I'm 71 and I can do 40 full push-ups with good form in a single set despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's almost five years ago. If I can do it, anyone can do it -- all you have to do is stick with it and keep progressing. Having some muscle and strength is critical to avoiding injury as we age. It's taken me five years to get to this point but it is attainable if you put in the effort and remain consistent.
I also do dips and pull-ups/chin-ups to improve upper body strength. I only spend 10 minutes exercising on three days of the week but it makes an enormous difference in reducing frailty and increasing robustness.

@@xjet Men have much greater upper body strength. Are you male? I am a woman & never been able to do full push ups lots of ankle surgeries as a child. But since c0v1d I have not been able to do much exercise without major should pain. I was in great shape at 55- using small weights & floor exercises 5x per wk. If you can do that many push-ups - may I suggest a pull-up bar (if you aren't already using one). I reached a plateau when I got to two sets of 25 and wasn't progressing. Got me a pull-up bar - went from 1 half-pull up to 5 easy ones in about a month - progress got a major boost from that!

Good point. I'm 71 and a couple years ago found out I couldn't get up off the floor from a sitting position. I had to bring myself back to a simple fitness program - I use the 5bx, but of course there are many. I still have to force myself to start, every time, but I also now lift weights using the basic Stronglifts program. I won't lie, it is a thing I force myself to, every damn time. If I don't, my muscles waste and old problems from a life working at construction come back. I only recently overcame a rotor cuff injury. I know I can't stop it, but maybe I can slow down the slide. I do about a dozen push-ups, always sort of favoring one shoulder. Not the best, but it gets it done...the hardest thing is to shut up my mind and just do.

So much is out there for the young and fit, (been there, lost it - life happens 🙄).
    Getting it back is HARD.
Too many of us go too hard, get disappointed and give up.
    I really love your stuff🤗.
A month ago ... couldn't do a single pushup - had to do your 'start easy' way.
I still can't do a single pushup😂...(I'll get there), but i can do more of the easy versions.
But what i REALLY notice is - i feel 'more in my body' - i feel i fit it better. I remember this feeling. I never even noticed when i lost it🤷‍♀️
My balance is better, coordination, movement - all starting to 'flow', rather than be effort.
Thank you for doing videos such as this - some of us lost mojo years ago....and need a safe and doable routine that won't damage us or make us feel ashamed and weak compared to what we once were.
Again.... love your stuff. The humor helps too🤗
All feel good stuff, keep at it. ✌️☺️

I am 78 and have been strong until the past year. I have had several surgeries: bilateral knee replacements, right shoulder, lumbar surgery/ fusion. I want and need upper body strength (and lower; however, I feel that I have limitations with my knees as far as getting on the floor, even if I put a cushion under my knees… But I would like that to change if possible.
Your podcast is wonderful for seniors because you take sections of the body first and make sure that I understand how to do the exercises and they’re not difficult in the beginning so I can perfect my position.

Nom nom😂. And yes, I would love more videos for targeted weight training for seniors. At 57 I’m not that old, but I had long Covid this year and lost a lot of muscle mass and energy. I think this would be a great way to get back on track. Plus, it would be fun to have some program I could do with my mom.

If you build it, they will come. Love your channel. I have dumbbells that are wrapped in some kind of cushy material, really helps with grip; some are just metal, and you may want to use padded gloves with them. Have an awesome week.

Hello, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos! I had a hip labral tear that after 2 years of pain, I had surgery for. He ended up doing more than a repair. Did a osteocondroplasty and capsule repair as well. There’s such an imbalance between the right and left sides though. I’ve gone to multiple physical therapists. Now I’m watching a lot of your videos. I think it is helping. Hopefully I can get both sides even and strong

4:10 Push up with arms close to the torso and palms in mid-thoracic level is more difficult than when the upper arms are spread out sideways at shoulder level, as this recruits the pectorals as well as the triceps.

I can do full push-ups, at least 3 sets of ten, used to be able to anyway, but I started having back issues, ended up diagnosed with very advanced osteoporosis, and apparently some joint laxity. i also have several confirmed vertebral fractures with 3 inches of height loss. Last time I tried push ups, something popped in my right shoulder blade area. No lasting harm but just, dang, osteoporosis throws all bets to the wind. (I was 61 at diagnosis, 63 now, seem to always be nursing an injury now, but I'm still trying. Doing counter pushups, dead hang and triceps dips daily. Was doing Farmer's carry, will get back to it when my lower back (slipped disc?) heals up. Aging is JUST grand. )
