, it's a real phenomen that happens to some people.
I would put that opening scene at the beginning of the game. If it's the end then the ending is already spoiled. We could go with Buzz having finally been cleared to infiltrate Zurg's fortress and take him down, but it turns out Zurg was ready and he traps you. If you lose the fight, you fall off the edge of the platform. If you win, it turns out you were fighting a robot and the real Zurg knocks you off the edge from behind. After that you escape and the real game begins.
Fun fact: originally when utility belt buzz left, he would have given his belt to our buzz and buzz would have kept it as his new design at the end of the film. My guess they didn’t want to go with a drastic design change so they just let utility belt buzz keep it.
The thing about stories is that the situations that they portray are mostly exceptional out of ordinary, and thats why it can lead to wrong impressions about reality. In Fiction, the weird is norm, and normal is weird.
I really enjoy hearing your commentaries on Pixar films! If you are willing, can you comment on the Incredibles, Ratatouille, Inside Out, Brave, and Up? If so, that would be awesome! Your passion and meticulous knowledge of the lore of Toy Story are amazing!
Genius filmmaking. I love this film to death, idk if I like it more than 3 but damn is it close. I feel like there is so much here to love from a screenwriting perspective it’s so well done
This is one of my favorite movies of all time! I hope they’ll one day rerelease it in a theatre near me so I can experience the whole airport scene on the big screen. Also, if the challenge to “see if there is a piece of Toy Story info GM13 doesn’t know” is still on, I would like to point out how the calendar in Andy’s room shows when the movie takes place. 5:55 if you want to see for yourself. A little detail I noticed, that shows all the heart that the animators put in to this movie.
I'm hoping they re-release all the movies in theaters when TS5 comes out just like they did for the first 2 when 3 was coming out, and the first 3 when 4 was coming out. Make it one big Toy Story marathon theatrical event; that'd be like Christmas coming early for me
As I grow older, I'm starting to get how a movie is good or not; that being if you keep your brain active through a movie and still manage to enjoy it. As a kid, I watched Toy Story 2 a whole bunch of times since I had it on DVD. I remember it fondly, of course, but not in the way I see it after this review; it's been a long time since I watched the movie and the memories were just of me having fun with the characters because of their fun adventure, added a pinch of adult me looking back to see a really well delivered theme. Now, I'm also noticing how the characters are well developed, how the plot is tight and still very enjoyable, the multiple comebacks, setups and payoffs, the subtlety and delivery of lines, the small details in scenes (even something as stupid as Cheetos scattered around a slob's house)... my brain is told time and time again to get into breakneck pace and unpack the contents of the movie. It feels... refreshing. Feels like the movie got BETTER now, it aged like fine wine! Thx for the watch along. It was extremely fun and made me notice why I should pay these old Pixar movies even more respect now as a young adult than as a kid.
I was born in the 90s and I have several record players in my room (only one of which is actually a vintage one). 6:35 I feel like the reason buzz was dumb in Toy Story 4 was because of what happened in ts3 Got reset and his mind erased and then a tv falls on him which restores his memory The real reason why he’s dumb is because the writers thought it was funny
People have said that before, but it doesn’t work as an excuse because Buzz was still clearly intelligent and resourceful at the dump in Toy Story 3, as well as during the short films and TV specials, all of which take place after the TV falls on him.
1:00:06 im 5 months late here, but lemme explain the cargo hold actually already isnt supposed to be pressurized anyway. ironically, y'all said it wouldn't be safe depressurized, but actually, the reason its not pressurized is mostly for safety reasons (cargo fires have brought down many planes before. but if theres no oxygen in the hold, then theres no fire). anyone more knowledgeable, please correct me if im mistaken and/or got something wrong
Why are these entertaining to watch. Algorithmically they shouldn’t be. They should have no views and low retention. Yet I watch them months after they are uploaded 😅😂❤
The reason they changed the American flag to the spinning globe for all the other countries is because they didn't think that using an American Flag for that speech would work with other countries, and they thought it would be to hard to redo the scene with each countries flag and Anthem, so they just thought the globe would be easier
4:30 dragon ball is not slow paced. It is just like my hero academia. They both have fast action and both start of slow, you could say db starts of super fast as we’re already adventuring on episode 2 .

25:47 it does make sense because it wouldn’t have the same impact on anyone who isn’t from US. It has an impact on me because I’m from the US but obviously someone outside of America wouldn’t feel so it makes that they replaced it with the globe so it would have the same impact on them as it was originally supposed to.
What I mean by “it doesn’t make much sense” is that to my knowledge, TV stations around the world didn’t sign off for the day with a globe spinning in the background. Whereas the American flag was actually used to sign off TV broadcasts every day in the US. When I say that makes sense, I am referring to the fact that it’s based on something that actually happens in the real world.
