Hi Cathy, absolutely agree with you. I'm also proud to reply " I'm 76", when asked my age. I'm blessed with good health, good movement & laughter. Love & Light to everyone.
I am 72 years old, have gray hair, a lumpy body, a few wrinkle, move slow, and fart a lot, all of the characteristics younger people see as senior, their polite word for "old." Well, ok. The way I look at it, they'll get here someday and then they can have the experience of having those of lesser age label them "senior." Meanwhile, I'm all for doing this exercise as well as others, although I don't consider any one of them as the most important. The most important activity is for "seniors" to get up and DO things. Otherwise, move into a retirement home and stay out of the way. Happy moving, folks.

I suggest varying the arm position during the squat. If you put your arms back while squatting, they serve as a bit of a counterweight so everything is not forward with legs and hips lifting and holding it all. And with arms back, you'll be doing a variation of the chest expansion/back contraction. But you'll also feel it in the back of the arms, that is rear delts and triceps. Again, this 'arms as counterweight' is not to replace the central exercise, but merely provides alternatives for weight placement or positioning. I find it particularly beneficial to begin with, before moving arms forward over the thighs.

A little addition to good info- the "invisible chair" is not squatting. When your hamstrings are pressed down on your calves, you are squatting. Squatting to empty the bowels is a mechanism for keeping the lower back healthy by stretching it for the length of time it takes to crap on the ground, but we don't do that, and so we miss out. To regain the real squat, with real benefits (which are found in the bottom half of the movement), one must regain Achilles and ankle mobility, the worst impediment to squatting. Every morning, grab the bathroom counter and stretch each calf, then grab the sink and lower yourself into a squat as deep as you can, and work up to a minute, then longer and longer until you can stay in a squat as a resting position for an hour if you wish (or playing with your grandchildren). Sink squats are the way back. Sink squats are easy to remember to do and don't take much time. I'm 65. I also used this method to regain full range of motion in my knee after an altercation with a Prius (My bike was as twisted as my leg.) The foundation of fitness longevity is joint and spine care.
great advice..... I marvel at images and videos of people from other cultures where they are often seen in that total squat position. Thank you John Bullard
ROTFLOL!!! You are a senior little brother. The key is to give a new meaning to the term senior citizen. As to the calf raise, it is important because so many lose ankle and foot strength and then the balance goes and so on. Excellent demo of the combo squat!!! Listen to the Doc everyone. Use it or lose it.

Thank you so much for showing us a better way to do squats! I am 54 years old and I have arthritis in my knees. Although switching to a plant based diet alleviated a lot of the pain, it still hurts to do squats. As soon as I tried this exercise I felt ZERO pain. Thank you so much! God bless everyone reading this and good luck on your health journey.😊
Great thanks. Yoga is also good. I have 84 year olds in my class. Lots of stretching. But also I am 78 😀. I also teach some qigong at the same time….. keep on moving But carefully 😀🌈💜
I am 58(F)and in the best shape of my life. I have always been into fitness being a personal trainer for 15 years and then I got really sick. I am back into it and am so happy!! I have now added roller skating. So much fun. I will be super active forever!
Wonderful... I take a Chi Kung (apols if I've spelt that incorrectly!) class once a week and I'll now include this lovely stretchy move, thankyou again.
Thank you so much. I am 66 years old and I do 20 squats several times a week. I will add the moves from video to my routine. I'm looking forward to more of your videos.
I did planks, calf raises. squats, and pushups against the counter until I felt better, stronger and had better balance. Then I quit. I always seem to quit when something works for me. So I started again and have added walking. Here is to NOT quitting when it works and to making it a life long habit. btw, the calf raises I do are on stairs so that I can drop my heels also.
Yes I agree I lost that sensory feeling in my feet when I had a stroke and no one told me this would happen I felt like I was learning to walk for the first time and as I started to walk over different surfaces I found that I felt like I was going to fall. And I did over the months of recuperation.i had to keep telling myself quietly no you're not going to fall especially important when I was walking up and down stairs. Yes I did numerous exercises to improve walking leg strength. Sitting in chairs. I didn't want to lose the strength I have left. I want to increase my strength. In my legs feet and core strength because I found out personally I needed core strength to help me sit in the car and get out.
I'm a senior, 63 years old, and have begun incorporating the above suggested moves into my daily exercises. An additional move I find that helps relax and stretch out my lower back is the "resting squat".
Fabulous. I used to do these 3 exercises separately but will now combine into 1 movement as daily routine. Thank you from a 70 yo female 😊 Adding in the calf raise really challenges the balance, so all the more reason to combine them.
I’m an 85 year old senior. Been walking and exercising all my life. I make sure I get 8000 steps per day. Weather permitting I’m outside otherwise I go to the gym. I do classes, weights, treadmill etc. I played 9 holes of golf 3x a week until I had my hip replaced. This year, lost interest in the golf. I read a book a week, do mind/memory games daily. Eat green and try to keep a positive mindset.
These are great! I’m 63 & getting back to moving more. I’ve been doing calf raises but like you said, my bad knees hurt when I squat. They feel like they’re blowing out. (Surgery in 1996) I’m going to try this tonight! (I tore my rotator cuff 10 years ago and have had issues since too) I think this will help me tremendously! Thank you!
Thrns out I get injuries so easily it’s irritsting! My rheumatologist told me I can’t do yoga. I guess I can’t do a lot of things. I have lupus psoriatic arthritis osteoarthritis I was just gardening and just stretch down to the ground after I was arranging rocks and pulling weeds. I think I did too much in one day so my advice to anybody watching this take it easy don’t try to go too fast or do too much when you get started go in slowly and easily cause if you haven’t been getting out of the chair like my 89-year-old mother, she almost never gets out of the chair and then when she does get up, she overdo it. Her back really hurts her as much as you wanna get into shape and feel strong. Take it easy gradually build up.

Amazing! thank you so much. No one has ever explained how to squat the way you did. I just figured I was incapable of squatting until you mentioned that little bit about bending in your video.
It also keeps your back strong. I do it by adding a full arm swoop: squat with my arms out straight. As I come up I raise my arms and circle them around my head and back to my sides. Cures sciatica pain in seconds.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I do 2 or three sets of 10 squats every morning - in the shower. I am going to add the toe lifts and the arm stretches. I'm 87 by the way.
@Adam J. Story, DC I thought it was funny that you said calf raises is "not the most important exercise for seniors... It's not calf raises..." and then you proceed to show step one as calf raises. haha. The 3 movement exercise you combined looks pretty good. In Kung fu we call it Ma Bo or horse riding stance. The tail is tucked under, knees or legs wide apart, feet pointing forward, the bum never sticks out. Think waist of a bear, back of a tiger. You also never sit lower than knee height., arms stretched out with all fingers and thumbtucked in tightly except for the forefinger that points upwards. A very powerful stance or exercise if done correctly.

and the Brugger helped her avoid kephosis, which is a major battle that Seniors need to be made aware of
I have arthritis. It is bad in my hip joints. I have been excersizeing in the pool for a year. I am now adding floor work. I am feeling much better and am mobile again. I will add this to my routine. Thanks.

I'm 65. I also used this method to regain full range of motion in my knee after an altercation with a Prius (My bike was as twisted as my leg.)
The foundation of fitness longevity is joint and spine care.
@JohnBullard Ta muchly - I’ll give that a go!
Very good practical and effective method
Thank you
great advice.....
I am 75 and am trying to get back into shape. So, at this stage every little bit helps.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I APRECIATED YOUR EXPLANATION ON THIS AWSOME AND BENEFICIAL EXERCISES.!!!
I’m a 70yrs old I SUFFER FRON SCIATICA. I have done this exercises with out any technique… thank you again🙏
You are funny! We go from baby, toddler, youngster, teen ager, etc etc, adult....to Seniors and Older. It is what it is😂 At over 60 I would prefer to be called Honey or sweetheart instead of Senior😂
Thank you, great exercises for the Sweethearts!
Thanks for sharing!!
Holy hell, this is fantastic. I’m 46 and follow tons of trainers on TH-cam, and this is by far the best exercise video I’ve ever seen. Never knew about Bruger’s move. Combining all 3 was magical THANK YOU! Sending to my mom now ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
That's right, Adam. Rage, rage against the dying light of youth.
Hi, I'm 87 young. I love watching your videos. I try to do those exercises as much as I can also I try deep breathing that you recommend in a different video for lowering high blood pressue. Thank you for precious information. ARIGATOU from Tokyo, JAPAN.
That's the olde 'Rise from the toilet without holding on to the countertop' exercise!
Indeed. Indeed.
@@williamkoenig1586 Can do it but not well.
Love that you cared about the stone. I did earth science and care too! Will try exercise.
A squat DOESNT have to be PERFECT. Just get to the floor and stand up. Do it 50 times a day, every day. That would also help.
Thank you, needed this one today, almost 70.
Great thanks. Yoga is also good. I have 84 year olds in my class. Lots of stretching. But also I am 78 😀. I also teach some qigong at the same time….. keep on moving But carefully 😀🌈💜
Thanks for sharing!!
Every time I stretch my hamstrings or piriformis or calves, I have pain and numbness. I think stretching is not good for everyone.
I really liked your way of speaking: no offense to the birds and no offense to the stone! For some reason
I remembered the great poet: Robert frost!
I’m not old, but I do this exercise anyway. ♥️
Smart!
Thanks for the big tip! I'm 54 and working on my health, but I'm grateful for the health I have. Thanks again! Wonderful video.
Fabulous. I used to do these 3 exercises separately but will now combine into 1 movement as daily routine. Thank you from a 70 yo female 😊 Adding in the calf raise really challenges the balance, so all the more reason to combine them.
You're so welcome!
Thanks for doing this video. We are "pre-senior".
"Feeding three birds with one hand"!😊
@@vegansydmost1345 Thank you 😊
I’m an 85 year old senior.
Keep it up
These are great! Thank you!
I'm 64, Thank you frm Malaysia.
❤🎉😊 I'm pushing 80 and found your 3 in 1 perfect I watch other videos for exercises but found your the best, I've tried it and can do them,I'll do them daily from now on. I'll be watching all your videos, thanks
😂I was blocked from the 7:42 Magnesium breakthrough link… I’m not tech savy enough to know why…I’m 70 which is not old… I don’t know what old feels like…I take care of my body and my mind and I don’t do stupid things… I really like your channel, your knowledge, your truth, your uncommon sense. I look forward to your always informative videos. So I’m a Canada guy and I do use a VPN. Maybe that’s the blocking issue? I unno. Anyway Doc Story you’re amongst the best.
@@darb3334 thanks. I have no idea why either.
You're very good on camera. You should do segments on your local TV station if they have a morning show. I have been practicing martial arts for 51 years (I'm 71) and I plan to incorporate these movements into my daily activities.
I’m down with you. We’re not citizens just older generation. Thanks for the time and energy put in the channel..
Thank you for this exercise combination! I will do this along with walking, yoga, rebounding, sixties dancing ( and other dancing), and swimming ! I love to move!
I’m seeing your video for the first time. Thanks for sharing these exercises, which I just did with you. I think I will practice them.
There are at least five routines from the anciennt traditions I have used to heal the knees. All you've presented is contained in them, and so much more.
i really like this guy, i'm 31 but still feel 21.
Amazing! thank you so much. No one has ever explained how to squat the way you did. I just figured I was incapable of squatting until you mentioned that little bit about bending in your video.
THIS IS. GOOD 4 ME . A CHANGE IN MY BODY AFTER A PERIOD OF 10 mnts. THANKS DOC.
Thanks for sharing!!
@Adam J. Story, DC I thought it was funny that you said calf raises is "not the most important exercise for seniors... It's not calf raises..." and then you proceed to show step one as calf raises. haha. The 3 movement exercise you combined looks pretty good. I will try to remember this for my senior friends. 🙂Nice video.
God blessings be with you always god bless 🙏🙏🙏
Well, dear fellow "senior Citizen", I could not agree more -- on both fronts🙂🙂
I’m wondering why this 2 yr old video is at the top of my feed today …I can do all these exercises easily -I do these exercises regularly. If you don’t use it you lose it! Thanks! ❤
Loved 3 in 1!!! I just turned 78 and I'm in fairly good shape for my age, but I definitely need to strengthen my muscles -- especially hips and back. The calf exercise is good for neuropathy in my feet as well.
I AM ULTIMATE HEALTH 🙏🏾💚😇 Your video just "popped up " for me😅This is my 1st time seeing or hearing you😊I LOVE YOUR ENERGY and your approach. I have subscribed 🎉🙌🏾🎊💯‼️👍🏽
My lower leg, ankle and foot weakness are from lower back related foot drop and leg weakness. Then surgery. Squating is very painful with bad knees.
I'm 74 and do these exercises every day plus others and walk every day, hail, rain wind or shine. Walking is the key. 💪
Thanks, you so right about the exercise it helps … I have been doing them last few months, and they work 🙏🙏
83 and I can do this. I like combining squat with calf raises and the scapular move.
I'm 63. Stop doing P90X 8 years ago. Cycling, yoga, meditation. These exercises are good for me now however I'm not accepting the senior title until I'm 70.
Thank you for caring and sharing 🌞
Thanks for sharing!

Im 75 and was already doing some of this everyday after biking to the beach! I hold the squat a few seconds and now wiil do the calf lifts! Good info! Never give up on yourself! 53 yrs in the womens running circle; and still running! Love exercising!
Great job!
Thank you for the tips, I do the squats but not enough. I will for sure incorporate the other moves.
Thanks for your sagged and teaching your knowledge, I am a Senior over 70 but I want to be stronger,my knees and legs are weak ...I will appreciate all your help...God blesses you...❤
You can do it!
You are so right with the squat version and sticking out the butt. I had Piriformis syndrome/sciatica and after a while learned that it didn’t hurt so much doing this to bend down. It is slowly improving after 3+ months so I shall now be doing your recommended squat sequence too. Thank you!
My man here has some good refreshing humor in his presentation
